"In lore Annie’s mom Amoline was a powerful sorceress that escaped with her husband Gregori from the kingdom of Noxus to find peace in the countryside as the future of their capital was uncertain after the death of their king. They travelled with other Noxian colonists where Amoline was fascinated by the tales of the shadowbear that supposedly roamed the territory. While pregnant with her child Annie, she sewed her a stuffed bear. Months after Annie’s birth, the newborn fell deathly ill, and grew so hot her mother couldn’t hold her without burning herself. Amoline grew frantic and left the house in search of icy water. The following morning, her husband awoke from his illness as well and found Annie cured, with her bear Tibbers beside her. But her mother was nowhere to be found.
It’s more than likely meant to be assumed Amoline used her magic to bind herself to Tibbers to protect Annie and/or sacrificed her life force to save her daughter."
- Mizako 96
It should also be said that the Bear only protects Annie and itself (so it can keep protecting her) but Annie herself like her mother has strong latent pyromancy which she cannot control yet and which breaks free through her emotions.
isn't her father also a warlock?
@@nights1n_ It's a normal human
@@Gaos031 are you sure about that? "Gregori Hastur, the Gray Warlock, and his wife Amoline, the Shadow Witch." Taken from the official wiki.
@@nights1n_ i think that was from previous lore
the annie animation is still one of the best pieces of animation i have ever seen in my life. you can stop it on any frame and it is completely as beautiful as the last.
The interesting thing about the Ekko cinematic is:
It is the exact reverse in game.
In the Cinematic, he stays the same, but everything else goes back in time.
In game: He goes back in time, but everything else stays the same. (He even heals wounds).
Yeah most of these aren't always accurate. They're more like the movie version of the book. But they're gorgeous movies.
Well in this case, seeing that it’s not incorrect, instand being exactly the reverse it could be that he’s using a different invention
If you look at the HP bar as "more HP = more of an advantage" it works. The added HP works to simulate and substitute the new advantage he has got.
Point being: I don't think he is supposed to actually heal from it, but that's the only way to make a similar advantage in game.
Yeah, a lot of it is for the sake of reasonable gameplay
The flower burning in the end is a daisy, reference to the blonde girl
She most prolly got reincarnated as the Ivern's Daisy ... or is atleast big reference.
Oh i thought it was the flower annie used to be that was fading away to leave place to her new self
@@josefplacek4200 Some theorize Ivern found Daisy and saved her the way he could. The downside of the theory is that Ivern is supposed to be in Ionia, where he was transformed into The Walking Tree, but there is nothing in the lore that says he has to be stuck forever in Ionia, so he COULD have been in Noxus when Daisy fell in the river.
@@drbuni Actually no, Ivern is travelling all over the world. He went on a journey to show people respect for nature (As he didnt have it before) And Annie could very much live atleast at borders of Ionia, she fled from Noxus with her dad.
@@josefplacek4200 Nah she dead af, boi.
I've seen Annie: Origins probably 20 times but I still cry at the end every time.
Me too, it's so sad.
Why 😂

Lol, what a normie. Real man cry at the end of Ekko's cinematic.

"The curse of the sad mummy" Amumu's song. It seems cool and I like the art.
YES I loved the amumu video! Such stunning art and music!
110% this
Yeah I kinda wish he watched annie and amumu in succession instead because of the art and storytelling.
i loved amumu's story
It is older and on a lower budget but still very nice!
You should see Fiddlesticks: terror in demacia and Senna: Shadow's embrace
Warwick’s cinematic is also really cool
If he does senna he should do all three parts though not just the last part that everyone reacts to.
Amumu : The curse of the sad mummy has the same style with another character's backstory its awesome !
Was about to say why no one mentions by far the best league cinematic
the curse of the sad mummy best cinematic
My favorite one
The underrated one 😭
Hi Chris,
I wanted to give further insight into the Ekko cinematic, as it is one of my favourite ones from League of Legends.
In summary, the painting (as well as the glasses that appear at the beginning of the cinematic) are the memorial of his best friend, and that's why he decides to go back once again when the painting is broken.
