- The Only Anime to Get Musicians Right - Bocchi the Rock.
I really have enjoyed this anime so far and it did so much right that I wanted to make a quick video on it. It's streaming on crunchyroll right now if you wanted to check it out!

"There hasn't been a member who's too drunk to play", and then ep 6 comes out and we're introduced to a literal drunkard bassist
Brooo fr 💀
This anime has all my favourite stereotypes..
He said "hasn't" and the show give it to him right away
@@aaronyoghurt9210 ask and you shall receive.
It's ALWAYS the bassist
Some Wild and Drunk Random Bassist : "Hold my beer"
Not only did it get musicians right, it got social anxiety right in a way most media fails to do, It's pretty telling how a lot of people think it's extremely exaggerated. It's not. How it's depicted is often pretty close to what it actually feels like. That scene where Bocchi paces in front of the entrance to the club for 10 minutes trying to work up the courage to go in for example really hit home.
I get what you're saying but I'd say it's definitely exaggerated for comedic effect sometimes
Like I'm pretty sure social anxiety doesn't literally turn you to Ash and suffocate the people in the room with you
@@dicklover4203 As the ash who suffocated people, I can vouch that this happens alot
Her thoughts hit close to home too. The way she overthinks on everything she does and what people would think of her.
So much of her connects so much to how I used to be just a year ago
unfortunately I can't remember exactly how I got over it, I think for me it was a philosophical realization about what I want to live for and how i want to live.
As someone who doesn't only suffer from anxiety but it's also a pisces (just like Bocchi), I feel too extremely connected to her, with the sole exception I don't belittle myself and have learnt my worth lol
The only unrealistic thing about Bocchi the Rock is how often the camera man pans over towards the bassist. The bassist gets ample screen time? Unreal man!
It's because the bassist is Ryo and she can bend any rule
@@RinRin72769 It's because her brain is so small you can hear it rattle inside her head.
*That's right. Ryo is not a bassist, but actually a maracas player.*
@@TrogloglationNo she aint a maracas player, SHE IS THE MARACAS

Kids on the Slope is worth checking out if you're into Jazz. They even went as far as to rotoscope hand movements so the animation would be perfectly realistic, and every episode is titled after a Jazz Standard. Truly a masterpiece and a love letter to the genre.

And Hibike Euphonium if you're into wind orchestra.
I’ve read Hamajiaki’s interview in 2019 about her first book of Bochhi the Rock. She mentioned that she only had two interests: comics and bands. But she only listened to bands not playing any kind of instruments , so to draw Bocchi the Rock, she even learned how to play bass and drums and of course sought advice from some friends being in bands.

I highly recommend BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad. Its a really good coming of age story focused on a young guitarist finding his love of music and being in a band. A thematic predecessor to BOCCHI in how accurate it feels to actually make music.
It also has one of the best dubs I've ever heard. Completely dubbing and altering the lyrics of the songs in the anime, so that they actually sound good to English speaking ears.
B:MCS was THE show that got me to start playing rock music.
Beck mcs is amazing, i picked up guitar because of it back in the day, if you havent already, you should read the manga, the anime only covers maybe 1/4 of the whole story and it is a wild ride.
@@erkicman Beck was my final push to start guitar
The sub was hilarious. Having terrible broken engrish singing all while all the characters constantly praise it. Good times.
100% true. And on my side I actually can recommend reading the manga after that because it picks up even more typical things for young musicians such as “too drunk to play the full gig”, the feeling of “predetermine” for some events (like story of Koyuki buying a Fender Mustang) and troubles understanding the differences between “want” and “need” for the band
I love how the show makes a point to differentiate between playing solo and then playing in a band/group. I'm a drummer and my band just recently picked up a new lead guitar who was used to only playing solo. It goes without saying that they learned really quick how different it is. A real Bocchi moment lol
He is below a water flea
Bocchi the rock is damn great but i won't say it's the only anime to get it right, I would say BECK nail how bands and musicians work as well..
Also Kids on The Slope if you are into jazz music..
Vocalists who only do solo performances also struggles when they are in a band.
