I got this implants and bio modifications that I need for work and to function daily in life, without it I cannot access my online accounts, or even function, just like a prosthetic robotics arms, nanobots would be part of daily life.
I even got some servers to work with my biomicro-chips, without it I would have hard time remembering modern 24 long passwords with characters, numbers, and symbols, even OTP/Multi-Auth is an implant.
When the technology gets really advanced that’s when it’s scary, when or if we do eventually get the chance to explore the stars for example, human kind, and the human race will be changed forever, probably looking more like the Borg from Star Trek than actual human beings, sad, horrifying but exciting all at the same time. I just can’t make up my mind if it’s actually good for us or not, but that seems to be where we are going, no stopping or slowing down, no rewind possible.
It's a good thing imo, human only live for 120 max, but mixing your consciousness and body with a cyborg could bring you into 1k years with maintenance and constant replacements of your augmentations. Space is very huge even with faster-than-light travels it could take hundreds of years to go in another galaxy or even solar system.
@component29 humanity is mostly made of emotions like friendship/love/courage/hate/fear, etc. And being civilised, we would still have those, etc. Like in sci-fi cyberpunk or Star Trek movies, humanity is still there. But life and problems would be so complex, like how ancient world cannot keep up or live in the modern one, so is the modern one in the futuristic world. What would we lose is very important for old cultures and religions like death and diseases.
Its also worth noting that almost every major technological advancement has changed humanity forever. From the discovery of fire, to the switch to agriculture and from the written word to the printing press, to the internet, to the smartphone, from religion to germ theory and evolutionary theory. All of these are just a few examples of how humanity has discovered or created something that causes a leap that humanity can't or won't go back from. So if I am being honest, I don't find the change scary, if anything I am worried about how certain modern day actors, who I will not name, will make use of this technology.
