Right on glad to help this week I am remodeling a kitchen repainting the cabinets. I need to sand all the doors and I’ll literally just run them through the jet 1632 on a 220. It will save me hours of hand sanding I love this thing. thanks for watching and happy Woodworking to you.
Thank you for this video. i've been contemplating getting a drum sander for over a year now and I just started making cutting boards, so I think it is time for my Jet purchase.
Just ordered mine today, your review is why I chose this sander. I was looking at this one and was trying to get good info, love the video very informative and to the point. I'm in Texas too, us Texans have to stick together.
That makes me so stoked. It is one of my favorite tools in the shop and save so much time. Let me know if you have any questions. I’ve had mine for a year and a half and I love it. I broke it twice. I had to fix it, so that’s good because I push the room too far, thanks for watching the videos. Man means a lot. Happy Woodworking to you. What part of Texas are you in?
Stoner great Review, I bought the JET 22/44 Drum Sander last week mainly for end grain cutting boards but now run everything thru it and my planer (Mr. Snipe) is now the odd man out. You were spot on on the time savings, saves me hours trying to sand out the planer snipe on the side grain boards and lots and lots of time using the random orbital sander on my end grain boards. It just me and it's overkill but I sand all of my cutting boards to 1000 grit to get a glass smooth finish and silky feel once their oiled. Great review
Very informative and helpful review 👍 Can't thank you enough for all your hard work my friend! You taking the time to answer comments definitely helped me out as well. Excellent review 👏
Wow thanks for the comment I was looking for a video like this wen I was going to buy one and couldn’t really find one so I hope it helps it is my favorite tool in the shop👍
I've used a Performax 16-32 for the past 14 years; this model of the Jet looks remarkably similar. I agree with your review; the accuracy and speed at which you can sand perfectly is amazing.
Very helpful for a woman that doesn't know much about machines. I'm using a Jet 10/20 right now but it wants to shut down on its own. The Smart Sander is why I was looking at the 16/32 option. Thanks for confirming this for me as the tool of choice. Ann
Holy cow I am so sorry I have done everything went into my UA-cam settings to make sure it was downloadable shareable savable I’m so sorry for your unfortunate loss but congratulations on your 1632 jet sander. I think you’re awesome.
If you’re having a bunch of snipe, I think you should back it off just a little bit. I haven’t had any issues with mine once I started taking less off at a time. Good luck and happy Woodworking. Thanks for the comment.
Great video! This machine is notorious for some frustrating snipe, primarily the out-feed tension roller being the culprit. Did you find any problem here? If so, did you successfully adjust it out? I feel like the tension screws in the out-feed need to be loosened to the point of almost ready to come out.
I had some issues with Snipe at first, but I was taking too much off in each pass. I also count for snipe and everything I built. Thanks for watching and happy when working to you.
Oh thanks for the great comment. I don’t seem to have a snipe issue with mine. I do not take have you passes thanks for watching and happy Woodworking too
I have the same machine for a few years now I love it the only issue I have had with it is after a few passes the paper would come off I now put duct on the end of the paper problem solved great video
After making cutting boards, molding and endless table tops I finally decided there has to be an easier way than my hand planes. Looking at the 16-32 now. I have the Rockler 650 cfm wall mount unit….enough for this tool?
Yes 650 CFM‘s will work just fine as long as the orange port. This has changed my shop flow and took all the hard sanding out. I run mine with 120 then finish at 2:20 and then just hand sand break that is definitely one of the best things I ever bought. Thanks for watching. Happy Woodworking.
Great video! Have you figured out how to keep the tracking straight on the conveyor belt? I notice yours rides all the way to the left like most peoples. Adjusting the bolts lasts about two passes and it goes back to the left.
