Great video. I love love loved seeing your images. Some real gems in there -- the photo of the woman with the pink umbrella in the green "misty" background. Beautiful images + super inspiring as always!
I had a marble sculpture made to my own maquette in Da Nang and I loved the place when I took the maquette to the sculptor. I shot a commercial in KL in the 80s and as a family have visited Vietnam, Thailand, HK and China and if I was 40 years younger I'd probably move somewhere in the east. The people in the far east in general have a much gentler culture and are wonderful. I can understand why you fell in love with it. Have fun.
Thank you for this interesting and informative video. I have only visited Vietnam once, about twenty years ago, but found it to be a beautiful, magical place. As I grew up with reports of the Vietnam War -- aka, the American War -- on television as a child, I felt blessed to be able to visit in peace as a tourist, and yet also haunted by those childhood memories. I'm glad you have built a successful life and business there, and now feel inspired to visit again.
Interesting hearing your story Justin. I'm also a pro that's wanting to live in Vietnam and starting to spend a lot of time there too. Just came back a couple of weeks ago from exploring Ha Giang and Cao Bang. Coming back again in early February 2023. I came across your channel a couple of weeks ago when I was searching for people who were comparing UA-cam photographers to professional photographers. And I think when I was Vietnam in November I saw your "somewhere" as you look familiar.
I do have a lot of doppelgängers here Julian, lots of bald bearded white dudes with odd hats, but I started the movement, I'm an OG :). You went to some of my favorite locations, bet you loved it.
@@AskMOTT oh, I don't know. It certainly looked like you😃But I can't remember where exactly it was that I thought i may have seen you. Cao Bang and Ha Giang are awesome! I'm itching to go back up there again but it won't be until the middle of next year. Back in Vietnam in early February 2023. It can't come soon enough!!!
Justin, I'm a Leica fanboy and so since discovering your channel, I routinely seek you out to get your latest and greatest insights and offerings. Yet of the latest videos that you've done -- this one is spot on! I'm a US citizen but I live and work in Japan. I'm planning a visit to Vietnam next month (Ho Chi Minh City). I'm having trouble with the e-visa. My payment was denied twice. I'll check with my ticket office tomorrow. But when I saw the title of this video I was keen to hear it. Thanks your sharing this and everything else. Continued happiness and success. Doc Chaps
Thanks for watching Doc Chaps, you can always try old school travel agent to get it sorted if the e system isn't working for you. Enjoy your trip here :).
@@AskMOTT Thank you. I’m looking forward to it. If my research is correct, southern Vietnam is warm in January but your neck of the woods is a bit chilly. Have fun with that. I’m enjoying Okinawa living and cold isn’t a part of that lifestyle.😇 Thank you for not deleting me. I passed the Mott Test! Continued happiness and success to you and yours. Peace
Nice to hear the cons as well as the pros of living and working abroad. I'm from London but I've been living in China for close to 13 years now, first as pro musician and now I own a photography company, and yeah all the visa rules and stuff changes a lot. Great video as always, wishing you a great week ahead. -Jay.
Vietnam is great, and so is the whole of South-East Asia. I lived in Singapore for a number of years and that gave me the opportunity to travel around a lot. I hope I'll be back one day. As you said, it is much easier when one does not have a family. That gives me freedom. I would give my kidney for a bowl of Bún bò I had in Hue back in the day, great street food from a nice old lady right in the street in a small food place, just a couple of plastic chairs, no table but the food made with passion. Great great memories. And photographically...it is heaven for documentary travel photographers.
@@olafrotkohl5898 I went to Normandy a while back for a wedding and it was gorgeous, I see why you haven't looked back. I want to cycle through there one day.
Very interesting video. I think it would be hard to uproot although I think of it often. Just curious, did you speak Vietnamese and if not how was that adjustment? Thanks for the video.
I’m terrible at languages and after many attempts I’ve failed. I’m often traveling for work for weeks at a time so I never could get into a rhythm. I’ve been able to get by just fine w English but my wife might say differently ha ha.
I would love to move abroad. My wife, not so much. How long did it take you to learn the language and are you fluent now? Also, do you feel that the Westlake area is becoming more westernized due to all the expats living there?
Vietnamese is freaking easy to be fluent. We dont have to divide the verb, we dont have irregular verbs in tenses. You just need to practice a bit of pronouncing

That's one of the first thing I noticed when I came here, much more welcoming and gentle, for the most part.

Thanks Jay, sounds like w are living a parallel life except for the music part, but hey, I listen to music :).

Well said Richard, but please keep your kidney :).
I live in the city now and it’s amazing! I too want to live abroad when I retire in 5 years so this was dope, thank you!
Thanks Dwayne, good luck with your adventure when you retire :)
Thanks for the video Justin! enjoyed your story
Great info and great frames Justin!!
Thanks for finally making this video. It's quite inspiring.
My pleasure Justin , how are things ?
This was an AWESOME explanation man, thanks a million for this video.
My absolute pleasure.
Bald and bankrupt was there driving a motorcycle throughout the country, the people seemed very friendly
I was bald and bankrupt when I moved here too :).
Thank you
Would you move abroad, if so what country?
Yes Brazil,Japan,Portugal and France
France to start with. Then travel around.
I moved to NYC from Colombia. The most difficult but one of the best decisions I ever made.
I did move abroad, to Normandy in France. Five years in so far, and I’ve never looked back.

hard to find The Place where one belongs as an expat adventurer...for some never? I feel like I am from another century
Me too Kloie :)
Thanks for telling your story.
Thanks Clint.
Great information ..
how random, I think you did my couple's photo shoot about 10 years ago.
Perhaps :)
