X4 Foundations: 7.10 Beta 4 - The terran fleet, better known as Asgard smash

  • Hello everybody,
    So, just like last time, the target is a very well protected defence station in Familly Tkr, the race fleet is terran.
    Fleet composition:
    1 Asgard
    3 Syn + 3 Osaka on bombard for commander
    2 Tokyo + 40 Kalis each on intercept
    1 Honshu + 20 interceptor Katana + 20 torpedo Falx
    *using torpedo launchers is my only compromise to my race specific ships/tech policy for my fleets. Well, a semi compromise, since the terrans can produce torpedoes, just did not get the hang of those pesky launchers. :P
    And I did test every ammo under the sun, to stay pure terran, but nothing came close to torpedoes to give M ships anti capital capability.
    Conclusions:
    - ofcourse, Asgard smash...or in other words...the biggest reason to buy the CoH DLC. Note, my Asgard is a heavy modded one, with annihilator mode on the "death ray". The thing about the Asgard is that it just steamroll any opposition consisting of capital ships, while having just 2 weaknesses, first the vulnerable engine, that can be taken out by large enough swarms or a lucky graviton turret shot, second any small craft firing at it can prevent it from going to travel drive, and if you have swarms around you, distant targets take a really long time to reach.
    - having the Asgard as a battering ram against capitals, mean that the terran fleet don't need to use S/M bombers that much, except for emergencies, like a K is about to blow up the aux ship, your Asgard lost its engine and you are taking fire from a diving K above, or your dimwit destroyers, once again decide the throw away any distance andvantage (like can be seen in the clip, still happen after all the "improvements"). Not needing S/M bombers to take out capitals, means no need for interceptors to put themselfs in harm way, to protect the bombers, like the brave fishies from my boron fleet test prior.
    - the annoying thing about having fleet combat in areas around defence stations, is the fact that it effectively deny interceptor cover for your fleet, because your interceptors will follow their targets under the turrets of the stations, engage drones there, and die in mass as a result. That is the reason for my fancy move to position orders for the aux ship, and all carriers having their fighters under docked condition, as long as the target station is up.
    - like I said, since the terrans don't need to have interceptors to protect bombers, the casualties for the terran fleet were very low. I think I lost maybe 2 Katanas... I could not really check, since after the recording stoped, because I run out of space, I also got a "game has encountered an error and need to close". :P
    So, like I said in other occasions, the terran fleet is about the most OP race fleet the player can field in X4. Can be boring as a result, but when you really want to smash all and any opposition....make sure you buy the CoH DLC, you pay for the ticket, but you get to stay in front. :D

    Honshu is such a nice support&drone(!) carrier❤

    I hate Asgards. When playing as Terrans it is equivalent to easy difficulty, then playing as other factions I hate those Asgard intervention fleets that mess up my plans.

      Yeah, this is how it feels when the player decide to use an Asgard: ua-cam.com/video/gIrLt8d2KKE/v-deo.html 😅
      I also remember back in the day when intervention Asgards were just invulnerable OOS and I had to teleport IS or just straight up destroy the thing myself, to keep it from taking out the last xenon sector left in the game. 🤕 At least now the OOS calculations are somewhat balanced and large xenon forces, like I have, will take it out.
      And even now, I must take all the plot decisions that prevent terrans from going to war with other factions, because Asgard lead intervention fleets just stomp the factions forces, if at war.

    Fleet? What fleet? You need 1 Asgard modded + a few interceptors.

      Well, those few interceptors must be well above 40 in number, like the boron fleet clip shown, those interceptors would need one or two carriers base for repairs (the Asgard cannot repair a single fighter), that/those carriers would be vulnerable to Ks travel drive ambushes, and the Asgard is not that easy to turn around and move at speed if Ks are attacking from multiple directions.
      I do have a second Asgard with 2 Tokyos + fighter complement following it, but I did not use it here exactly for the reasons mentioned above, I can't react fast enough with the Asgard in case of Ks attacks on the carriers. The Asgard + Tokyos fleet is suited to guard a xenon gate, this is actually what I used it for, but is not suited to take on a core xenon sector.

      @@ragnos28 That is actually a thinking around carrier based strategies. I am not sure currently how this works, but you might remember i mentioned under your videos i am a destroyer/capital bombardement type of fan, what i did in the past is have a cloud of capitals and keep a group of interceptors away from them. Usually the xenon swarm goes into the cloud of capitals, already struggling due to precision AA, then the interceptors roll in to clear them up.
      That worked with some manual witty execution very effectively until the last time i played the game in open universe. But your logic makes sense, i just nowhere near used these carrier based strategies (i kind of played it, but preferred battleship / destroyer strategies).

      @@ResistjkYeah, that is also a vulnerability of fleet I made consisting of 1 Colossus E with 30 bomber Eclipse followed by 4 xenon H: ua-cam.com/video/nYbaU_j5v8Y/v-deo.html
      My logic was, the bombers on the Colossus will be the anti capital force, the drones from the xenon Hs will be my interceptors. Great in theory, until I was near a gate, a K droped in and it took out one of the Hs before I was able to react, and I lost it, and we cannot build Hs...so I had to reload because the definitive 7.0 bump up the H boarding dificulty to 1.600 boarding defence strength.

    Can you sell Asgards to other factions? Will they use it in their fleet?

    • @ragnos28
      @ragnos28  Місяць тому +1

      You can, but they will just move it to a shipyard to scrap it.
      The best you can do is to sell it, while surrounded by hostile of the faction that you want to seel it to (ex. sell to argon, while surrounded by split).

    You had to take over Tokyo and let fleet do their job. Its more like Asgard in player's hands showcase rather than Terran fleet work 😉I don't stand for no Asgard in the fleet at all, but it should be AI controlled.

    • @ragnos28
      @ragnos28  Місяць тому

      Letting an Asgard under AI control, is like letting a chimp operate a tank...you know is not gonna end well. 😅
      And I can't stand the Tokyo, is the ugliest carrier in the game, the asymetric shape scratch my retina, I don't want to be seen driving one. 😅
