      ikr? I dunno why Chris & John thought that was the exact same scene from that film, what he does to the woman in this one was what we all thought he was gonna do to the lady in H20. He spares the lady in H20 & brutally kills her and the other guy in this film.
      If anything, it was a nod to that scene, there are various nods to many films in the Halloween franchise, the Silver Shamrock masks were in this one, those two cops joking were a reference to the cops in Part 5, the evil doctor twist was a reference to Halloween 6 and even the face stomp was a nod to RZ's Halloween 2 where Michael stomps the guy's head outside the strip club. Chris should've caught all of these but it seems like he saw only the negatives in this film.

    I wish I could've been in the room to correct some of what they say during this analysis. I love Chris, but as a life long Halloween fan, I'm a bit disappointed he didn't even get the point of why they showed Allyson still holding the knife in the truck. Jamie Lee Curtis has said in so many interviews that she hated how John Carpenter made Laurie drop the knife multiple times in the original. So this new film made it a point to show you that this newer generation has learned from those past generations mistakes. Made perfect sense to me. Wasn't anything jarring about it.

      Movie Addict 101 Just as I said, it signified to me that this new generation has learned from our elders. Laurie wasn't prepared in the original, where as Alyson had heard about Michael her whole life. So she won't be affected by him the same way her grandmother was.

    The twist with the doctor was easily the weakest part of the film, but it didn't kill the movie for me. It was a dumb little subplot that could've been handled better, but after he died, the rest of the movie was back on track. It didn't bother me as much as the twist of Michael and Laurie being siblings in Halloween 2, because not only was that mishandled and badly written, but it retconned the original film and changed Michael's motivations. This new film was not as good as the original, obviously, but I do think this is the best Michael Myers halloween film since the original. This film was full of really suspenseful, brutal sequences that were really well shot. The comedy relief only bothered me a couple of times honestly, and even then, were only nitpicks to me. I think this film could've been improved with better editing. But my issues with Halloween 2018 were really just nitpicks for the most part. The bathroom sequence, the tracking shot of Michael killing innocent people in the neighborhood, the part where he murders the babysitter, and the final showdown with Laurie I thought were all really excellent. Those scenes were definitely the highlights of the film for me. I love John Carpenters Halloween, but even that was a flawed masterpiece. That film was not devoid of problems. I don't think this new film is a masterpiece by any means, but was still really well made and was full of intense moments and an outstanding musical score. I'd give Halloween 2018 a B+, a worthy successor to John Carpenters Halloween and one I'm very much looking forward to watching again.

      @@ParisofNowhere Thanks! And I totally understand where Chris and John are coming from, I've been a big fan of them for over five years. Halloween (2018) just really worked for me more than them. Yeah it has issues, but mostly just nitpicks for me. I think the doctor subplot could've worked, there were some good ideas there. I get what the filmmakers were going for, I just didn't think it was well executed. But I was very happy with the rest of the film. I'm really looking forward to seeing it again.

    • @robertwild9447
      @robertwild9447 5 років тому +8

      @@ParisofNowhere I agree. I do like Halloween II (1981) but I prefer this new film as a sequel to the original because I think it more naturally moves the story forward with Michael and Laurie. I'm glad they are no longer siblings, their dynamic in the original and this new film is more interesting. Plus the twist with Michael and Laurie being siblings was pretty convoluted to say the least. John Carpenter himself never wanted to write Halloween II, and it's always been clear that he's never really been happy with it.

    • @sociopathsurvivor7129
      @sociopathsurvivor7129 5 років тому +4

      Robert Wild I have to disagree that the siblings subplot in H2 ruined Michael’s motivations from the original film. I personally felt it was hinted at and foreshadowed all along even if John himself says it wasn’t so. It’s possible it was always in John’s mind subconsciously even if he wasn’t self aware at the time because what possible explanation would there be for Michael to have ever uprooted Judith Myers’s tombstone then? It just doesn’t make sense. And then he placed the headstone over Laurie’s friend’s corpse. Personally I interpret that as Michael taunting her as his sister with what he did to his other sister. I interpret it as he had that motivation all along and knew she was his sister but Laurie herself and we as the audience don’t find out until the sequel.