There are also a difference between streaming a karaoke performance (with amped up vocal effects using a condenser mic) and a live event using a dynamic mic.
yeah i learned that the hard way when i started playing jazz in the conservatory. from playing alone in my bedroom ( everything with my ear too ) to suddenly having to read chord chart and sight read sheet music all while keeping in mind that you can't keep your head buried in the sheet as you have to do interplaying ( response, quote, phrase exchange during solo etc ) and basicaly really play "with" the other musician. i mean i can just go into robot mode and do some walking bass line but without interplaying, you are no better than a backing track.
damn, i need to learn drum too, cant get a drum at home tho
learning guitar on my sisters guitar rn
A little embarrassed to admit this, but this anime inspired me to get back into playing bass again.
nah thats cool
Same I picked up bass cuz of it
Why do you need to embarassed? The team behind this show worked hard on this. Show then some credit.
Got me again into guitar and drums 😂. I even learnt a particular theory about chord due to inspiration
Aw man, that's cool, no need to be embarrassed
This show is so good at animating the instruments I’m often finding myself trying to play alongside them to see if they’re actually getting the playing right.
Needless to say it sometimes takes me an hour to get through a whole episode because of this.
I haven’t felt this connected since k-on
fuwa fuwa time!
yeah because K-On and BTR has same comic magazine
Watch hibike euphonium, it's about a school orchestra, also has accurate animation
K-On actually made me start learning to play guitar haha
@@tbqhwyf thank u for mentioning hibike
Someone hasn't seen kids on the slope. I've been a musician who's studied jazz and played professionally for 25 years. Kids on the slope gets it. Keep in mind that different genres attract different personalities. There is no one size fits all solution to what being a musician is. That said, I've heard good things and I'm really looking forward to watching this. You definitely make it sound enticing.
yea man 👊 get this comment to the top asap
I'm seeing alot of comments like this, maybe the guy hasn't seen many music anime or the really good ones
One of the best anime i've seen and i've watched anime since 2007..
Characters are great, the drama spots on, and the music is phenomenal..
I would also add Beck, Nana, and Hibike Euphonium as well to the list, meaning Bocchi isn't the only anime who nailed the anime music genre..
Would get social anxiety again 10/10 anime, pretty funny
The only good part about suffering from social anxiety is that you can fully enjoy this anime
@@TheEmolano YES 😂 I never thought I'd be happy with it ever, but then bocchi the rock came
depression is not funny.just by watching anime make you self proclaim you had anxiety..
If only it were actually possible to be as cute as Bocchi when having a full on panic attack.
The thing I loved the most is Bocchi learning in 3 years, and not like Yui from Kon or Kasumi from bangdream learning in 3 weeks using the power of friendship and dreams.
The rhythm stuff Kasumi plays is not that difficult. If you are moderately talented, a few months of hard work is possible
Yui is a retard / savant tho.
Also, I love the fact that she wasn't just born a talented guitarist. It would've been so unfair for people who actually trained so hard to master the instrument.
I love how her anxiety is connected to her guitar skills, too. She got that good because she has no friends or clubs and can train for hours a day. Her anxiety isn't just there for flavor.
Honestly, in 3 weeks you can reach Kita’s level at least
@@snailthelostcow63 Yea, but that works out given that kita has been learning for about that long by the time the anime wraps up.
Hibike! Euphonium was a great depiction of band class as a band member through my school years so I would not say only anime. Kids on the slope also depicts musicians rather well also.
I believe what you mean is band group anime.
Your Lie in April is good too
@@IamStrangreen with the level of drama they portray for the characters I wouldn't call it a good depiction of musicians. It is a good show worth watching though.
@@chemislife it's a depiction of tragic ling ling
K-On is also pretty great, tbh
@@chemislife honestly most high school kids starting a band could may as well go through this. I’ve seen few share of popular guitar kids on UA-cam/NicoNicoDouga totally flunked with band lol.
Tho it’s kinda rare to see all high school girl play on a band and had a part time jobs in a live house it did exist.
Since it got less dramatisation on the plot, I felt this is more right in what actual high school rock band go thru.