On the other side, in the lore (not in-game specifically, although that is secondary), he goes back to the point he pulls the chain of the time machine he carries with him.
I hope that was helpful :)
Also his friend died shortly after he invented his time maschine. So as soon as he discovered that his friend had died he tried countless times to go back and prevent it but the timing of him completing the time maschine (and with that the furthest point he was able to go back to) was a few seconds too late for him to be able to reach his friend in time. No matter how many times he went back he would always miss him by a few seconds thats why he talks about him only needing seconds and thats also the reason why the wall is so important to him.
@@JayJayK-zy6ct how does his friend died?
The name of his device in spanish is Control Z
@@ZeroJin89 I think it was eigher an accident or murder but i dont really remember that part sry. The point is that it was something Ekko could have prevented if he were there
@
JayJayK2000 But couldn't be there because he was working on the device...
That's a sick lesson about spending time with those you love. We always think we can make up for the time we lose, but sometimes there are those key moments that are too far gone for you to reach out to when you finally make yourself time to.
It's so sad at the end of Annie, the flower that's burning is a Daisy, just like her half-sister that died.
I also feel the burning flower represents Annie's death of innocence now that her family's dead she's forced to be an adult alone in the world
@8:12 I think they portraited Annie as the one sinking at this particular frame to show that losing Daisy made Annie also lose herself, this cinematic is on a whole another level man
I feel obligated to, as an Ekko fan, explain more about him than the Cinematic shows. He is an amazing character and the Cinematic fails to show many things about him.
1. The reason why at the end Ekko goes back in time even defeating the bad guy, is because that wall is important to him. It’s The Wall of Memories, and the paintings there are people Ekko lost (either literally or not)
2. The biggest face on the wall is Ajuna, they explain his death in Chronobreak (Ekko’s comic)
3. Ekko lives in a place called Zaun, which is, to put it someway, kind like the “underground” of a place called Piltover
4. Ekko hates Piltover for leaving Zaun to “rot”. His objective is to make Zaun good again. He also has a grudge against the city cause the person who killed Ajuna was a Piltie. He fights people like the one in the vid because they are “what’s wrong with Zaun”
5. Ekko is a prodigy, his parents want him to go to the Piltover academies, but he, naturally, doesn’t want to. (This is beautifully explained in the Ekko’s short story *Lullaby*)
6. The reason why Ekko has this sentiment regarding time is probably because of how he couldn’t save Ajuna.
7. At the end of Chronobreak (the comic) Ekko says: “Some things just can’t be fixed... There are no tools... No spare parts... these things just need time. And even then, they’re never the same”.
8. His time machine is called Z-drive
9. Funnily, even though in the lore he goes back in time but he is still affected by what happened, in game he takes back all the damage he took xd
I’m sorry for the long text, this character is just inspirational for me. The reason I love character design :)
And of course Thank you so much for this video! The cinematic is how they revealed Ekko and when I first liked him so much, and seeing this analysis on it is just amazing! It’s like a whole new perspective on it 👏🏽
he doesnt take back all the damage it's a %
Well he does not heal every bit of damadge ingame and i think he also heals a bit in the cinematic
Hey, I don't know much about ekko lore so could you explain how his z drive works in it?
I noticed he pulls the chain at the start right, and every rewind goes back to that very exact moment.
So, does he need to pull the chain to make some sort of "time marker" where he can go back to?
Does it mean he can't freely choose what time to go back to, only the one where he activated the device on his back?
Does that also mean he can indefinitely leave the device running, and theoretically have a permanent marker he can go back to or does it time out or have a limit after a certain amount of time passes?
I'm really curious because this is such a unique way to showcase time powers in any media.
@@idiosyncrasy7703 It is implied there is a time limit but we don't know exactly (it's more then an hour), but yes it basically creates a checkpoint.
This is very important in the comic since he couldn't save his dying friend who was far away even after reloading over and over, because he couldn't get there in time, even in the perfect scenario he can create with his Z-drive.
@@codebracker that's such an interesting way of using time travel in a story. It reinforces the whole thematic that even someone with great power is at the mercy of destiny. I think I'll read his comic when I get the chance.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question!