    • @robertwild9447
      @robertwild9447 5 років тому +1

      @@sociopathsurvivor7129 That's totally fair, but my biggest issue is Laurie having repressed memories of seeing Michael when she was younger, then she starts dreaming about it after she's told Michael Myers was the killer who just attacked her. Laurie ever meeting Michael when she was younger was simply unnecessary. Loomis and Laurie should've had more screen time together at the end of Halloween II, and he could've told her about her relation to Michael. It was just overly convoluted and unnecessary in my opinion. As for what he was doing with the tombstone, I thought it was just Annie who reminded him of his sister, or it was just Michael being a morbid prankster. That's an element of his character that I'm really glad this new film brought back. Whether he puts on the clown mask or the white sheet as a ghost, Michael sure does love celebrating Halloween in his own way. It's always seemed like Halloween is a holiday that really brings something out of Michael. As for why he targets Laurie, it's important to remember the strodes were selling the Myers house, and her placing the key under the mat is when he targets her. I prefer his motives being more of a mystery, but once he targets someone, he's relentless. So, in this new film, I think whatever obsession Michael has with Laurie comes down to the fact that she's the one that got away. It's totally cool that you have a different interpretation of their dynamic, it's just something that's never worked for me personally. I still enjoy Halloween II, but the twist of them being siblings and the fact that Michael was literally burnt to a crisp at the end of that film makes me totally understand why the new film is just a sequel to the original. Despite a few continuity errors, I don't see why fans cant still enjoy Halloween II as well as this new version. When I marathon some of the Halloween movies next year, I'll probably stick with the first three films and then this one.

    • @sociopathsurvivor7129
      @sociopathsurvivor7129 5 років тому +4

      Robert Wild I see your points there too. Although I like the way I interpret it with the tombstone, I will tell you one of the main things that truly bugged me about this new movie was the fact that we don’t even see the Myers house at all. It really bothers me that Michael never truly “comes home” in this movie. That to me is always what made Michael who he is around Halloween. I would have liked to see how the Myers house would look 40 years later from the original. The dollhouse just didn’t do it for me and really felt forced. In many ways I really felt the filmmakers spent too much time prioritizing Easter eggs and just tried too hard to include them and ended up sacrificing true quality and effective tightening of the plot and pacing at their expense.

    The doctor didnt bother me as much. I kinda saw it as
    1. He's been researching his patient for how many years, we saw the affect Myers had on the other inmates when the mask was presented to him, i don't think its too farfetched to think, the Dr's obsession made him become mentally unstable.
    2. He reacted violently to the cop, because in a way, what would the doctor too with his life afterwards, after spending so much time with him over the 40years.
    3. The Dr spoke about ' this is what killing felt like' it was clear he was crazy from the start, in regards to what his plan was, have Laurie and Myers meet,... just to see what happens? But getting back to my point, the Dr, wanted to 'understand Myers and what Evil was' so its not farfetched to see this obsessive taking things too far, in the heat of the moment.
    4. When Myers killed him, i kinda saw it as like, a 'Doom-guy (from the 2016 game) approach'. What i'm tryna say is, when we as an audience are thinking, what the hells is gonna happen now, are the 2 gonna team up, coz we say Myers leave him alone before, Myers had a Doom-guy moment. It was supposed to tell us, NO, you CANNOT understand what evil is, or what i am. Once the Dr put the mask on, he signed his own death warrant.
    5. The film was a B movie, so i thought it kinda fit, thematically.

