I put about 15000$ into mine. Personally I don't care. It's all about the experience of just working on a car my dude. Don't worry about it

I bought an old Montero sport for 1200 dollars. Tires timing plugs alternator harmonic balancer radiator..... doesn't matter if you need a ride. Retired and getting in touch with my old skills has given me purpose!

The extra room under the hood must be nice- everything is tight as crap in there with this compact car.

Man, you doing it right though, car hobby cost bit you did and doing it all alone which is impressive. I think I’m $13k into my car I regret it at times but I also don’t know how to do as much as you also DIY wise. Hopefully I’m on your side of the country to see it one day. Sad my avenger never got to go there

Also speaking of the content aspect you said in this video. You have shown a lot about this car that I have never seen anyone ever talk about and how detailed you have been. The 03 GTS is my most favorite car and because of you I've learned things about this car I never knew. Don't stop what you are doing. Not just for you but for someone like me who loves this car more than any other car and for other people that love this car as well

I don't plan to stop anytime soon brother. I just hope everyone still follows along when I have other project cars because 90% of you guys subscribed are all Eclipse guys lol. Of course I love the car, but I can't grow the channel large by just playing with an Eclipse... Need new toys!

That is how much (2500-3000) I was asking for when I was selling my Eclipse with 150k miles on it. Before I got rid of it, I think I was close to 3k (mass flow sensor, EGR valve, new struts, and new tires) in repair costs. Sweet video!

We got a 99 gs ( non turbo) and spent 5 g....love it .About as clean as a convertable you're gonna find. Beautiful paint ,new top ,new head etc but i knew getting it it was gonna need a nip and tuck at 25 yrs old. Alternator bracket lost adjustment, temp fix but taking in,seems to have some blow by but absolutely love it. All used ,and even new cars are gonna need something...remember, If it has tits or tires,YOURE GONNA HAVE TROUBLE WITH IT 😂😂

Yeah all the recalls on the newer cars is ridiculous, and I have seen engines failing well before 100k miles in a lot of the more modern cars. A lot of them are junk, throwaways...

The main thing I see is that this is a car channel which does repairs so maybe its an ideal car for the channel. If a person wanted an Eclipse just as a driver then yes, spend some more money initially & buy one in better shape to avoid all the repairs. Experience gained in the repairs is a big + however, it sometimes comes at the price of ones sanity. I've found myself muttering Why, why Why many a time

Yeah this car about broke me, have literally never had to work on 1 car so much before (and there is still more work to do). But hopefully in the future it will be about a 50/50 split on the channel between working on them and getting to play around with them, instead of the 90/10 split it currently is lol.

@@92kbuilds-mn2lk That does happen to us all at some point. Been there, done that. When I was a young adult I had a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme that was a near new '72 after replacing everything (in a few years) from the motor (replaced with a 275HP & 4 barrel), trans, exhaust, radiator, belts, battery, 2 starters, exhaust manifold front end suspension, tires, and I probably missed a few things. It was pretty fast though for the early 1980's. Also had a Mercury Sable (Fancy Ford Taurus) that I had more in repairs than I paid for the car and all of the electrical gizmos still didnt work and it still didnt run well.

It's not that this car is unreliable or a POS in general, but rather, the complete lack of maintenance by the previous owner(s). I swear all they ever did was change the oil which explains why I am now having to take care of everything else that was completely neglected over the past 21 years and 143,000 miles of it's life. But yeah, I guess that's another positive that I forgot to mention- It'll basically be a brand new car once I'm done with it because everything will be brand new lol.

I bought a nice 05 eclipse for $5k a few years back, definitely overpaid but it has lasted really well and only a few minor things have broken. I want to get some new wheels for it because mine are pretty curbed.

I wish more people did performance stuff with these. There are so many options engine wise that you can do for both v6 and 4 cylinder. This platform is very slept on especially the v6.

Ive been really enjoying your eclipse videos! Just curious where did you learn to do all your repairs? I've done a ton of maintenance/repairs on my 04 RS, but have to replace my water pump. The thing that intimidates me the most is attempting to time the engine since they're interference.

Self taught. I started working on my cars when I was a teen because I couldn't afford to pay the shops to fix them. I had to rebuild the engine in my Camaro when I was 19 not having a clue at all what I was doing. After that, I realized if I could do that then I could do anything. Back then I just got a Haines repair manual and went for it. A lot easier these days now that fast internet is a thing...

I find it better to work on this car yourself, wouldn't trust it with a shop. Some things like the tensioner set up are too particular, requires the care of the owner IMO. I'm about $9000 into my Spyder GT, having done myself: water pump, timing belt, idler pulley, tensioner pulley, hydraulic tensioner, harmonic balancer, power steering belt, valve cover gaskets, intake plenum gasket, spark plugs, spark plug wires, idle air control valve, egr valve solenoid, and new wheels.
