A little add-on to all the gamers: I record my minecraft videos in OBS, and got the message about the frame rates not matching. I couldn't figure out the answer from this video, but he was talking a lot about what the camera settings were for people shooting stuff with actual cameras. So i thought i would check the "camera" i was using = OBS! Went into settings and found out that is was set to 60! :D I dont know if 60 is the way to go for minecraft videos, im new to this editing stuff.
60 tends to be a good move for gaming (or even higher than that for high action games!) because you want to see the details and you don’t necessarily want to reproduce a true-to-life motion blur 👍
If I shoot mostly in 24 fps with a few slow motion clips at 120, would using a 24 fps timeline be 9k? Should I say yes to change the 120 gos clips to match the timeline? That’s what I’ve been doing but wasn’t sure.
This is what i wonder the most, so i shot a short film on 50fps because they said i would have more options while editing. But i want to convert it to 24fps because i want the ''film look.'' The problem is, i need to have some clips running on 50 fps in the SAME timeline because i need to add some slow motion effects to some clips\ takes; because, using 50fps on slow- mo takes would be much easier. So... How can i have a 50 fps video and a 24 fps video in the SAME timeline? Is that even possible? Or should i render my slow- mo needed clips on different timeline and then add the rendered clip to the OG 24fps timeline later on? Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the tutorial, but I didn't get a message asking me to change my frame rate. I screen recorded in 240 fps, and it looks super low quality and choppy. What should I do?
Do you need your screen recording to be in 240 fps? That is a lot, like super slow motion levels of fps. That can be really tough to playback and could be what is causing the choppiness.
have you ever seen a 29.97FPS clip get imported into resolve at 15fps? if i change it to 29.97 in clip attributes it plays at 2x speed but the audio stays the same. this keeps happening with my Insta360 One R Footage and i have no clue why.
Can anyone help please? I'm not sure what happened to my project, but from 1 second to another my video became "to quick". Both on a time line and even in media pool. It looks like frames reduced. But why would they in media pool. It's not the speed of video, its not the speed of playback. Audio is ok. I think what happened is I have accidentally changed keyboard language, but kept pressing same keys for an English keyboard and god knows what I have activated. I'm a little confused. If I want the look of my timeline to be 30 frames per second but I want to do a slow motion shot with one of my clips you always get told to shoot in minimum of 60 frames per second. But as soon as you put t on to the timeline it converts to 30 ....so how do I get that not to be so.
So i created a timeline in 24fps using 60fps videos. after switching back to 60 fps when exporting there are small clips of frames that arent fully there/ blacked out. any idea on how to fix this?
im having an issue where i load in a clip, not all, but some, and the audio becomes out of sync with the clip, and im assuming its because the clip is of a different frame rate. I have played the clip back outside of davinci though, and its completely fine though. So im trying to figure out if this has to do with the timeline frame rates, the clip frame rates bringing it in, or if its a bug. I have also tried to use this clip in another video editing software and its coming out perfectly fine
You missed a little bit on the Vertical "shorts" 1080x1920. (or this is just a different way.) once you do that you will want to select a Resolution that fits the screen better but it has trade off's. I go to File, New time line. that brings up a similar window. I then go to the bottom left and uncheck the box "Use Project Settings. Go to Format. There I change it to 1080x1920 in the custom box's then go to Timeline Frame Rate I jack mine up to 60fps that's what I record in. Then I change the "Mismatched Resolution" from "Scale entire image to fit " to "scale full Frame with crop". This cuts a little off the sides but allows for better viewing on a phone.
Can you tell me why I no longer get that notification? So if I shoot something in 60fps and import to a 24p timeline I do not get the notification saying that my clip frame rate is different than my timeline frame rate. It used to but doesn’t anymore. And when I click on clip attributes it says my 60fps video is set to custom 22fps
Hi! Thank you for the video. If I have a lot of different framerates for example 25, 29.97 and 24. I wonder which one should I choose for my project settings? I want to use the clips in one timeline.