    I have to disagree with you guys on this one. This movie definitely had flaws but I thought most of it worked. The execution with the doctor’s arc could have been done better but it was obvious to me from the beginning of the movie that he weirdly empathized with Michael and I actually predicted that he would betray the cop. He was sad they were sending Michael to a worse hospital even though Michael deserved it. He wanted to go on the bus with Michael which makes me think maybe he’s the one who freed him. He also throughout the movie kept emphasizing that he didn’t want anybody to kill Michael because the doctor wanted to study him. He spent 40 years studying Michael and felt his life’s purpose was to understand why Michael was a killer and what he felt when killing, and the cop was about to to kill Michael and ruin his only chance of seeing Michael in action, which he’d been wanting his whole career. So the doctor was willing to throw everything away to finally understand the most interesting person he’d ever encountered. He killed the cop to know what Michael felt when killing and wanted to let Michael loose on Laurie because he hoped maybe Michael would finally speak and the doctor could finally understand his way of thinking. That’s why he didn’t even beg Michael for his life, his last words were him asking Michael to speak because that’s what he wanted more than anything. The execution could have been much better but I thought it worked pretty well. He had a boring job for 40 years and he wanted more so he did what he thought he had to do to fulfill his life’s purpose. Like I said before I think he went on that bus to free Michael and had been planning to all along so he didn’t just suddenly decide to be a killer. It was under the surface the whole time. It’s not unheard of for madness like Michael’s to spread and they say psychopaths are attracted to the medical field. This movie wasn’t perfect but it was definitely my favorite of the Halloween sequels and the third act felt more tense then any horror movie I’ve seen in a while. It scared me more than IT and everyone loved that movie. I also thought Jamie Lee Curtis nailed it. I give it a B-.

The only things I can think of that would of ruined the film or come close to ruining it is if the doctor and Michael teamed up and killed together or Michael talked. That shit would of pissed me off. The story was good and to me and I know many others it is without a doubt the best one since the original.

    I have to say, your non-spoiler review really affected me. Before I saw Halloween, I had read nothing but glowing reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, which I suspected could be overhype. But I have to say, you were right in a lot of your criticisms. The way I really knew we were not in a the hands of maestro (in terms of directing), was the scene when the granddaughter is lost in the woods and gets freaked out by all the mangled mannequins that Laurie had shot up. At this point, we KNOW Michael Myers is back at Laurie's house terrorizing her. The crazy doctor is dead. So really, there is NO reason for Allyson (the granddaughter) to be scared. There is no threat. That was just like wasted footage.

    The reason why the original 1978 film is better than the 2018 one is due to who made it. Not just John Carpenter but the rest of the cast and crew. Alan Howarth’s score ( made with John Carpenter ) set the atmosphere. That 1978 film had a sense of dread in every scene. The 2018 one didn’t.

  • @jasonkeene9834

    The original was a more slow-burning suspense film. Michael took his time and did much more stalking. This one had the daunting task of trying to please fans of every movie in the series. In this one, Michael has more of a sense of urgency, trying to kill as many people as possible (because he knows everyone is looking for him), while also showing how much his rage has built over the last 40 years. Honestly, this sequel makes perfect sense to me. Even the crazy doctor, having become "infected" by Michael's evil. They needed a semi-plausible way of having Michael escape, which was obviously the doctor's doing. And the ambiguous ending, leaving the possibility of Michael being alive and Laurie being dead, with Allyson having been passed the torch (still holding the knife). Like I said, I just think it all makes sense as is. To each his own though.

      @@TheTillmanSneakerReview No; what makes something scary, especially in the case of Halloween, is the uncertainty. We don’t understand WHY Michael does what he does. That leaves it up to the audience to fill in the blanks. So many horror movies nowadays seem to forget it’s just as much about what you DON’T show the audience than what you do. At least this film got that right. That’s also one of the reasons Rob Zombie’s version is bad. I don’t need to feel sympathy for Michael by showing his origin. Not doing so makes him an evil supernatural entity almost, because we don’t understand how or why he does what he does. Halloween 4 - 6 also tried to explain it, and those sucked too. He’s the boogeyman; he doesn’t need an origin story, and it’s not even unique, since other Halloween films have already tried and failed.