The part in your lie in April where you stop hearing the music and only see the notes is way to real for me. When I played Violin I had this problem where you could only play the piece as it was "intended" and it took away the soul of the musical pieces.
Ah... literally fixing this right now...
After slacking on my piano practice without the metronome for 9-years, I decided to go complete opposite to mechanically perfect my single hand techniques.
But only now do I realize it completely separated my musicality when joining both hands together, where fast passages will kick me into panic mode, and one hand will dominate the speed and throw the other hand into the fire.
Not saying the metronome way was completely bad; it certainly helped in other crutches, but classical is a very sublime and fluid conjunction of sounds. Best wishes to finding your own happy way to practice.
I saw this a lot in school choirs. Loads of technically brilliant singers with tons of training and no soul.
When I ran auditions for our old a cappella group, the rule was that you had to do your sight reading and all, but you also had to sing one song you just genuinely like. I turned down some amazingly technical singers in favor of the goofballs who just owned their Elvis impression or whatever.
(That's a real story. Great guy, left us for musical theater but usually reserved us tickets.)
damn same, i play trumpet, but i cant play anything if theres no notes
The Band in the anime is even a parody/slash inspired by the J-Rock Band Asian Kung Fu Generation, who sung the OPs of many of the big animes of the 2000s. It's pretty obvious considering that the girls share the last name with the members of that band with the same positions (the Yamada of both bands are the Bassist for example) except for Bocchi kinda, it's the same surname just read differently.
Bocchi and the vocalist DO have the same surname, the romanization is different bc of whatever the translator's preference is (Gotou and Gotoh, the kanji are the same)
Masafumi Gotoh (vocalist and rhythm guitarist) of Asian Kung-Fu Generation
and they even made a cover you were right
Sick Hack is also inspired by a Japanese band 88Kasyo. BRT Hiroi is just like IRL Hiroi fr fr

Being a sparce supply sure is lovely
Man that's a bold statement. The "only" anime? Have you seen Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad, Sakamichi no Apollon, Nana, Nodame Cantabile, Carole and Tuesday? Have you seen every music anime? Are you a musician yourself?
the fact that this is one of the less popular manga of 2017 and now the one of the most popular 2022 anime adaptation is just wow.... meme culture really helps sometimes
Also HOW COULD YOU FORGET ABOUT "K-ON!" KyoAni even animated the hand placements right
To be fair though, they play instruments about every 8 episodes. It's not a music anime as much as a slice of life anime with music in it sometimes
@@caedmonlarson1437 But the amount of effort the studio puts into the music is phenomenal. I also like it that way. It's more realistic.
manga cannot captivate music beats to the point that you can hear the song by just seeing the lyrics. JUST LIKE how kono oto tomare cannot captivate the actual beat but only the emotionsin manga.
Meme culture is a huge influence. They managed to influence politics around the world you know. Even elections!
@@josezonio4820 kono oto tomare is terrible so thats a bad comparisom
"Musicians" means more than "struggling rock band trying to make it." Good shows that get plenty of aspects of "musicians" right: Kids On The Slope, Carole and Tuesday, Ya Boy Kongming, Beck, Nodame Cantabile, and many more.
As a introverted person with social anxiety and general anxiety disorder this show nails how it feels to have it
I don't know Beck actually did a pretty good job. I love how it potrays somebody slowly learning the guitar, falling in love with music and writing his first song. It's a bit oversaturated but most of the time very realistic. I also find the mentor-protege relationship between Yukio and Ray very relatable.
Plus the immersion is pretty great as well..
I like it's intentionally over-satirated quality that it seems to have whilst going over many a heads at the time of it's declaration
As somebody who got into guitar because of beck. Yeah it's actually amazing. There is some cringe in the writing, but it got so much right.
and you forgot the ost, i still listen to some tunes from time to time (slip out is great)
About the member too drunk to play.....ill hold you on that for next episode....
but tis been just such a great anime that is surprising how little people are covering it, it really hits lots of sore spots that make it so relatable at different levels
i had to learn how to play on the spot for my band...
yes, i played bass
You perfectly captured the essence of Bocchi the Rock, and that's epic. Good humor, well paced script, and nice review. I enjoyed listening in.