The painting in the background of Ekko: Seconds is a mural of his best friend who died shortly after Ekko finished his time machine, upon realizing that his friend died, he reset time over and over again but always failed to save him and had to come to terms with his friend's death. Also, Ekko pulling the chain on the machine on his back sets an anchor point in time, in which he can jump to by twisting the small dial on his arm.
Sad story but made people realize that even Ekko can't change fate. What's meant to be, is meant to be.
"Time doesn't heal all wounds" -ekko
It makes sense now
I noticed a Jose Rizal familiar face in the painting
Its the paradox of the travel time...
Its like Steins Gate
IMPORTANT FOR THE EKKO CINEMTIC and I didn't see anyone comment this before:
When Ekko gets harmed and then travels back in time (which is 4 seconds in-game and he deals TONS of damage in the area where he appears) he still feels some of the pain but the injury does NOT remain. In-game when you use your ult you regain a percentage of the health you lost in the last 4 seconds. But not all of it.
So it Ekkos hand were to cut off and he would reverse he'd still have his hand but also would feel some of the pain of the cut.
First of all, let me say I love the series. The analysis gets me thinking about stuff I wouldn't on my own, which I like to keep on the back of my head when I watch other stuff and in case I can apply it somewhere on my line of work (it's indie game development). \o/
In any case, since we're talking horror, I'd like to suggest a League of Legends (VERY) short animation called Terror in Demacia. Even though it's short, it's really intense, has some very nice shots and there's something they chose to go with in it that makes it even more terrifying, but I won't spoil it. But it's really short, so it would probably be good to pair it with other (VERY) short ones, like The Climb + Shadow's Embrace.
YEAHHH, now go and Learn all about Jhin and become insane like us with his glorious ART...

"The curse of the sad mummy" and "Light and Shadow" are a must watch for sure.
Here are some of the LoL Animated Cinematics I would recommend watching,
Music Videos:
*K/DA* (K-Pop)
*True Damage* (Hip-Hop with amazing 3D+2D Animation)
*Rise* (Animated Story of Esports Players)
*Phoenix* (Combines Live-action with CGI)
*Breathe* (Artistic, with some awesome cinematography)
*As We Fall* (Character Backstory)
*Legends Never Die*
*The Curse Of The Sad Mummy* (Artistic, Character Backstory)
*Get Jinxed*
Some Narrative-focused Cinematics:
*Tales Of Runeterra* (7-part Series taking place around the world of LoL)
*Ryze: Call of Power* (Character Backstory)
*Terror in Demacia* (Kinda Scary)
*A New Dawn* (Action-oriented, more depicting of actual gameplay)
And a Narrative Trilogy:
*Senna: Dark Passage*
*The Climb*
*Senna: Shadow's Embrace*
I might be slightly obsessed with LoL Cinematics.
Btw love your reactions :)
U forget Ryze: Call of Power
You missed light and shadow
Good picks
Amumu: The curse of the sad mummy is definitely god tier animation as well! Very similiar to Annie, both in style and emotions

"That is so Dark!" - Well, her title is "Annie, the dark child" :D
You should definitely watch:
Light and Shadow - Star Guardian 2019
And
Wild magic : Xayah and Rakan - champion cinematic
Those two are so striking awesome!
Light and Shadown is a MUST!
Ekko cinematic: The mural on the wall is Ekko's best friend who was murdered. Even with his time reversing tech, he wasn't able to save him, the best he could do was avange him by catching his murderer. The fact that the mural rebuilds itself in the end is the perfect indication of Ekko's line: "If you don't make the most of every moment, you don't deserve a single extra second.", indicating he failed his mission. So he reverses the time one last time to beat the bad guy without destroying the mural.
In game, Ekko's time reverse is his ultimate spell, and it always reverses time for 4 seconds. He has a lot of gadgets that help him fight enemies, though.
