Imagine if there was a show about a team of mystery solvers that were like a rival to the Scooby gang, but they were like, notoriously bad at mystery solving, and yet somehow while the Scooby gang always busts some random crackhead in a costume, this rival gang always gets the straight-up paranormal shit. Like one episode could just be a whole-ass zombie apocalypse. I just came up with an idea like 10 times better than Velma.
I wonder if this was first pitched as an original IP and Warner Bros didn’t pick it up until Scooby Doo was slapped on it. Show didn’t feel like a Scooby Doo show at all from the trailer…
Velma's personality didn't even feel like it was even her. She's not as snarky, just either rude or making forced jokes, something she never even does.

Velma exposing Fred in court has got to be the most potent form of character assisnation up to date. They managed to turn a kind, brave and competent leader into a person so pathetic he makes Jerry from Rick and Morty look like a chad in comparison.
It’s obviously racially motivated as well which makes it 10 times worse. Completely ruining a character just because he happened to have lighter skin is shameful
it is because they wrote themselves into the characters. Edit: Look guys I sorry I mispelled wrote as writted. I apologize and will go thru C&B Torture to redeem myself.
A girl who idolizes Velma as a strong female icon and follows in her footsteps, making her own mystery group only to be met with actual gruesome mysteries instead of people in masks is a way better concept.
My thoughts exactly. This show was a massive vanity project that only exists to stroke Mindy's ego. It tries to have edgy "anti-SJW" """jokes""" while still having a diverse cast for no reason. it literally is a show for nobody but Mindy.
At this point, they're not writing good on purpose. They're writing bad to get people talking and sharing, telling their friends at how shit this new thing looks for social media clicks. Then people watch it because because they wanna see how bad it actually is. I'm convinced that they're purposely writing terribly just for the type of crowd to watch bad things because they're bad.
They know they don't have the talent to actually make something good, but if they make something bad BUT it has the right politics then they can get the media to cover for them.
HBO Max turning off comments on the Velma trailer was a huge sign of them admitting failure and them having a hard time handling criticism. If you turn off the comments on a show/movie that's to be released to the masses, then that shows you are not confident in your show/movie.
Mindy is the sole definition of "Privilege" itself. She grew up in a upper class, went to an ivy league college & never had to struggle in her life to get where she is. She made Velma herself insert but this version of Fred is actually her.
@@voidlight0472 I like that perspective! Seriously though how in the world did they think doing something like that would make any sense? They coulda just written a story about a bunch of adults who are supportive friends and help people that the cops won’t help. They might’ve managed to say something about the world or life on the way, too. I’d watch that.
They literally all celebrate the downfall of each other. Shaggy not even Shaggy anymore, and Velma isn’t actually Velma, it’s an animated representation of Mindy Kaling, who chooses a dam cartoon to spew hate info about her regime against all men, white and straight people . Velma has “blatantly” been gay, but it never mattered in the original show , they are milking that fact more than anything else in the show
My mom tried to watch Velma despite my warnings, but she grew up with the original Scooby Doo while it was having new episodes, so she wanted to watch. She turned it off after 2 minutes. She's not that kind of person, she'll usually give shitty shows a couple episodes, she didn't even give Velma half of one.
I think their hiring process for this kind of adaptation is always: "You are passionate fan, respect the author and the material, and will try to cater to fans? Get out of here." "You hate this thing with every fiber of your being, hearing about it makes you gag, and think you're better than the author? Here, a blank check, go wild."
Something about actually wanting to do something good makes them writhe in agony on the inside, they wont be content until everything good is corrupted and ruined. Either that or producers are the among dumbest fucking breeds of human to ever exist in a position of power
There’s no point for this show to be about Mystery Incorporated. A story about teenagers capturing ghosts isn’t just a scooby doo thing. Just feels like bait, especially when the first teaser of the show included Mindy insulting the audience before anyone said anything.
they had a good chance to do anything positive with this. yet, they said screw the Scooby Doo show and fans. it was made to insult Scooby Doo and fans im sure.
I already know the plot: starting out everyone dislikes Velma or something, then when she solves the murder everyone loves her. Edit: man this blew up fast
"There needs to be a level of respect paid to the source material" was a really good way to put the entire show. All it does is twist the characters into some sort of half-assed family guy flashback skit.