I definitely wouldn't say the ONLY anime. There are some others like Cantabile, Kids on the Slope, Given, Your Lie in April, Piano no Mori, etc. which even go down to getting the animation accurate when playing the instruments. They also add easter eggs or historical accuracy if its a classical music type anime.
Sound euphonium! It did sound like a take from someone who hasn't seen too many anime, or at least anime about music
I literally watched 15 seconds of a Crunchy Roll clip of the show on YT on Saturday November 12th, stopped the video, immediately went and watched the first episode. With that said, I'm waiting for the episode 7 to air now... The show is hilarious, I love all the visual humor that goes on display throughout each episode. I'm not even into "band life", but I could already tell how true to life the aspects were, I really appreciated the touch of it built into the story. So far I give it a solid 9/10.
"The Only Anime to Get Musicians Right"
-Sakamichi no Apollon has left the chat
This is one of only two instances in my life where a character has mirrored my experiences so well. Bocchi the rock is not the work of genius but of something that's far more difficult to express and that is raw honesty. The author must have some of these experiences themselves and they had the courage to share them with the world.
Some anime that get musicians right:
- Beck Mongolian Chop Squad
- Kids on the Slope
- Carole & Tuesday
- K-On!
- Paripi Koumei
Have you seen Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad? It's an old anime/manga from the early 2000's and Bocchi is basically Beck + K-On + Komi Can't Communicate. It's slower and more serious but it's also a great musical anime.
I've been watching it a bit on and off. It's really good and I hope I can finish it soon!
i was about to talk about beck, and thank God you did it first, i mean of course its my opinion, but i dont think that bocchi rock its the only anime that get musicians right, for me it was beck and in some kind, K-On, also Kids on Slop its pretty acurate
Thank god, somebody opened it up. Yeah Beck Mongolian Chop Squad for me is still the reigning king. I've been waiting for another anime thats like Beck but so far nobody created it. Its one of the animes that either deserve a remake in this era or they can go ahead and make a season 2. For christ sake, if you continue in the manga further. Koyuki has new songs and new singles and they made it to America. Btw. the manga is already completed they should create a season 2.
I have to add that the live action movie is a thing of pure genius.
@@snowcatasmr9437 i agree
Why is she literally me, a self conscious person he became a musician to become more social, who calculates and thinks about what could go wrong with every situation
I found this anime just before the 4th episode aired and started writing a thorough episode by episode review on my blog, as I am also a newbie guitarist with my own rookie anime cover band. I've rated all the other music animes I've seen, and a lot of them lost points for having a beginner guitarist become pro in like 3 months, or them failing during rehearsals but somehow nailing a solo on stage and such like....that doesn't happen. So far, I do really appreciate that they gave Bocchi decent time to learn guitar, and a lot of things I've seen in the show are things I've experienced or what seem normal among musicians. I have high hopes for this anime and I'm excited to see where it goes ^_^
walking into a room with a gig bag and expecting everyone to give attention is the most relatable thing
I've found myself STRONGLY relating to this anime in regards to both Bocchi's anxiety and the music aspects.
Since I'd heard Joe Pass' record "Meditation" when I was 13, I've been OBSESSED with becoming a Jazz guitarist. I'm 18 now, and I'd call myself decent, but when I tried to join a band for the first time recently my nerves hung up on me so badly I left the audition after strumming a single chord.
My new goal is to join a Jazz band by next year, and this anime is really inspiring me to practice and to seek real experience.
Good luck!
Sorry if this is stuff you already know but... if you can, find a big band, I'm a bit biased having played in big bands since I was in 9th grade but it's a great way to learn some history and get the language figured out before branching out into combos. Working with a director also makes a huge difference.
Even if you aren't going to uni for music, schools with jazz programs likely will let people from outside the program audition for extra curricular big bands, also look for community out reach bands, it's usually pay to play model but likely worth while.
I'm super excited for you, I remember how much fun that time in my musical journey was so I wish you all the best!

Hi, senior in university here-studying jazz guitar. If you're looking for safe spaces to play, but still getting a good experience, community college jazz combos/bands are a really great resource to check out. Even playing for ensembles such as jazz choirs can be valuable experience and networking (some of my gig work involved working for singers and it's generally quite low stress and pays okay).