Annie: Annie was really connected to her mother. She was a powerful sorceress who found a wild bear and turned him into a teddy bear (Tibbers) for Annie as a personal bodyguard. Her mother passed away, and the father remarried to the woman in the animation. Annie also has the talent of magic, but since she is a child, she can't control it properly, so it manifests as chaotic and destructive, especially when she is emotional.
In game, Annie is a Fire Mage, using her magic to protect herself and kill enemies. Her ultimate spell is to summon and control Tibbers, a huge ass version of her teddy bear.
Hey Chris, at the end the flower that burns is a daisy, and that’s her sister name, probably implying something lol. Loved the video!
"that was so dark"
What do you mean they were all well *lit* up
Yo Chris, I have a feeling you'd love some of Riots older champion trailers such as Aurelion Sol and Jhin's, the atmosphere of those two have a different feeling and has a little more poetic/voice feel to it. Please consider this one ^^
For me the 2 most artistic cinematics from LoL are :
- ANNIE
- Light and Shadow
You should watch it !
Indeed !
u forgot about The Curse of the Sad Mummy !
lovee your work my G, ty for going so in depth and its amazing to learn about all the details and hard work these animators have put in because of your explanations!
Hey Connor! I love your videos, reactions, commentaries and insights about moviemaking/cinematography. You're a fun, genuine guy and your growing popularity shows it. Keep going and good luck with your projects! :)

I think that Phoenix might be very interesting for him to analyze, since it use both real people and special effect.
I would also like to add my petsonal favorite "Rise" too
Fun fact: It's rumored that Ivern, another amazing and well designed Champion, revived Daisy (Annie's stepsister) as his golem
Whoa I never caught that connection!
wow so that is where Daisy name came from i didn't notice that at all

React to : "Welcome Aboard | Odyssey Animated Trailer - League of Legends"
Oh I’d love this! Odyssey!
Yeah it’s amazing
This and "The curse of the sad mummy"
Omg yes I have been waiting for this
Song is called Curse of the sad mummy, you’d find it intense 👌
Actually, Ekko heals all wounds completely, but he still feels the pain no matter what for couple seconds.
Even if his arm is cut off, it will be back but the pain would be tremendous for a couple of seconds.
your so freaking amazing i hope i could take from u what u teach us i respect you man and good luck keep going with all love
That wall in the ekko cinimatic is a mural of a dead friend of ekko's, practically a brother. He tried for who knows how long in a time loop trying to save him, but he couldn't, this kind of explains his philosophy.
Cool ...now wach "The climb" "Senna'' "A new dawn" and "A twist of fate"
The Climb and Senna should be watched one after another since Senna is a continuation of that scene.
@@Brby1 Maybe...but Trash and Lucian had multiple useless fightsin past....maybe it was one of that fights...who knows)
I recommend the animated series "Tales of runeterra" in which they travel the world of league of legends telling short animated stories to the audience. I think you will love them. Also i really want to you go other the animation for their long "True Damage - Giants" Gald to see you enjoying this and cant wait for more videos
I definitely recommend Varus: As we fall as well as Light and Shadow, they are both music videos but they are all made with the same video quality and storytelling!
These in depth analysis/reactions are really interesting and I would suggest that for your next League of Legends themed video, you should react to the "curse of the sad mummy" or "Warwick: the wrath of zaun"
other champions cinematics you should be:
BARD
FIDDLESTICKS - "terror in Demacia"
JHIN
The moment that ekko goes "back to" in game is a set time where the character was. In the video it seems to be he can mark the moment he goes back to by pulling the chain on the left side of his device(on his opening time travel he is pulling on a chain) he never touches the chain again the subsequent time travels. Its such a cool little detail that the animators put in.
Man, now you are in a world that you can't quit anymore, there's a LOT of cinematics to you react and i'm certain that everybody will ask you to see them all, great job partner.
P.S. Say Hi to Brazil
I strongly recommend 2 of my favourites: Jhin and Pyke release trailers. Jhin is a murderer obsessed with art and the number 4, every death is art for him, and Pyke is a betrayed sea monster hunter who seeks revenge on thise who betrayed him. Both incredibly interesting in Lore and Design wise
Viperous Whisper Pyke used to go after the one who betrayed him*. Now he just kills for killing.
