Great update guys. We were on the west side of Scotland when the storm hit. Winds were pretty strong, branches down and we got snow too. We cancelled our membership to the caravan and motorhome club last year. We love Scotland. We're up there a lot to see 109 year old Grandma near Stirling. Looking forward to your next vlog guys.
I agree with you about the pricing . As a new motorhome user we joined and stayed at their Southport site . They talk about facilities , but for £35 a night we got a toilet block . I like to travel to Scotland in winter and their sites are closed so I stay at better private sites cheaper . In warmer months we have found private , Holbourne, Haven or Park Dean cheaper and they have lots of facilities and things to do . Other problem with lots of club sites , they are out of town or remote and difficult to then explore from if you haven’t got a car .
We used the camping and motorhome club years ago but they are just to expensive and there are so many rules we just don’t feel comfortable, the camping and caravanning club is much better (and cheaper) we don’t really use the sites but the CS small sites are good, plus if you are a member you can use all their facilities for a couple of hours for about £7.50 at quite a lot of their sites, it’s really handy 👍🏻
Yes we have had positive experiences with the camping and caravanning club ❤️ and the facilities stopovers are such a good shout. Although one thing we find hard at this time of year is being able to tell which sites are still open in the winter.
£55 a night is ridiculous especially in December , we tried to book onto a site in Callander late October and they wanted £40 a night for 2 adults ….nope !
You should download a trucker stop app, you have the best of both worlds, you can be a lorry or you can be a motorhome, you don't see Artics staying on the awful Caravan and Motorhome sites and we get parked up in safe park ups when storms roll in all time.
I use several but maybe try "Truck Parking Europe" the park ups might not be glamorous but they might get you out of a pickle if your in a hurry for a park up because of a storm ect.
I think you got on the wrong side of the caravan club person for not being totally upfront with them about your size before booking. If you had requested 1 of their larger pitches before you booked perhaps they might have been more accommodating .
In my opinion the Camping and Caravanning Club is nicer and cheaper too. The CAMC sites are much more regimented and more expensive. If you are 60+ and join CCC know them know so you get the 20% ACR discount. This and their mid week deals make their club sites really great value.
@@ramblingrosevanlife Particularly so if you are a lone camper/caravaner, c&mhc a total unaffordable rip off, C&CC club friendly, affordable and good quality pitches. Even more so if you are lucky enough to be a pensioner holidaying out of high season.
TFS - excited to recognise the park you stayed - 45 pounds in 2015 - Double that for us in Australian dollars! We thought that was expensive then! when we visited the FishnChip shop it had been awarded best F&Cs! Long way from Australia for F&C! We Loved the castle- but drove there- steep carpark from recollection! Had the mars bars too! A must! LOL 😊
Nothing to do with being snobby, it's to stop groups of gypsies turning up with trucks pulling caravans. They class this truck as a commercial vehicle.
I'm sorry, we have a small caravan, and I wouldn't like to be parked next to your vehicle. If we were between two like yours, it would be like being in a dark canyon !
With the CMC is think you have to appreciate is that the majority of its members only stay on campsites and I imagine that includes a fair proportion of motorhoming members. Wild camping is probably totally alien to them? The membership fee is £63 a year if you pay by direct debit and most members have recouped that fee this year as the Club have given at least two free nights to members. Have to say the Stonehaven site looks really good. Sadly we have sold our motorhome now due to various health issues but it would have been somewhere we would have liked to visit.
Stonehaven is a lovely place. The campsite was clean and the showers were very nice, but you don't really get that much for your money in comparison to some other campsites.
we're in a 9.05m motorhome and we put 9m on everything we book and have never had an issue including CAMC - we just never mention that we're a teeny bit over 9m!
Can't believe they wouldn't let you guys in , the saying it's not what you know or who you know is definitely right in my eyes 🙄 . We didn't have power for two days in the storm ,just glad we had the van to fall back on 😀 great vlog as always 👍 x
Glad you enjoyed the video 🙌 It's a shame we couldn't get on as was looking forward to exploring the town and over just 10cm is a bit silly. A little bit of accommodating would be nice.
Yes we do as we tow a caravan so cannot stay on park ups. They are very expensive as you quite rightly said but saying that weve stayed at non CAMC sites and they too seem to be wacking up the prices. They days of Caravanning being a cheap holiday i think are gone?

