    I saw some UA-camrs criticize this light, but I bought it anyway and really like it. It's great for what it is

    Amazingly detailed and honest review. You're right about UA-cam reviews. It's pretty obvious which folks are stepping lightly to remain in favor with the marketing folks. I appreciate your commitment to being honest.

    I worked for Nanlite, the prices they charge vs unit manufacturing cost would absolutely shock you. They could charge a lot, lot less and still make huge, bumper profits.
    Take the Nanlite Forza 720b as one example, if I told people what it costs to make these units and offset adjustments for labour etc (cost at the manufacturing facility goes down significantly because they're produced in bulk,ndriving unit cost down), as opposed to what they charge? A lot of people wouldn't be too happy.
    Another example might be the Forza 500b ii. They could charge two thirds the current market price and they would still be making over 5.5 times profit above mfr, labor and ancillary costs (marketing, PR, management, etc etc)..

    Hey brutha, your shots kind of have a yellowish green tint to them with the light on. Is that from the light or something else? Also, with your comments on the usb c charging.. I dont think this light is made for actual productions but more for someone getting started and needs a budget option so I feel you may of missed the mark there. But I do agree on the front adapter, granted in order to keep it compact they have to make it smaller.. but they def should have provided a Bowens mount adapter. Even Zhiyun does that with their small lights.

    Hey there, I'm considering this light for an upcoming still shoot in a working lead mine. I need a very portable battery-powered solution because once you're down there, you're down there for several hours with no outlets available. That said, I have two questions: Does this throw enough light (assume that I'll have two at a minimum) in a relatively dark environment? What type of usb-c power bank would you recommend? Your b-roll shows you using one but I didn't see it in the list of gear.

    • @JustinPhillip
      @JustinPhillip  5 місяців тому +1

      Would not recommend. You would need a very powerful USB bank and at that point might as well just invest in a micro V mount such as this: amzn.to/4ccK1XY But the most you’re gonna get out of this light is 45 min., if you’re lucky

    Justin Phillip, have you looked at on-camera lights lately? I'm trying to choose which on-camera light to buy for a specific project. There are night scenes that will be lit hopefully with one light doing a POV on the run. Need the brightest light with the longest throw (diffused). Any suggestions?

    • @JustinPhillip
      @JustinPhillip  11 місяців тому

      I guess the brightest on camera light would be this smallrig light, but you’d have to figure out a way to diffuse it. The other one that comes to mind is the Dash: ua-cam.com/video/nrT5tODjzHo/v-deo.htmlsi=Yt5Qc83c8dQJonkP

    completely agree with the battery situation. If it would have the v mount attachment, I would buy it immediately. Even the mini Bowens would be ok for me, although I would never go for such a eco system. I agree with all your harshness, that's why I subscribed immediately. too many mega positive reviews without the real world draw backs and stupidity that sometimes very prevalent with gear.

      💯 There's other UA-camrs that claimed i "missed the mark" or some nonsense, or they want to defend it and say that "this light isn't targeted towards professionals"....okay well then are they implying that not only myself but they themselves are not considered professionals by smallRig's standards? either way, i appreciate the sub!

  • @qbgabe12

    I kinda get the battery situation - v mount battery is just in general too big and too expensive for small time content creator it is designed for. Power bank is everywhere and familiar

    I have no idea what the readings are on the Aperture Amaran 60D (If you know please do tell) but at least they have an actual Bowens and a barrel connector for 2 NPF’s or wall power, could probably even run a VMount DTap to it. And it works with everything I have for my bigger Aperture Amaran lights.
    This things sounded decent until it got to the “Bowens” and the internal battery… ya nope! 👎🏻

    Yea, but companies can sell more if the attachments are proprietary. Until the consumers stop buying the add-ons, then hopefully we will get an industry standard. But for now, it's the wild wild west of attachments.

    Y you gotta blame marketing tho. 😂How a market need is addressed is engineering. Marketing says “they’ll need to run this for a long time” and it’s engineerings job to come up with the best solution

    I wasn't impressed with the other small rig lights being no different than the Amaran moonlights. But the fact that this has violet in the color mix to inhance the SSI score makes me believe this will be the tweenie equivalent for an LED.