You've got plenty of time ahead of you to work out your chops and confidence so don't be too down on yourself. It goes without saying but finding a mentor in the jazz world can do wonders too-can be a teacher/professor/more experienced player and they can maybe even get you rolling out to some jam sessions or whatnot.
@@kwonza-gamingandanime5727 I'm in a STEM focused uni at the moment, but there are plenty of music schools here I could try to network with.

As a musician, I feel compelled to see this anime now. It's on my list now.
You lost me at “the only anime”, but I appreciate your points!
The anime that made me think of musicians was BECK. It has pretty good originals too
THANK YOU for covering this anime! I didn't know about it and as a professional musician, I'd love to see more anime about bands and the music scene. I got 2 episodes into Your Lie in April and couldn't go any further because OOF, it was too real to my classical upbringing and why I left. haha
Can't wait to watch this! :D
Apart from Yui learning guitar in like 3 weeks, I also think K-ON gets it right. Both two different scenarios, but we also see Yui express herself through learning an instrument.
Also, Hibike Euphonium. Yes that's a concert band scenario, but it just about nails it. The story & the quality of the animation (including playing the instruments) is so finessed. Then there's just Beck, which is a whole other level. I think Bocchi the Rock is extremely accurate but it's also a very specific scenario, as is Hibike and K-ON.
Well, Yui spent those 3 weeks just learning chords, which isn't too far fetched. And you also find out she naturally has perfect pitch, which does actually gives more of an advantage to learning an instrument than you might think.
@@wandering4104 she also had a lesson or two with Sawa-chan iirc
yui is just built different
the exact comment i was looking for
first guitar being a gibson les paul cannot be real. I think bochii portrayed what starting guitar is like. I first started on my dads guitar too. Yuis first performance is just not one of a one month player. And she basically doesn't have any improvement through her highschool years. K-on is more slice of life than bochii but that doesn't mean its worse.
kids on the slope and BECK mongolion chop squad says hi :D
I think this show might hold the title for most instant replays of certain scenes/whole episodes for me. And then go back to some episode, replay Bocchi's in the zone moment of the episode, then watch it whole again, then go to another... It's chaotic and it makes me happy. I absolutely *love* this show. More people need to watch it.
I'm glad I found this in my algorithm ❤️ I was looking for some anime like K-on and Beck Mongolian Chop Squad
I do love this anime to bits. Not my favourite music anime, (as for my tastes, Carole and Tuesday and K-ON simply can’t be beat), but it is so much fun and adorable, which is the best kind of fun

don't wanna dismiss BTR being a proper representation of musicians but no way it's the "Only Anime".
No anime gets musicians right? You have Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad (for rock), Hibike! Euphonium (for concert band) and Kids on the Slope (for jazz) right there!
I'd also argue, while not on the whole, Carole & Tuesday gets a lot right too. It's just a different side of it all.
I defiantly wouldn’t say only.
As a percussionist and bassist. Its defiantly one of the best in its field. But even K-On! Has correct hand placements and strumming. And then you got something like Your Lie In April, where again finger placements are flawless.
And as a school band kid, Hebike, Euphonium hits it golden for me.
I agree with euphonium, im a bari player so that solo got me jumping in my room. However fingerings for k-on were less accurate. On yuis solo at the start of season 2 her fingering was off for the first chord (Bb7). Her pointer should have been on the low e string. Bochii also incorporated more techniques and tech like drum setup mics, real mic models, effect pedals, and animated bends and quick riffs. Also don't forget about the slide solo. Those are things k-on lacked. Also, I see you do percussion, look at kids on the slope and the drum animation will be way too eye candy.
@@APOLLO_PRINT The fact that K-on only really has a couple mishaps in a shows that hardly even about playing music is pretty good on its end. I wouldn't ever expected k-on to go deep into technique, cause its not a show about the actual music. its a cute girls do cute things show.
I'll defiantly check out Kids on the Slope. thanks for the recc
@@chloedegurechaff1941 Thats a very good point. I really liked K-On and in terms of my top 10 its above bochii. But if I rated music anime bochii would be on top. K-on was more a slice of life, a really good slice of life.