Hi Stoner, thanks for the excellent video. You say you make butcher block counter tops. I have some to make useing Para/Rubber wood. It comes in sheets of 2400 x 1200 x 20 mm all finger jointed like a butcher block. But I need the tops to be 4 mtr x 60cm so I will be cutting them into 4.2mm strips for the thickness & glueing them up to get the length. My question is if you could only have one machine, what would it be, a planer/thicknesser or a Drum Sander? Thanks again for the video
What a cool project I need to know how it goes👍 too answer your question I got my planner first the Sanders is a luxury takes all the hard work out of sanding, but you can do with an orbital sander or even a hand sander so planer for sure that is for the comment it means so much when people engage for real thank you happy woodworking
Great video! We got one in our shop to try and speed up sanding 8ft oak planks to be used as trim pieces. Couldn't seem to get the hang of it, the boards kept getting ruined with wavy, uneven sanding marks. Even tried setting it up with stand rollers on each side to mitigate any potential "bounce" in the board and the issue still seemed to be there. Did you run into this at all? Any tips? Thanks!
You’re going to fast and you’re trying to take too much on you slow down the process you won’t have those issues if you bought at noon that should have the bearing and roller should be straight as an arrow but it used you might have to readjust the rolling bearings thanks for watching. Happy Woodworking.
Yes, the smallest that I’ve gone is 3/8by 3/8 can go down to quarter inch handles it really well and yeah I change the paper from 8o 120 all the way up to 220 grit sand paper thanks for watching. Happy Woodworking to you.
@@ep.elevated i’m 100% positive you can but I don’t know why you want to stand that high of a grit that’s more like a polish after 320 any woodgrains is to smooth to accept a stain or even a sealer? What kind of project are you working on?
Bravo!! Fun well done video...informational and fun...I'm wrestliing with dust collection right now. I have the dust right 1250...my question for you, is are you using 4' pvc duct work and how effective is it? thank you for your time and I appreciate the effort you put into this video...
Yes, I am using 4 inch pipe. I have a whole dust collection video on the channel that should answer all your questions and I do have the 1250 CFM Dustry as well thanks for watching a lot. Happy Woodworking.
Stoner - great review. I too am at the "wish list" tool growth in my shop. Glad you were stoked about the 16/32 over the 18/36. Saves a few hundo. Also, I'm interested in the dust rite upstairs in your attic. I was considering that in mine, but am wondering how you empty bags or bins. - Scott
Sweet man thanks for the nice comment. I will make a video about it for you this weekend. I’ll put it out sometime next week and show you how easy it is and what I do with it. Hell yeah happy Woodworking.
hi, im in south texas starting my own wood shop/ hobby shop.... question. does the way the sander hangs out there with no support on the outside cause it to sag and sand uneven?
No I have the extension tables I only put them on when I need them because it take a little more space in my small shop when I’m standing on something under 3 feet I don’t put them on and they don’t sag thanks for the comment what part of TX are u in
Great video, I currently only have a 6hp rigid shop vac and not plans or money to get an upgraded dust collector. Are you say without propped dust collection would this sander just not work effectively not being able to remove all the dust?
Yes I tried it with all my shop backs and when you go down to two or 2 1/2 inch poured down to a four with a hose it’s too long to really suck any of the fine dust up. It worked a little bit but it kicked most of the dust back onto the piece into the rollers which caused damage to the piece. I was working on, so you really need to have a 4 inch dust collection system to run a sander like this effectively thanks for the comment means a lot. I love my sander though.
Thanks for your great video. I have been reviewing drum sanders and after your video decided on the Jet 2244. Am glad to see you with casters. I am planning the 2” casters, or maybe I should do 3”? TV
I couldn’t imagine mine not having casters. It’s so awesome to move around do longer stuff. The 2244 is awesome. I’m so jealous. Happy Woodworking to you and thanks for watching. 2 inch or 3 inch it doesn’t really matter. Just whatever your preference for height is.
I make cutting boards and dining tables out of black walnut and resin primarily. I have a grizzly that someone recommended for me but it will not do the job. I heard that the jet is the way to go. Do you think this would handle it?
I am considering this machine and I want to mount it (without the stand) under my workbench on a slide out. Can you give me the measurements (exact footprint width, height, and depth).
Yes I will send you that plies I will make a short about the measurements and send you the link. Thanks for watching. I hope you buy this. It’s freaking awesome.
I am having a terrible issue with snipe on mine, both front and back end. I have adjusted the screws for the rollers tighter ( that didn't work!) And so loose the screws almost come out and still I get snipe for about 2 inches on either end. Are you having the same issue or what did you do to fix it?