And what SUCKS is that Velma is a fan-favorite character! It wouldn't be hard to make a show about her, people would be 100% behind that! They fucked up so hard, it's unbelievable.
The weird mike Tyson mysteries thing did the whole adult scooby doo knock off thing like 10 times better, and it was diverse too, there was an Asian character, a black character, a gay character, but the characters were actually likable and it was written well
I feel like if 2010 was the era of teens self inserting their OC and the boom of fanfictions, 2020s is all about grown ups inserting their OC and making shows with it. sad thing is, you can always delete or hide a fanfic but you can't hide a fart of a TV show from your resume
Well that's because the 20-something year old writers writing shows today were the 10-something year olds writing fanfiction last decade. And what's interesting is that the industry selects specifically in favour of the bad fanfiction writers, because the good fanfiction writers eventually move on to wanting to write their own original stories, and the industry wants the people who only want to re-interpret other people's ideas.

Issue is, character-wise, Velma was ALWAYS the no-nonsense character. She would have little bits of sassiness randomly, but was never meant to be the comic relief like shaggy and scooby. If they would have done a Velma spin off with the same, more adult, vibe as something like Murder She Wrote, people would have probably loved it.
Yeah and it could of been Velma, Scooby and Shaggy as the main characters and introducing a few new characters even ethnic ones. There could have been a start of romantic relationship between Velma and Shaggy progressing more as the episodes moved forward. They had so many good ideas for this. I like the animation but the show is shit. Changing the ethnicity of main characters that have been with us for nearly 50 years. Like wtf?
I don’t think Velma is really that sassy outside of Mystery Incorporated. She’s a skeptic over everything even remotely supernatural, but she isn’t really sassy.
As a black kid that grew up watching Scooby-Doo; I mean with the VHS specials, stuffed Scoobies, and the Wal-Mart picture cake of the mystery team every early childhood birthday; the previews for this show just made me confused and sad. It'd kinda lose the magic of it. The show would definitely work though...probably better than Velma. That being said, Velma isn't that bad. Am I a fan of the race change? No. Is it the best at everything it does? No. Honestly speaking though, it does do things right. The animation is good, the hallucination scenes good, the mystery/ mysteries have potential to be actual mysteries and not "here's some information after we've unmasked the criminal that we didn't give you before so you could try and figure it out", and the action is well done (like when Fred sliced off the guy's foot (a bit of a spoiler but if you haven't watched the show and this makes you interested, you still won't know when it happens until it happens). Would Fred do that normally? No. The characters aren't Scooby-Doo characters, they only have the names and wardrobe. Velma isn't a Scooby-Doo show though and it's not calling itself one. I think it's pretty cool though. I'd say watch it and just roll with what they give you and don't expect Scooby-Doo (if you haven't checked it out yet).

The “””joke””” of “420 is code for adults who still watch cartoons” is one of the most bizarre, self-sabotaging, and just downright malevolent attacks by a studio on their own fanbase. The show is literally a CARTOON made for ADULTS, meaning that the writers felt extremely comfortable about casually insulting everyone their show is intended to entertain. I’ve seen shows and other projects disappoint, anger, and even insult their own targeted demographics, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen a situation like this where a piece of media will personally attack every single person who will or would’ve ever watched it. How good, quality animated shows on steaming services like Netflix can get cancelled without a second thought, while animated shows like Velma which is written by people who openly hate the medium of animation in their own cartoon can get made is a mystery to me. At least everyone I’ve seen on Twitter is rightfully hating on it.
Not a cartoon, but Netflix cancelled ‘Wednesday’ despite how popular it was. Then only un-cancelled after the backlash. Netflix is really out of touch with their audience

But instead of lazily recreating the original characters, they could have created their own.
That works it’s kind of like how they made the sequel cartoon to the real ghostbusters with a new cast of ghostbusters
I thought they already had a mystery Inc show with the original gang?
@@isaacviveros Yeah it was called Mystery Incorporated, though if you want to be really technical, they *could* make a new show titled Mystery Inc. because it uses the abbreviation instead of the full word...That's just a technicality, though, in practice it would he way too easy to confuse them so they probably wouldn't do that.
Forreal. They did it with the crew as little kids, why not adult adults?
That’s already a fan made thing look up mystery incorporated on UA-cam. It’s surprisingly good!

@FATEd Pondera hell, even if its not a different gang, having the mysteries inc gang do that, like it was a mature version of mystery inc in an alternate reality, but still stay true to what made the franchise good and successful in the first place while respecting it and its audience, would be WAYYY better than this unholy crap, where Velma is a self insert from the show's creator and where her and every single other character is too unlikable for teamwork or even friendship anyways, Fred even being written the villain in the worst possibly psycho way ever just because of his gender, sexuality and race. heck I would even pay for a respectable Scobby-Doo show where Scooby dosent even TALK over this.....this.....this I wouldnt even pirate. youtube videos shitting on it is enough exposure from it for me.
@FATEd Pondera while the name sucks I love the idea for the story
I mean, that's kind of the premise behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer, only more PG.
Velma, the smart one in the group, asking Shaggy for help with her homework, feels weird in itself. And it just gets worse from there.