Bocchi also hits the nail on the head with its other primary subject matter: social anxiety. I feel like it hits this perfect sweet spot of having parts that are realistic enough for a lot of us to relate to and others that are exaggerated for comedic effect, and it works so well
Another music anime that folks might like is Carole and Tuesday.
Great video! Good that Bocchi is getting some love!
Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad
As a band nerd I definitely need to watch this anime, but it's a bit extreme to call it the only anime to get music right. My personal favorite, sound euphonium, really nails the emotional aspect of being in a concert band, as well as how each musician is on their own journey with their own complicated motivations while still being part of a collective whole. If you haven't seen it, it's by kyoani and it's a certain must watch for anyone that likes music in my opinion. It is a bit slow, and I'd understand if someone wouldn't find it their thing, but it's certainly a worthwhile journey.
Ey. I just commented this. Totally agree. It’s just captures that feeling perfectly.
"somebody else in a different band who wants to talk to you about all of your gear" holy shit dude shots called banked and sunk
I can’t wait for season 2! I originally got into and picked up the guitar back in 2009 because of K-On! But until recently I sort of stopped playing or lost interest in the guitar a lot but thanks to Bocchi the Rock, I’ve got energy and motivation to keep playing!
Will you cut your string and play with that jar 😏😏
Carole & Tuesday was really good.
I agree. Carole & Tuesday isn't exactly "realistic", being that it's set on Mars in the future, but It does manage to capture that feeling of coming into oneself as a musician.
honestly I thought of bocchi as the k-on at home kind of anime but now hearing that it tackles social anxiety and the musicians themselves makes it resonate a ton with me and my personal journey these past couple of years
Have you heard of Nana? Imo it's the most realistic music anime ever that no one's heard about. Crazy good writing and characters.
I like that the more anxious she gets, the less detailed her face/body gets
I absolutely adore the main cast. Nijika and Kita are very endearing, of course, but I can relate to Bocchi so much and Ryo is literally me.
What is good about Bocchi the Rock
First time introduced by this moe and Band genre, all I can think of is K-ON stuff
But after watch first Episode.... that's a whole different things that make you clearly things K-ON isn't focus of Living as a Band (because K-ON doing band things as Extracurricular)
while Bocchi is serious in the band live part, also interesting how introvert getting through of her dream as guitarist, then the experiment's of many animation stuff going in and out each episode truly something different you'd get but still enjoyable.
Clearly this is your first anime centered around music.
As someone who managed a live house surprisingly they got The noruma (quota) system in live house and how the live house is on other business permit just to avoid high cost of actual entertainment permit right.
Tbh we rarely do audition since most band that wanna have a gig already did have quite a following on SNS.
They even got the crummy feel of the basement live house right lol.
I definitely agree. The anime does do a very good job in depicting aspects of being a musician and even social anxiety. However, I do think it’s a stretch to say it’s the only anime to do it. K-on, Beck, kids on the slope, etc.
I mean Hibike! Euphonium is another great anime, generally the fingerings, and slide positions are correct as I'm a baritone, trombone, clarinet, alto, and bari saxophone, and trumpet player. It has show bands, aka the one part where they act as a marchinig band, and have concert band competitions for Japan down very well. Their concert band competitions are very competitive, and their marching bands are also very competitive. However you are right, this anime does get the smaller ensemble bands down to a T.
I still think that Mongolian Chop Squad is definitely the most accurate music anime (or at least it’s definitely my favourite)
As someone who is more of a jazz musician I can recommend Kids on the Slope as another anime that does really well at portraying musicians and what its like to go from being on your own to playing with a band. A great show if you haven't watched it yet.
Am I a joke to you -Kids on the Slope
BTR is amazing tbh and probably one of my favorite music animes of all time. I know that Given is very drama and romance focused, but i feel that it also deserves a special mention somewhere. It's the only music anime that has perfectly nailed emotional expression through music and episode 9 is honestly a work of art. It also perfectly represents the different dangers and complexities that come with non-platonic relationships in bands and honestly handles it really well. It's definitely a heavier watch than BTR but it also has a lot of feel-good and slice of life moments that are to die for.
