    Those dress patterns are exactly what I wore all throughout the 60s - hats and gloves included! I also wore black patton or mahogany leather Mary Jane’s with white lace trimmed socks….. I FROZE to death most of the time and constantly felt like my rear end was on display, regardless of my matching panty covers or not!!
    In the early 70s when I was in middle school, I begged for jeans or pants of any kind……and haven’t looked back since!! I have consistently worn pants from 1972 to 2024 every single day. Even my jammies are pants. I rarely wear a dress….. matter of fact, I think I only own 2 that I wear once a year (Easter & Christmas - to church and straight back).

      Ok but for real that dress appears to be for a very young child. I don't understand letting a child dictate things. If any of my kids asked me not to provide them with clothing the way I have chosen to provide for them I would remind them that while I give them some room for choices in clothing styles and colors they will get what I choose to provide. If it's hand me downs, it's hand me downs. If it's hand made it's hand made.

      @@mrsmack5808 I understand if it's about saving money. Then you will have to explain to them that hand-me-downs and outlet sales and handmade garments are simply the cheapest solutions to choose from for your family.
      But if it's just because the idea of letting your child choose if they wanna wear handmade versus storebought outfits, and you know you can provide them both just fine, then I just don't see the problem here? There are plenty of other ways we can set boundaries and rules with children. I'd let the kids tell me their opinion, at least, if they have one. Could you explain why you feel this way? I'm interested to know. 🙂

    • @stress395
      @stress395 6 місяців тому

      If your on a budget that makes sense, however if you have the resources to allow for it, I don't see the problem with allowing a child to figure out their own personal style? Obviously if something goes wrong/looks out of place I doubt the mother would just allow it, but for the most part allowing a child, with their own thoughts and feelings, a bit of selective freedom will help in the future. @@mrsmack5808

      Wow that's amazing to have kept one amazing item for so long. I have had such a hard life and started over so many times I could have never kept one special thing like that, however, it is mostly because of my mother that my life has been so difficult that way, so I guess perhaps her parenting has something to do with the inability to have such a treasure as well. I'm sure your mother gave you security and a good safe home to grow up and make your life from so that you could be stable and able to keep such treasures safe all your life. My mother did have a hope chest she was keeping for me but she got angry and tore it apart with a heavy tool and then passed away very young at only 51 years old, which I think is due to her not having her daughter's in her life, which was a choice she made by the way she chose to live. I sometimes wish things could have been so, so different. 😢

    Omg I want to do this so bad when I have babies, and the fact she asked her momma to make a dress is so touching!! (Plus the design u picked is so cute for a little girl!!)

    This is absolutely gorgeous. I'm sure She'll learn to appreciate her moms amazing sewing skills more and more as she ages with periods of being a typical kid and thinking ew no mom. But she'll come back I'm sure. Retail couldnt capture the love and tailoring you put into that outfit. And nothing beats a houndstooth its such a stylish and timeless print. ❤

    Great work! I used to make my daughter’s “special” clothes or things that I thought up & designed myself. I have to confess though that 90% of them were in stretch fabrics & a few times I made stuff for her cousins or friends (especially when I knew they really liked them & they couldn’t be bought!) I used an overlocker quite a bit which makes it much quicker too.
    I got a lot of joy from it when I had the time to do it!
    Also the houndstooth suit- I would happily wear myself if it was bigger! (- the hat!😂) ♥️😎✌️

    I grew up in 80s and early 90s and my grandparents and great grandparents and other relatives would sew me dresses and many where very vintage and old fashioned looking and sometimes was embarrassing but I look back at my school pictures with good memories big collars and all. I love your outfits and what you made for your daughter and wish I could sew that well. I buy my vintage dresses now and you make me want to try my hand at sewing clothes again. You're absolutely beautiful inside and out.

    When i was a child, my mom sewed her own clothes and would make me clothes with the same material. I LOVED IT!!!!! I was so proud and still remember how I felt when we wore coordinated outfits. I helped her and learned to sew by her side. Don't change!