I literally have seen the pyke cinematic like 20 times and I get chills all the time
I'm new to LOL too and have decided to play game myself so watching the cinematics with Chris is really fun and entertaining for me
Quit while u can son. It's cancer
I'd suggest not trying LoL, this game will make you extremely toxic and it is really addictive.
What you could do is invest yourself in the lore though. It's gonna take a couple months to read/understand the whole lore, and a couple more months to dive into theorycrafting.
My heart still goes nuts at Annie's ending scene
Annie's story is actually one of my favorite. Hopefully I can properly explain Annie's background. I don't think she is evil. I think she is just a normal kid with unfortunate history. People don't understand her that is why they are scared of her.
So Annie's mother, Amoline, is a witch. I believed they moved to the northern lands of Noxus, which was unfamiliar to them. There was a shadow bear roaming around the land, which Amoline later conjured and put its spirit onto the teddy bear (Tibbers) to protect Annie.
A couple years after Annie was born, she and her father fell ill, and the mother was the only taking care of them. Amoline went to the river to get some water. Ironically, from what I read, I believe that she died the same way Daisy died (drowned from the river). But when Annie's father woke up, he just saw a now healthy Annie without Amoline.
Annie is very attached to Tibbers because that is the only physical reminder of her mother.
Annie inherited her mother's magical abilities. She was born a mage with a very powerful pyromantic powers. In the cinematic, she still doesn't have much control with her powers. Extreme emotional and physical stressors triggers Tibbers to come out, and that's what happened when her step-mother tried to take Tibbers away from her.
Hopefully this gives you some background story to Annie!
The flower at the end of annie’s video is a daisy which refers to her step sister’s name
Maybe try: Tales of Runeterra: Ionia | “The Lesson”
No matter how many times I try to prepare myself for Annie's scream near the end, I always get chills down my spine.
Unless my memory fails me, Annie's mother was witch and she put a spell on the teddybear to protect Annie.
It reacts to Annie's negative emotions like Fear, anger or sorrow.
In this particular video more or less everything was on accident.
The only clear case of Annie actually doing or partially doing anything is right at the end where she snaps.
Also that *Daisy* burning in the end shot is probably not an accident from Riots design team.
Was the other girls name not daisy? Or am i hearing somethimg wrong

World of Warcraft has some cinematics in similar style to the Annie cinematic that would be fun to check out:
Lords of War (5 parts: Kargath, Grommash, Durotan, Kilrogg, Maraad)
Harbingers (Illidan, Gul'dan, Khadgar)
Warbringers (Jaina, Sylvanas, Azshara)
I especially like Jaina and Sylvanas
Jaina's gave me the biggest goosebumps of my LIFE, i need him to react to the jaina trailer
Chris: i never scene this type of animation, it's like animated drawing
@CHRIS CONNOR And as for Annie's history in league:
She was one of the first six characters designed out of 148 champions as of current date. This plays well with the portrait-style art design; they're able to slow down their framerates, giving a sign that this might be an event that happened in the past (How old of a character she is) This was a video released when she was brought to modern graphic-standards.
Great video as always 👍 You need to watch anothers WoW cinematics, like Cataclysm and Warlords of Draenor
You should see "The path, An İonian Myth"
"Light and Shadow"
the mural at 15:15 is of his best friend Ajuna, he is shown in the comic (Ekko: chronobreak), and they added him to their other game called Legends of runeterra ( Sumpwork scavenger ).
Cant wait for more of these reaction videos
Great reaction! The league animations are quite something, I am glad you like them!
I'd recommend ryze's cinematic, "Call of power", it's gorgeous.
Another emotional one like Annie's would be "The curse of the sad mummy", which honestly is at least as good (more like a sad music video though)
I hope you enjoy those too!
REACT TO Warwick: The Wrath of Zaun
I absolutely love when you react to league of legends and overwatch shorts!
You wondered what spot he has to go back to when reversing time. As you can see he pulled the line on the device on his back. That's like his "save point". He always goes back to that exact moment. Because to return in time he needs to switch the button on his wrist.