Bocchi reminded me what it was like to be a highschooler who wants to be a musician. The excitement of your first show, seeing all these strange older people that seem super cool. Figuring out how to play music together. This show nails it. I can tell the author loves music
Actually hitori reminds me with most of metal singers. They have lot commons like introverted personality. Like James heitfeld from Metallica, in his one interview he said he's really not into social life and he express he's feeling through music. And some research also stated that metal fans intended to be introverted people
This show came into my life at the right time. I'm just now getting back into music after 6 years and pursuing it through the local community college. This show has really increased my overall excitement for what the future has to hold. And my dreams of actually traveling abroad one day are re ignited as college was really the only barrier for getting a visa for an extended stay in many of the countries I'm interested in. I hope everyone is getting along well in their lives!
Thanks for sharing this! I normally only look for dubs on Crunchyroll but recently watched Beck (Mongolian Chop Squad) and really liked seeing the progression of experience. Really excited to watch Bocchi the Rock! Also, following. 👍
Mm, not only, there are many others masterpiece like Kids on the slope o Your lie in april that are 100% accurate with the animation
This is easily the best SOL anime of this season if not the year. I love every single thing about it and the music is fire!! Too bad it came out in the heaviest season where there are so many big names just as you mentioned, but this still turned into my top 5 shows of this season despite that.
And the fact that it comes out late at night in my timezone is a big plus because I always cool down my brain by watching this show before going to bed (after SpyxFamily which is also a light-hearted show).
Ahem. DIY is also available.
@@snowcatasmr9437 Not even close. DIY is my least favorite SOL of this season. Encouragement to The Crimb is still much better, IMO.
Dude, everyone hyped me so much Chainsaw Man, then I saw it and I didn't even like it. Here comes Bocchi The Rock, which I just stumbled upon by searching for a new anime to watch while being bored, and it has probably become my favorite anime of the year.
Also, the animation is just sooo creative. It definitely tops Mob Psycho 100's and is on par with Pop Team Epic's
In Anitrendz Bocchi literally obliterated the list lol, even beating those big titles like CSM, SxF, Bleach, and Mob Psycho III. Even Bocchi herself is the #1 girl on this week's list and the other band members (minus Kita sadge) are also in the top 10
"This is the only anime that gets musicians right"
Sound Euphonium - Am I a Joke to You?!
there is another band anime called K-on!, its already started since 2009. my first inspiration to play guitar (and got myself Les Paul as beginner lol). but what you say "Get musician right", i must agree Bocchi The Rock more to musician realistic. while K-on! have not too much struggle only "cute girl do cute thing".
well, i would love to see you review K-on! too. keep uploading!! 👍👍
the only anime??? clearly you've never seen kids on the slope. its so good and has a heavy focus on accuracy in the musical parts. def reccomend.
what about Beck? I mean i'm not a muscian myself but a pretty good story about a kid who is introduced to western rock, ends up learning guitar, and eventually joins a band. I like it's mix between i guess japan and western culture. It's not like any other anime I've seen it just has a different feel. Also has some really good osts by Beat Crusaders. 👌I was really excited for this anime, especially since it's inspired by Asian Kung-Fu Generation! That band and Beck are what got me into music and learning guitar myself.
That is THE music anime.
As some other commenters described, BECK is a very gritty, very adult, and almost dragging in story-pacing narrative of what it feels like when young adults enter the band INDUSTRY with no money, sparse connection and support.
Bocchi OTOH is more about high schoolers doing school-scale performances and using individual recording to reach online audiences. Just very era, different career approaches, and technology differences.
@@forgotultag1543 yeah true, bocchi is more modern, like how gotoh gained recognition online, while beck they had to do it just by performing
BECK is a perfect example of the rock music genre in the late 90s to early 2000s.
And Bocchi is a great example of the rock music genre now.
(Also BECK is my favorite anime of all time)
As a drummer, I can confirm, the mere mention of my ability to hit things with sticks, to someone in a band almost always leads to a request if I would be willing to fill in some time.