@Touringwiththekids hi it is nice toilets buy the harbour and some nice shops. Cullen bay is good as well you can park up before the aire on the left hand side 😉 and it's free balintore is good as well you will get on there great beach for the kids 😀
We are members of that club but when we stayed at Stonehaven at the end of September we filled up with water at the leisure centre behind the swimming pool and parked on the sea front next to the pool. And had probably the best fish and chips ever from The Bay. There is parking at the beach in Melrose but I don’t think you would have got in the bays.
As much as I enjoy following your adventures and your lovely family, at the end of the day you made the conscious decision to convert and live in a truck rather than a large Motorhome, and you must have known that most sites don't permit commercial vehicles as they have a serious ongoing battle to stop groups of Travellers turning up in trucks towing caravans. I foresaw that you may encounter problems on occasion moving forward and this is a perfect example of that. I think your truck conversion is fantastic but its simply not suited for every campsite.

9meters is very reasonable. I went to Gibson park a few years ago the man there was a right jobs worth. He waited until the awning was up to tell us that our caravan wasn’t sited properly, this guy had watched us from the time we entered the pitch he had plenty of time to tell us we needed to be inline with a wooden stake. What a twat he waited until we were all set up to throw us the curve ball, worse he enjoyed it. The facilities were amazing but because of that man we never returned. We went to Stonehaven and enjoyed it. Do they still have the outdoor heated pool there? Welcome to Scotland folks.❤
Oh gosh, luck of the draw really isn't it. All depends who you get. Our welcome at Stonehaven was brilliant, so can't complain at that. Really friendly. The outdoor heated pool is still there, just don't think it's open at this time of year x
We were members for years as we thought they were better than commercial sites, liked the fact there was no club house, no amusement arcade. just peaceful. But i feel the same as you they are far too expensive
It does seem a bit pedantic on the CAMH club's part if they stated they had the 2 pitches of 9.2m however the added measure perhaps was to accommodate clearance of eg tow bars or bike racks to longer motorhomes? Just a thought. We have a 6.1m campervan and both CalMac and Northlink ferries had to charge us the next tarrif up from 6m which was considerably more. Infact CalMac ticket office guy actually came out to measure our campervan at tge ferry terminal because it was one of the first ferry trips we did with it and I said I thought it was 6m but in actual fact was 6.1m by his measurement including the towbar and again we were charged at the higher over 6m tarrif. So to avoid embarrassment and the implication of being dishonest we feel we have to declare it as 6.1m and just accept it puts us into the higher tariff.
I think that's the bit we really couldn't understand, they HAD pitches of 9.2m available. Their response was that if other people turned up, then they may want those pitches. Which didn't really make sense. It sounded to us, like he would rather give other people those spots.
Yes that is really unfair because you are a paying customer too in addition to the fact at that time a club member so why should anyone booking and paying after you be entitled to those particular pitches before you? Doesn't make any sense! CAMH definitely are overpriced for what you get. Caravan and Camping are getting that way too. We prefer to give our money to good locally/community run campsites that more often than not work out cheaper. Wishing happy and safe travels to your family.
No don't think so, as we are allowed on some (like Stonehaven). I genuinely think some just have a tighter entrance, or smaller bays. But on this occasion, we knew they had pitches suitable for up to 9.2m (which would have been fine for us) and they appeared to be right next to the entrance of the site, so should have been okay.
Hi Guy's, Sorry to gear about the interaction with the CAMC, sounds a bit picky for a couple of centimetres, can't understand why they denied you entry, happy you found somewhere else, sounds like its the wardens choice not to follow club rules 😮. Someone must be feeling better, sweet tooth, feed a cold starve a fever 🤒. Did you manage to sort the high engine revs. Keep enjoying Scotland. Take care and travel safe 🙏 Paul and Joanne 👍❤️ We are members but have never paid that much, but the kids are grown up so we only have to pay for two us and not 5 you like you, which hikes up the price 😢.
Picky is the right word I think, and like you say probably comes down to the particular warden. The engine revs seem all fine now (until the next time of course 🙈)
Great video, no I wouldn't stop on a club site, be it a cmh site or CCC site, pure and simply because I don't think you get your money's worth both for p/n fee or for the club fee, I was a CCC club member once and ended up having an argument with the site warden at my very first club site visited. All the best for the festive season and stay safe, Neil
Bit of a job worth I think , everyone I know including myself don’t go to cm. If you had a bike or two on the back would put you over but the rig wouldn’t change. 😊
Should have parked up at Balmedie Country Park about 30 min North of Stonehaven in the horse parking bit toilets no charge 2min from the beach lots of dog walks.