15:20 That is Ekko's old friend if Am I not mistaken
Yep, he plays a role in the new arcane series
they were their friends, there's an story where they die, when they took a job from a tech sir to steal something. that's why he make that wallpaint as a tribut
You should react to Destiny 2’s “Last Stand of The Gunslinger” you’ll love it!
we need more league of legends cinematic reactions, i get goosebumps every time i watch them
Now that you mention it, it's funny that in-game the time traveling ability only affects Ekko, healing him and going back like 3 seconds where his position was
You should check new trailer “The Path” for League of Legends. It my fav trailer so far.
React to “A New Dawn” from League of legends too
The end of the ekko cinematic is so meaningful...
he sets an anchor in time when he pulls the chains on his time machine, and he can jump back to this point. BUT he cannot set a new anchor for some time!
so basically he decides to fight this evil guy all over again just to save that picture of his old friend.
Plants (flowers in particular) are often seen as symbols of emotion and character traits in many folk cultures. When the Daisy (in this case a White Daisy which commonly references Purity and innocence) in the end burns after the deaths of all her family members; it symbolizes that Annie no longer can regain that youthful outlook on life that many children get to experience. This also ties in with her Half/Step Sister Daisy as each scene we see with her she exhibits these traits (crossing the busy river unaware of the dangers as one such example). Overall, this story has a very somber theme to it that hits me every time I watch it myself.
Yes, animations are "animated drawings" Chris hahaha
I think he means to cgi animation + drawning technique
Please react to The Path, An Ionian Myth from League of Legends
Certified lore nerd here:
Ekko always goes back 4 seconds in the past, even in game, but he can't bring 'himself' back the entire 4 seconds, only his 'soul' into the body of his past 'self', so if his hand is cut off, he can go back to when he still had his hand as long as less than 4 seconds passed, but he will still feel/remember the pain of it being cut off. That's why he flinches there.
As we fall is also good to watch. It is like a music video but it's still for a specific character.
You know whats darker?
*TERROR IN DEMACIA* watch it
I'm second , can u do more overwatch cinamatics
people do think of animation as different from film, but often forget that the animators are literally being actors, they need to show ever minute detail of the character's subtle reactions and emotions. very hard to do, and camera techniques do apply to any composition shot, thanks for continuing to bring this up.
the string ekko is pulling on everytime he relapses back is his kind of blocker. He pulls it and sets a blocker at that exact point of time so he can turn the switch on his wrist and go back to the original point without exceeding that point and accidentally turning himself into a baby.
Watch Lucian and Senna from League of Legends, like this comment so he sees it!!
i like that rim light my boii just gave me an idea for a character im working
There is a behind the scenes video for the Annie video if you want to see how they made it. Its really impressive actually considering its not actually drawn its actually 3D animated
i got goose bumps when he pointed out the mom coming from the bear. That's terrifying lmfao
"It's like animated drawings" - yes that what's animation was about back in a day ;x
I love the detail in your setup
Akame-Ga Kill is a really good anime for anyone who is looking, its the one he mentioned about the bear, loveur work man keep it up!
I love how you react to the tiniest bits 😊
the ending of the first season of Mob Psycho 100 is just like the Annie's animation, watercolored animated. It's really cool
the painting on the wall together with the candles is a shrine to his dead friends, there is a comic of ekko being unable to save the character painted in the middle again and again, its really tragic.
I think that just the pain remains when he returns to the past, like, if his hand gets cut off he would feel but would still having his hand in the past
in the old lore Tibbers(the little teddybear Annie walks around with) was an actual bear.
one more thing - one of her in-game taunts is "scared of a little girl?"
and from that we get the joke: "In Soviet Russia - Little girl chase you".
every time Chris sees a cinematic OMG THAT SICK
xd
ekko has a passive that has a shadow looking thing that follows him. so when he ults/turn back time he will be back to where that shadow thing is.
Light and Shadow is my favorite League cinematic. it changes art styles part way through and is crazy
W O W! i had the same reaction as you Chris... my body feel all the moments