Bocchi is shaping to be an amazing music anime, and I'm glad others mentionned Beck which is a level on its own
Now everyone say it with me
Just because an anime isn't 100% realistic doesn't mean it "didn't get musicians right"
After all it's a show and an animated one at that, it'd be stupid to only appreciate it if it's completely real compared to real life, especially when most entertainment is designed to allow people to escape reality for a bit and have fun.
I’m really glad I decided to watch bocchi, it’s great.
There are so many great anime about musicians, though? Beck is also about a rock band, so is Legend of Black Heaven, Carole & Tuesday about singer-songwriters, Those Snow White Notes about the shamisen, Kids on the Slope about jazz, Kono Oto Tomare! about the koto, Detroit Metal City, Nodame Cantabile... you get the idea.
I love this show. Main character is relatable for me in some parts, I'm not that sociophobic guy, just hard to communicate with. And when I thought that's where my connectionsvwith her ended, my parents gave me an electric guitar of their friends. Now I'm trying to get better at it, my fingers are still soft
How about BECK? The Mongolian Chop Squad!
This anime caught my eye through the social anxiety aspect of the story and honestly it's a similar story of its portrayal. It's surprisingly accurate and realistic, while also sparing the viewer the deeper details in order to make the story more interesting and easier to watch. As an outsider to the world of musicians, I hadn't picked up on its accuracy, but it's cool to know that its covered all its bases, because I'm really liking Bocchi so far.
there was also kids on the slope which was pretty good
I actually think that Given gets some good/realistic points too. Though it is mostly seen as a bl/Yaoi, music is a core part of it. There’s things like how easily a band can break up due to relationship problems. There is also some pretty deep stuff in that anime, made me cry for almost an hour after watching(and I have never cried to a movie or show before hand)!
Either way you should check it out if you haven’t, it’s about moving on from a dark time, music, and GAY!
PS: the music in the anime is AMAZING!!!
I've been scrolling like 5 minutes ,hoping to see a mention of Given. Though it is more of a drama/ romance focused show, it handles the musical part of it pretty well. What I love most is the almost perfect animations of both gear and intruments, and the soundtrack is just amazing! Centimillimental really did do a great job with each track.
To be honest the anime "Beck the Mongolian chop squad" gets musicians perfect as well
Mate, this is a very well-put-together video and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope you continue to make great videos like this and attract a huge audience. Keep it up!
I dont know why I found this vide, it has appeared randomly, I wasn't interested in anime before and probably won't be after, but I just clicked and its probably turned my life into other road xd
I gained big motivation to practise guitar more and finaly bought that soundcard for my feature bedroom covers
Thanks for sharing
It took me 35mins to re-find your video. I am autistic, I grew up with musicians, performed publicly for mediocre funds, had fun along the way. Every single character in "Bocchi the Rock" reminds me of many friends I have made, and lost along the way. I love this anime, and its great to see someone else see for what it is, and put into words i wanted to say to explain it.
I'm going to use this video to show my friends how great this anime is, thank you for making some of my thoughts and feelings into light
I relate so much to bocchi that it hurts yet inspires me, to be better than i am today
You remind me that i need to try to make a name for myself so i can branch out and collab with like minded cool people on social media.. but its not easy
i wouldn't say _only._
but, yeah, amazing underrated anime.
That was a great recommendation, thank you! I'll definitely check it out. Sidenote: That's a Steinberg UR22 (Mk1) interface, not a Scarlet. Same price though, so your point still stands.
*cough* your lie in april *cough*
This is me. Literally me. No other character can come close to relating to me like this. There is no way you can convince me this is not me. This character could not possibly be anymore me. It's me, and nobody can convince me otherwise. If anyone approached me on the topic of this not possibly being me, then I immediately shut them down with overwhelming evidence that this character is me. This character is me, it is indisputable.
okay, bocchi chan please get back to earth now.. eheheh 😅
he says: "this is the first ever anime to get musicians right!"
he means: "social anxiety"
You sold this anime for me, excited to watch it as a musician myself!
It’s really nice reading the manga too, because they’ll have a big panel that mimics an album cover.
Kinda reminds me of how jojo poses are just mimicking fashion magazines.