I had the same issues when I first got mine, and I was taking too much off in each past try to back it off a little bit, and the snipe will be reduced also, whenever you can send pieces back to back to remove snake like you were on your planner do you have the extension tables if that will helps as well
My price range was right around $1500 at the top and plus I wanted the extension tables. I looked at this jet 1632 and the super Max 1632. It was during Covid so to get either of them shipped shipped to my house was like eight weeks and there was a jet in stock at my Woodcraft dealership so I went with the jet. It was all about speeding up my sanding process, and I couldn’t be happier with the jet. I never use the super max. Thanks for the question. Happy Woodworking to you. Quick note I would’ve saved a little bit money and got the 1938 instead just so I had a little bit bigger one.
Thanks for the info. Was just debating 1020 or 1632. 1632 it is! Need to move dust collection to attic to make room in my 11’ x 20’ shop. Any advice on that? Did you vent to outside? Thank you
nice review. looked at the grizzly, returned it the same day. it is so under powered that no matter how slow it fed, the machine would bog. will get one soon. Question, whats that jig on your wall above your jointer. nice jointer btw, i have one
Thanks I love my 16/32 It’s called a rritterboard. Here’s a video I made about it It’s pretty cool it’s one of my favorite things in the shop. Here’s a link. ua-cam.com/video/Odfwnh6555g/v-deo.html
THanks for this, looking at all the info that I can on this model. I'm just about sold on it. Did you get your casters from jet or just go with harbor freight?
Hey man, thanks for the video. We do a lot of small pieces using 1/8” Birch as small as 4” in diameter sometimes. It takes me a lot of time sanding them with an orbital. Would this be good for small pieces like that? Thanks again!
Great video? I am considering the super max and the jet! Since laguna took it over seems like they're pretty close in quality. Why did you chose the jet?
Yeah there’s a few reasons why that would be happening are you talking about the snipe? Meaning the last 2 inches or so? Or is it more than that like 6-? 8 inches ?
I'm 99% sure I'm buying a 16/32 jet ds I know I will need dust collection like you but can't afford both now Can I hook up a dedicated shop vac until Also I an moveit outside and sand too Suggestion/ recommendations???
Hundred percent you can use a shop vac. It just won’t work as well as a dust collector. It’s a low pressure high volume versus high pressure low volume situation. You can also move it outside. This is on the best things ever bought my shop. It saves me hours of time sanding I use it almost every day. Thanks for watching means a lot. Happy Woodworking.
I'm just a hobby woodworker but I plan on buying one this month (10% off sale). Did you compare the Performax 1632? I've read a lot of good and a lot of bad reviews for that one. I was planning on the Jet. Bill
I made my decision of what I wanted early on which was the jet and so every time I looked at the Supermax I just wasn’t in it I just didn’t love it now I realize the Supermax is a little bit better built and a few of the components that are plastic on the jet versus metal or composite on the Supermax I love my jet 1632 so glad I got it
Would you consider buying a used 1632? Are they robust enough to chance buying used? I’m looking at a older 1632 plus for $700 and I’m just not sure if it’s worth taking the chance. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Oh hell yes I would take that deal for sure ask a lot of questions when you buy it how often was it used? Have you had any issues XYZ and I think it’ll be a great deal. Save 1000 bucks thanks for watching means a lot by the way.
Can you move close to me so i can come over? I have CNC but i need the jointer and drum sander . My CNC is 32x32 is why i need drum and a planner is not going to work for me. out of room need to build a building...:)
@@StonerEricson I just discovered makerspaces in my community Looks like i might have access to one? maybe. I went to my first one yesterday. was really cool learned a lot. in Ohio
For orbital sanders, I wish I could afford the Mirka but with this jet 1632 I can actually take it all the way up to 220 so I don’t end up doing a lot of orbital sanding anymore. Just finished with a handstand break the edges. Thanks for watching by the way means a lot.
My clips for sandpaper are a pain in the ass. Wish I had gotten Supermax. Such an easy fix for Jet but nope. Father has arthritis had him try it and he could not work them
I also have a Jet 1632 and it is a good machine, easier to use than Performex, which I sold. I use it instead of a thickness planer, but I see the limitations to the sander. I don't make cutting boards. I believe a helix planer will be more efficient for my needs. I have a 2 car garage shop so space is a premium. The Jet 1632 has got to go.