I think that is disgusting glad you got your membership back. Of the 2 clubs I prefer Camping and Caravanning Club and am a 60+ member. In the summer I can get a grass pitch on their club sites for as little as £6 a night in the summer but I certainly object to paying over the odds for a site when so many free or cheap alternatives. The CCC is also a lot more relaxed than the CAMC and cheaper to join. Storm Darragh was not to bad in Hampshire and I hunkered down on a CL away from any trees.
CCC is no better, it's just pot luck if you get a sensible site manager or not, and they rotate them around the sites so no guarantee that if you didn't have issues with a non standard outfit one year it won't be different the next. As for grass pitches, you won't get on with any sort of campervan if it has been raining, is raining or might be going to rain. They have an undocumented "winter season" during which there are no grass pitches, even if the site manager wants to, the computer won't allow them to book you in. Many of the sites will never open their grass pitches to campervans at any time of year. Their peculiar logic is that you might damage the pitch which would mean someone else might have to be turned away in the future, why turning an actual customer away in favour of a hypothetical one is better they can't explain. Also, they don't have non EHU hard standings, so the cost more than doubles if they won't let you on the grass.
Oh blimey tough call. Rules is rules I guess but shouldn’t be ambiguous. But then this is 2024 so….blinking heck. Realise you already been but Portsoy and Cullen are good. Keep smiling. Enjoy your videos.
It was more the fact that we knew there were 2 spaces big enough for us that were available for the dates we wanted. He did mention that he didn't know if other people wanted to use them which we thought was a bit odd.
A dream of mine is to tour Scotland in a motor home. We currently have a 6mtr twin axle caravan, and I really don’t think it will be suited to Scotland. Il be watching your adventures every week as always. Very envious of your adventures 😂
@@bobmckayfreedomI know 😂 it’s just a long way for me. We normally venture down Devon and Cornwall. So I’m used to being on tight winding roads etc. it’s just the 600 mile trip I think I’m not suited for 😂
Our MH is 8.96 metres and struggle to find a site that can take us which is quite strange, I look up sites and think that will be nice to stay only to find that when I update the booking with my STORED!!! MH size they cant fit us in!! why cant they organise an algorism that works out what size can you are and take your size vehicle straight away ...
So you’re between 2” and 4” longer than they expected? Sounds a bit nit picky, because most of the 9 meter guys will have bike racks and whatnot strapped on the back, making them way more than that above spec.
This club monetises everything, at least it did in 2023, even internet access which is so weak it hardly works. If you are not a member, yes you pay a large non member fee and a booking fee. Given that Stonehaven does not compare favourably with many other coastal resorts, east and west this one is a rip off.
Definitely not this why I sold a 2022 caravan lost money but these official sites are pricing themselves out of business at this rate. Plus storage fees, breakdown insurance, fuel it was to much for us.
I know this sounds terrible but I hope a lot of these ripoff sites go under soon, most are tacking on extra charges for awnings and dogs now. We cancelled the membership and just go with whoeever is cheapest at the time
We are in the club every year we get our money back we use 1 all time but never pay much I am same would not do it too much they will price themselves out of business 😮
Am no longer a member of Camping and Caravaning club cos wasnt getting value for money. It is cheaper to book sites but just couldnt justify the annual membership fee. Plus the facilities vary so much between sites.
Why anyone bothers with the Caravan and Motorhome lot baffles me We did have membership for a year but my goodness, we have never met such an obnoxious group of people as their employees

I’m sorry but I agree with the guy at the CAMC. You lied on your membership I wouldn’t have let you on either. Being such a big vehicle you should always ring the sites first and normally they are very accommodating but you set it all off on the wrong foot by lying.

We were members for years as we thought they were better than commercial sites, liked the fact there was no club house, no amusement arcade. just peaceful.
But i feel the same as you they are far too expensive
It was definitely peaceful, but still not justifiable for the money
Great job Teddy
hehe, smashed it didn't he! One take wonder 🎬
Great, thanks fam 👍👀🌷💚💫
You're welcome
Could the issue be with the Caravan and Motorhome Club be to do with insurance Motorhome size?
The CAMC is very regimented, CCC is much friendlier and more relaxed.
@@ramblingrosevanlife ......The CCC are CRAP ...end off.