Is the only possible explanation that he’s pure evil, it can drive any man insane. The doctor becomes obsessed with trying to solve why Michael does what he does that he’s willing to risk everything just to get a taste of a motive, any sign of enjoyment or satisfaction, not just the lifeless husk of a man he’s seen for 40 years. While the scene could’ve played out better I really liked the idea, and thought it fit well with the other themes of the movie, and what it takes to turn a person mad. Hopefully that makes sense

    I usually agree with Chris Stuckmann but definitely not this time around!
    Wow wow wow is all I can say. Halloween 2018 was BY FAR the BEST sequel in the Halloween franchise in my opinion. It had the perfect atmosphere and the musical score couldn't have been any more perfect. One of the best soundtracks that I've heard in a long time to be honest. It was shot beautifully and was a perfect mixture of old and new. You could tell that David Gordon Green really cared for how this movie turned out. He wanted to pay proper homage to John Carpenter's classic.
    In other words, I could tell I was watching a Halloween movie all the way through just from the style and unease that the movie gave me.
    The other cool thing is If you know the films well enough you'll catch some familiar names and little nods to the original.
    It went above and beyond anything I could've expected!! Even made me jump 2 or 3 times.
    People are complaining about the comedic scenes in certain parts of the film. Personally I think it gives the characters a more realistic touch. A loving family that jokes with each other, a couple cops giving each other shit, a baby sitter and kid messing with each other. IT'S NORMAL! Plus it gives a good break in between the intense scenes! Think of it as a horror filled roller coaster.
    Other people were getting into it just as much as I was in the theater. Clapping at certain points and cheering. I haven't had that much fun at a movie in a long time!
    In conclusion, if you're looking for a good horror movie to see this Halloween season, go see it!!!

      I thought it was the best halloween since the first one, I think critics miss the point of slasher movies, there not meant to be masterpieces, old classics like nightmare on elm street and the original halloween are great movies but I think ppl are viewing them through nostalgic eyes, and don’t give the newer slasher films a chance. Compared to all the trash that has been released after the scream resurgence like the elm street remake, Friday remake and the god awful rob zombie Halloween’s this new halloween hit all the right notes for me. If ppl don’t give these movies a fair chance it’s gonna be the death of the slasher genre which is a shame, because I’m sick of all the unoriginal ghost films being made...

    There's no way we watched the same movie. Halloween (2018) is one of the best slasher films I've seen since the original and is easily the best sequel in the entire franchise.
    One of the things this movie did so well was convince me to care about the majority of people killed in the film. This helped to re-establish Michael Myers as the personification of pure evil and ultimately made him scary again. Speaking of which, James Jude Courtney's performance as "the shape" rivaled Nick Castle's performance in the original.
    As far as the funny moments, they felt natural to me. Never forced or out of place. Even the cops talking about the food they brought on their stakeout felt like a realistic conversation you'd imagine they'd be having at that point. The score/soundtrack for this movie was incredible. It improved upon the original and had a modern flare to it. The cinematography was on point. The acting was solid. The kills were just the right blend of gruesome and suspenseful. The only thing I can see being polarizing is the doctor killing the deputy and wearing Michael's mask. Overall, it was a great slasher movie and a worthy sequel to the OG Halloween.

The original isn’t Jaws or Psycho. You sound like you wanted this to be a 30 minute short film. Why aren’t you criticizing the screen time in the first one that was devoted to non-relevant topless scenes? Halloween 2018 was absolutely worth seeing at the theatre.

One of the best Cyberpunk movies ever and it's premise while similar to Venom, even with a much much lower budget it blows the pants off Venom in every way. It was so streamlined and perfect editing. James Wan also had to teach himself everything about directing with Saw because he wrote an incredible script and wanted it done with a specific vision so he had to learn to do it himself, and he's improved so much since then.