Great video? I am considering the super max and the jet! Since laguna took it over seems like they're pretty close in quality. Why did you chose the jet?
It is the one that I wanted the super max is great the both are about the same as far as I’m concerned it’s just a preference 👍
Good Morning did you have or know about that drum sander only taking out the back half of the material?
Yeah there’s a few reasons why that would be happening are you talking about the snipe? Meaning the last 2 inches or so? Or is it more than that like 6-? 8 inches ?
I'm 99% sure I'm buying a 16/32 jet ds
I know I will need dust collection like you but can't afford both now
Can I hook up a dedicated shop vac until
Also I an moveit outside and sand too
Suggestion/ recommendations???
Hundred percent you can use a shop vac. It just won’t work as well as a dust collector. It’s a low pressure high volume versus high pressure low volume situation. You can also move it outside. This is on the best things ever bought my shop. It saves me hours of time sanding I use it almost every day. Thanks for watching means a lot. Happy Woodworking.
I enjoyed your video
Welp I’m so glad u liked it thanks for watching it means alot
I'm just a hobby woodworker but I plan on buying one this month (10% off sale). Did you compare the Performax 1632? I've read a lot of good and a lot of bad reviews for that one. I was planning on the Jet.
Bill
I did a ton of research and this 1632 was my best choice I love it
@@StonerEricson Thanks!
I do have one question for you, why didn't you get the supermax 16-32?
Awesome info on this sander. Thank you. Just curious on the difficulty and time required to change to a different grit paper.
It’s super easy it literally takes like less than a minute once you figure out how to do it. Thanks for watching by the way means a lot.
@@StonerEricson Hey, thanks for the quick response. Much appreciated 👍
Good evening, do you recommend this tool?
Better other model or brand?
Yes this one is the best for me
thank you! the 1836 model, in your opinion and superior?
Can you move close to me so i can come over? I have CNC but i need the jointer and drum sander . My CNC is 32x32 is why i need drum and a planner is not going to work for me. out of room need to build a building...:)
YES ware are u ? My shop is always open to you my friend
@@StonerEricson I just discovered makerspaces in my community Looks like i might have access to one? maybe. I went to my first one yesterday. was really cool learned a lot. in Ohio
@@st0mper121 nice
Thanks for the video. What sandpaper do you find that is the best balance between quality and price?
For orbital sanders, I wish I could afford the Mirka but with this jet 1632 I can actually take it all the way up to 220 so I don’t end up doing a lot of orbital sanding anymore. Just finished with a handstand break the edges. Thanks for watching by the way means a lot.
@@StonerEricson sorry I meant what sandpaper do you use for your Jet 16/32?
@@brianmorris6019 oh sorry it’s from super max. Tools I get it from woodcraft I use 80 120 150 and 220
My clips for sandpaper are a pain in the ass. Wish I had gotten Supermax. Such an easy fix for Jet but nope.
Father has arthritis had him try it and he could not work them
Mine are too definitely had to get used to it thanks for the comment means a lot
420 dude🙃 lol jk but I always think about weed when ur videos pop up in my notifications lol and I try and make it a point to comment 😎
Cool let me now how it goes thanks for watching
Damn those are pricy - can get a planner/joiner and table saw for 1800$ lol I know u get what u pay for and Jet is top of line
If I can't save the video I will not subscribe, because I watch them when I have time.
Ok great I’m sure you can save it
@@StonerEricson Sir I opened your video today and I was able to save it so thank you for the follow up. I just purchased this drum sander and am so excited about it. Again thank you for the follow up
@@glong2720 holy cow I’m sorry I went to my UA-cam settings and made sure that it was downloadable or shareable or savable so glad you bought the jet 63 to just re-watch the video. I don’t know what else to tell you. I think you’re awesome. I have done all I can on my end. Reach out to UA-cam and tell me a bunch of dumbasses.
Nice beard
Hahha it got a little wild there for a minute
@@StonerEricson great review by the way :)