No, they're just snobby.
Happy on farm Cl sites
10:38 You've been blacklisted 😂
Seriously though up to 3 cm over shouldn't be an issue.
Haha that's what we thought 💭😂
Hi Guy's,
Sorry to gear about the interaction with the CAMC, sounds a bit picky for a couple of centimetres, can't understand why they denied you entry, happy you found somewhere else, sounds like its the wardens choice not to follow club rules 😮.
Someone must be feeling better, sweet tooth, feed a cold starve a fever 🤒.
Did you manage to sort the high engine revs.
Keep enjoying Scotland.
Take care and travel safe 🙏
Paul and Joanne 👍❤️
We are members but have never paid that much, but the kids are grown up so we only have to pay for two us and not 5 you like you, which hikes up the price 😢.
Picky is the right word I think, and like you say probably comes down to the particular warden. The engine revs seem all fine now (until the next time of course 🙈)
Anne & Les watching from Lisburn N.ireland
Thanks for watching 👍
Great video, no I wouldn't stop on a club site, be it a cmh site or CCC site, pure and simply because I don't think you get your money's worth both for p/n fee or for the club fee, I was a CCC club member once and ended up having an argument with the site warden at my very first club site visited.
All the best for the festive season and stay safe, Neil
Thankyou for watching. Wishing you a great Christmas too 🎄
When in Aberdeenshire try portsoy caravan park .brilliant wee place great chip shop near buy best ice-cream shop in Britain also
Sounds great! thanks for the recommendation x
The Bay Fish and Chips, best chippy in Scotland. Calum is the best of the best for supporting local businesses
We were quite pleased, really good chippy!
Bit of a job worth I think , everyone I know including myself don’t go to cm. If you had a bike or two on the back would put you over but the rig wouldn’t change. 😊
that is very true, such a minimal difference in size.
We were in Somerset in our 7.5t and felt like we were going to go over a few times.
It seemed to hit almost everywhere in the UK!
Thanks for the information.
That castle was something else stunning
Really stunning!
We do have lorry’s and buses up here plus mains electric lol
@@bobmckayfreedomI know 😂 it’s just a long way for me. We normally venture down Devon and Cornwall. So I’m used to being on tight winding roads etc. it’s just the 600 mile trip I think I’m not suited for 😂
Park Ric at a pub on the road up to the castle and catch up with him on on the way back😂
To be honest he'd much rather be up on the hill than in a pub 😂
Our MH is 8.96 metres and struggle to find a site that can take us which is quite strange, I look up sites and think that will be nice to stay only to find that when I update the booking with my STORED!!! MH size they cant fit us in!! why cant they organise an algorism that works out what size can you are and take your size vehicle straight away ...
That does sound a bit of a funny system. It would be nice for it to just show up sites that will be suitable for a certain length.
Welcome to the east coast, so often overlooked in favour for the west and the NC500
Absolutely agree! Much quieter too 😇
You have to try the pizza crunch it sounds wrong but it's so nice honest
What's that?
Could I ask who you have your insurance with
So you’re between 2” and 4” longer than they expected? Sounds a bit nit picky, because most of the 9 meter guys will have bike racks and whatnot strapped on the back, making them way more than that above spec.
Definitely nit picky 🤷♀️
This club monetises everything, at least it did in 2023, even internet access which is so weak it hardly works. If you are not a member, yes you pay a large non member fee and a booking fee. Given that Stonehaven does not compare favourably with many other coastal resorts, east and west this one is a rip off.
We did think it was quite pricey
Definitely not this why I sold a 2022 caravan lost money but these official sites are pricing themselves out of business at this rate. Plus storage fees, breakdown insurance, fuel it was to much for us.
The price of some is crazy we agree x
I know this sounds terrible but I hope a lot of these ripoff sites go under soon, most are tacking on extra charges for awnings and dogs now. We cancelled the membership and just go with whoeever is cheapest at the time
Ahh the extra charges, for each child, then dog, then awning that some sites do, you can end up paying an absolute fortune!
@@TouringwiththekidsTaking our dogs in to use the showers and get our moneys worth😂
Yeah that would be good eh then we would all struggle to stay places....numpty
@andywalton87 Plenty of sites that arent ripoff merchants if you know where to look
Your not far from where i live in Aberdeenshire happy camping.
Thankyou! We are finding Aberdeenshire to be a great place!