      i wanted to see a film of laurie confronting her fears because thats what the trailers gave us but the movie has soo many charecters that are just wasting so much screentime, chris is right laurie felt secondary i would even go as far to say that michael was also very secondary it should've been just about Laurie and Michael why have so many screentime dedicated to needles charecters? They make stupid choices and make the plot confusing as the video stated plot devices the boyfriend needed to get mad with alyson so he could throw her phone away, all that teen drama to get to that point and once he wasnt needed he never appeared again , sartain was just there so that alyson could get to laurie and once he wasnt needed they kill him off , the podcasters were there for the mask and once michael gets the mask they die because they're sudenly not important wich is stupid they have so many screentime only to disappear in the middle of everything,and its all this back and forth thing ,theres so much going on and so little at the same time , if i would've made it would be in a more suburban type of street, haddonfield should have a certain atmosphere i would just dedicate screentime to laurie and michael laurie having all the family problems etc while confronting ting her fears and michael being this creepy stalker or laurie teaming up with officer hawkins wich is a great waisted charecter it would be nice to see them looking for michael in the streets with many trick or treaters walking by or even some michael look alikes idk maybe have a scene in where officer hawkins explains to laurie about what happened that night when they caught michael and locked him up or what happened when they took of his mask or what they saw in his eyes how he sort of believed loomis and what was loomis reaction when michael got locked up ,then maybe show a scene in where laurie is becoming like loomis those would be callbacks with a porpuse not just fanboy easter eggs, or show michael returning the Meyer's house it needed atmosphere and suspense but they went for a dumb slasher with comedy in it ,i dont mind comedy but dont have it in bewteen a tense moment have it way before or way after ,they are things that i did liked the cinematography was good , the score is amazing, Michael's mannerism the mask every technical aspect of the film is great but storywise its a huge mess

If I am going to waste my money and time being emotionally abused by the rude, unprofessional service of the movie theater workers there and the idiotic, immature behavior of the public that is surrounding me, then the movie needs to be better.
    In the movie, the father gets out of his car and says: "Hmm...Let me check and see what is going on."...and then he gets out of his car in a happy demeanor, as if he won the lottery. NO...If you see a crashed bus with criminals roaming on the road...You REVERSE YOUR FUCKING CAR AND GET THE FUCK OUT OF THAT AREA...THEN...AFTER YOU HAVE DROVE AT LEAST 50 MILES AWAY FROM THAT SITE...YOU CALL THE POLICE AND REPORT WHAT YOU SAW AND LET THEM HANDLE IT!!!!.

    I don't understand the Black Sheriffs role in the movie. Not that he's black, or a sheriff. But wtf was his role? Why was he there? He wasn't really trying to derail the investigation, and I think he had maybe 5 lines of dialogue that didn't really do anything for either the movie, the plot, or his character. It was very overacted and just seemed really out of place. Haddonfield didn't have head sheriffs like that, nor does ANY sheriffs office anywhere in the US.
    I literally do not even remember the characters name.

    • @nevertoooldgaming_Rave

      Also, how the fuck old is Will Patton's character supposed to be in this movie???? If he was a first responder, 40 years ago, obviously a sheriff then? He had to have been at minimum, 21. About the same age as Micheal when he was "captured". So is that dude supposed to be a 60+ year old sheriff? How in the fuck. He would not be doing the patrol route thing. That guy would be a desk jockey back at dispatch getting ready to retire. Old cops are put into offices because their bodies run down from the stress and the job. No way, no fucking WAY he is still out and about doing patrol work.
      There is so much wrong with the movie, im glad these two are some of the only ones to see it that way.
      How does a fucking podcaster get Micheal's fucking mask????
      WHY are the security cameras in the hospital still using old as fuck tv tube screens???
      What the fuck kind of recorder were they using? Nothing from 2018, it looked more like something from the 80's, so during the first part of the movie I thought maybe it wasn't 40 years later, but 10 ish.
      How does Micheal have enough room in the back of a squad blazer to kick that hard into the back seat?? You can clearly see its properly fenced. Micheal is 6'5" maybe taller, there is no fucking way he had leg room enough to do that.
      SO MUCH WRONG WITH THIS MOVIE.

Like of course?!?” That’s the whole point of his character. Think about how when natural disasters happen, people don’t take them as seriously as they should have, and someone winds up dead. He’s the person who had the power to warn others and do his due diligence, but chose to ignore it for conveniences sake.

      I always said it was underrated. It has one of the most contained, badass styles of any film. Totally original.

      Sam Smith Shut the fuck up with that stupid shit, man. Should everyone strive to be a snob like you? Easily entertained? We’re talking about a multi million dollar movie, not a flip book. Don’t be such a dumb asshole because people don’t agree with you.

    Michael's such a savage he killed the boy in the beginning but in Halloween 1978, when he grabbed the boy he left him harmless....(maybe because he knew the boy was evil already since he was bullying the other boy)

    SPOILERS: I wish you liked it better but that’s ur opinion and I personally liked it except the ending was anti climactic, to me that was my main fault with the movie. Also I wished the granddaughters boyfriend had gotten his comeuppance from micheal because he cheated on her. Other than that I liked it but not my favorite. The little black kid was the best character to be honest. Who else was rooting for micheal too? Edit: I forgot to mention that the twist was good or unexpected at least but it was underutilized because right after he killed the sheriff or old cop from the original film he was killed off by micheal 10 minutes later. Also I’m guessing that he crashed the bus because I don’t remember the movie thoroughly explaining what happened and I feel like we are just supposed to assume that the doctor crashed the bus. Disclaimer: correct me if I’m wrong and I missed something. One last thing. When micheal was slamming the male psychologist or doctor against the stall after micheal was done slamming his head the doctor looked up as if he wasn’t dead I thought at least and then later was expecting him to show up but I guess he was dead. That’s just me though. I also thought it was cool how at the gas station you could see micheal killing the janitor in the background.

    You crazy, Stuckmann!! This movie was great! Probably my favorite of the series. Like I thought the screen time of the granddaughter was great.

      They just dont get the point how the granddaughter works because this is a 2018 reboot so since laurie is a young girl in 1978 then they have to make another young girl of course that is allyson strode

    I thought Laurie made it easy for Michael to get in the house because she wanted him there because it was "a trap". So that explains why she didnt board all windows, left the remote on the counter (even though he ended up just ripping the whole damn island off), etc.
    I also dont think that the doctor just one day decided to start killing and help Michael. He seemed like he was obsessed with his patient and wanted to see him in full form and hopefully TALK, like he clearly stated, when he saw Laurie. While I didnt care for the twist either, I dont think it was quite as random as you made it out to be.
    And what was up with the asshole boyfriend not dying? The second he appeared on screen I said out loud "Oh this guy is dead." But then after trying to make him the most unlikable characters in the film, he is never seen again, weird. Also, Black Sheriff disappears randomly as well after being a pretty big part in the first couple murder investigations.

    When are you gonna give your review on Bad times at El Royale?

  • @ronniepooch

    To me... this film was a WASTED OPPORTUNITY to do something TRULY great. I feel they could have removed Michael's doctor completely, and focused a little more on the two podcast journalists who re-introduced the mask to Michael. I understand their purpose was to serve as an expository device to the story, for the sole purpose of returning the mask back to Michael. I just think they could have been a little more than that, making way for less of a happenstance scenario. Having them interfere with Michael's life, trying to interview him over a period of years and ultimately drawing the insanity out (re-awakening of the boogie man) would have worked out the best here. I would have even liked to see Michael waiting for the perfect opportunity to use them to escape, perhaps the lady drops a hairclip, and Michael snaps it up while no one was looking, waiting for the perfect time to pick his cuffs and use it to escape from the asylum (like Hannibal Lecter did in Silence of the Lambs). Michael could have then followed the podcasters to the gas station, kills them both, and that's where he retrieves his mask again, let alone the mechanic's outfit. I also didn't like how (out of all the people who live in Haddonfield), Michael happens to go after Laurie Strodes grandaughter. It makes it feel like only 3 people live in Haddonfield (The Strodes). I also didn't think the interaction Laurie had with Michael from the first film was traumatic enough to force her to go all Sarah Connor in this film. I expected her to have gone on with her life, but part of her arc forces her to take a stand against Michael and fight back by the end of this film. To be honest... it would have worked great had any of the Strodes been in this film. It should have been another night where Michael randomly kills, running into our main heroin who attempts to stop him. I wanted to see a flashback to the end of that night from the first Halloween, as Michael was taken into custody (after being shot X amount of times from Loomis).
    This film should have been called "Plot Devices 101: The Movie". I give it 2 out of 5 stars.

    I didn’t watch the movie until recently so I missed this review until now. I have to say that I’m really surprised by their reactions. The original Halloween is one of my 2 favorite horror movies ever and I felt this was a worthy successor. The part with the doctor surprised me, but I didn’t feel it was forced and I felt the way Michael killed him was perfect.