Are yous still in Aberdeen today?
The uk is just too expensive to camp Europe is the place to be if only you could stay longer
There is such a huge difference between the UK and say France, Spain or Germany. We do find it much easier over there.
We are in the club every year we get our money back we use 1 all time but never pay much I am same would not do it too much they will price themselves out of business 😮
We are members but rarely stay, they’re just to expensive
Seems to be the general point of view 👎
@@Touringwiththekids I really should cancel, I’d rather sleep at a supermarket than give them the money
Vayri nice turck home
thankyou 👍
Am no longer a member of Camping and Caravaning club cos wasnt getting value for money. It is cheaper to book sites but just couldnt justify the annual membership fee. Plus the facilities vary so much between sites.
My problem is they don't vary enough! They are heavily biased to expensive hard standings with EHU which I neither want nor need.
P.s I've cancelled my membership too hope your subscribers all do it's nowt but robbery
Why anyone bothers with the Caravan and Motorhome lot baffles me
We did have membership for a year but my goodness, we have never met such an obnoxious group of people as their employees
Taste of Perthshire, not far from me
Lovely little place
Caravans hate trucks 🚛 especially if they're 9.1 meters 😂
😂😂
Snotty snobs mate they are everywere such a shame so selfish Freedom is a right we faught and died for # FREEDOM
Great video again, chaps. That's a shame about melrose it's it's a great we town it's where the 7 a side buggy was first played. Stonehaven has a great sit-in chippy. I'm looking for chips and crazy.
Yeah, I'm different sausage and his own way against the grain. Because shdlwm and shdlwm, he asked us to put some spring roles in the other festivals. Shdlwm, now with us on a few days. We are able to make use of the public eye but. Did you know that? Comes with your leg.Is it's so short shdlwm, please shdlwm all of our cameras?Wherever we are in the world shdlwm, and it seems the confidence to all about private information, shdlwm and personal data shdlwm.Safe and shdlwe haven't done it.We didn't feel that we're quite lucky. But let's know where you are in the country sunday. Down in the scottish borders it was bad and a lot of flooding
Problem with scotland is caravan sites are a rip off,so i dont use them
This could be thought of innapropriate to some but im not saying it soo 😏😏😏😏😏a few centimetres does not matter to most 🤭😏😅😅😅
😂😂
Sorry about my comment it just filled it it's self and sent it
Wow! £55 for ONE night! Ffs that’s extortion. Why do people pay it? You guys must be really rich 💰.
Deep fried mars bar. I’d love to try one. We don’t have any in Ireland 😢. I can’t even imagine what it would taste like. I would have thought it would totally melt.
As always, great video, great family and a yummy mummy! 🤪👍
I wish we were really rich 😂 it was very expensive and not our usual style! But needs must I suppose. If you ever get a chance to try a deep fried mars bar, you must!
hello truckers
Hey 👋 ❤️
Sweet tooth Rick
Kept him happy didn’t it 😄
We dont need your power point any more think on caravan sites you got a lot to loose
My favourite family on UA-cam I love the three kids ad Rosie, you take me to places I’ll never see so thank you for being you 🤗 xx
Aww thankyou, that's so kind 🥰
You have been had by the worst ‘club’ who do not consider customer service to be a skill required by them. They are arrogant to the point of being fascist 👿
You've tried the famous battered Mars Bar, now try the absolutely delightful _battered haggis!_
Not sure we'll like that as much 🤔
@@Touringwiththekids you won't know if you don't try it though 🙂
Next time don't say anything lol
I know, would have been better probably.
It’s a lorry
It’s also a motorhome 👍
Absolutely, a converted lorry, quite simple.
I’m sorry but I agree with the guy at the CAMC. You lied on your membership I wouldn’t have let you on either. Being such a big vehicle you should always ring the sites first and normally they are very accommodating but you set it all off on the wrong foot by lying.
😮🤭😏Im guessing the guy at that campsite refuseing your entry must feel a bit stupid guys or at least SHOULD !!!.It seems a thing nowadays a COMPLETE LACK OF COMMON SENSE !!! 😮
It was a real shame, and would be nice if we had someone who was a bit more accommodating.
@@Touringwiththekids As much as it was annoying for yous and ive seen things like that too ! When you try to think about why it happened trying to see there point of veiw/ reason Why does it sometimes just feel completelly wrong and it seems NOT BY AN OPINION BUT PURE FACTS ! 😏😅