Don't know about 2 years ago, but if you're using version 18, Yeah, you can bring it up. It'll create copied frames though, meaning a 30 will use 2 frames for every 1 at 60. So your buddy's iPhone footage won't be as smooth as your Sony camera.
The problem I have is mixing phone and camera footage. I'm in Australia, we shoot PAL which is 25fps, and the mobile phone manufacturers all shoot in 30fps. One way or the other, the final mix has some smooth and some jerky. I believe there is no fix for this. Can you confirm.
Lucky for you, I cannot confirm that 👍 there is an app called filmic pro (14.99 unfortunately) that gives you pretty complete control over your phone camera. Definitely worth looking into for this and it will help shoot better video from your phone in general!
@@GerritHarding Thank you. I will check it out. Open Camera also allows you alter the frame rate, but it doesn't appear to lock in and drifts a bitr - only way I can explain it. I use an android phone, and rarely shoot video, mainly because of the jitter problem. I would shoot more if I could get a steady 25/50 fps. Thanks again.
Question, how to adjust the framerate in the fusion page inside the davinchi resolve 17, when i playback video in the fusion page it lag and break between but i didnt face any of this problem when i'm in edit page or any other page. - how to solve this?
Is there going to be any interpolation and, consequently, any frame loss if I change 60fps in clip attributes to 30fps, then put the clip on the 30fps timeline, and speed it up to 200% (to get the normal speed instead of slo-mo)? I plan to shoot at 60fps and then make some clips (not all) in slo-mo.
Why would you use a playback speed of 60 fps or 15 fps to playback 30 fps footage? Wouldn't you just use 30 fps? Sorry but don't understand that section of the video, could you please explain? 🙏
Does timeline resolution impacts video quality if they don't match up before rendering ?? Can i set project timeline settings at 1080p and render at 4k ?? Or should i set timeline resolution as 4k and render at 4k ?? Which project settings will give best video quality ??
Doubt you will se this ... but what about bit depth 8 vs 10 in the project settings? Defaukt seems to be 10 but don't most work on 8? (at least most non professionals, beginners). Won't most additional footage like from stock etc be 8 bit?
Hi! We've been filming soccer games for my kid's team. Normally we film the games in 60fps on our phones, ideally one clip per ~25-minute half, but during their latest game, my husband's phone decided it had had enough memory-wise, and he could only film the last part in 30fps to fit it on his phone. Since most of the clips from that game are in 60fps, should I set that as the project rate, or will the 14-minute 30fps look like 2x speed? If I set the project rate to 30fps, will the 60fps clips be too long? I also do little highlight reels, but those clips used for that are usually only 5-15 seconds each, so I don't think they would be quite as big of a deal?
I would try to match your project settings to what your camera is shooting 👍 unless you're going for a really specific look that's normally going to be your best bet
Hey thanx for the video. One question. I shoot mostly at 60 fps because I like to slow down my footage (I shoot a lot of waterfalls), Should I change my timeline fps to 29.97 and output to that? I've been leaving it at 60 fps. I shoot at 2K and export at 1080 or 1080 Ultra. Does my export frame rate matter to the end user? (ok, maybe two questions). TIA.
I'd say if you are slowing it down I'd change the project framerate to 30, that should make your speed changes look a little nicer 👍 also if you are using Resolve Studio, make sure you are using optical flow!
F***! That was so much information I feel like my head is going to explode. I recently made a video with my new GoPro that records in 5k 60 fps & 4k 120 fps. I exported the video with basically default settings because I didn't know you need to do all these adjustments with frame rates and resolution. The video quality however turned out really good I think. I got a few questions, Do I need to buy the version of DaVinci that edits 5k? Was my video NOT exported in 5K because I didn't adjust the resolution? Is adjusting the frame rate on the timeline how you get slow motion? Thanks Gerrit, glad I found your channel
You do not need to buy resolve studio yet unless you absolutely need to export with that extra resolution (unless you know you need it, you probably don’t) the free version exports at regular HD (1080)… using the retime controls and general speed controls will see to slow motion! Glad I can help, if you have any further questions don’t hesitate to ask!
4:45 "Davinci can't make frames that don't exist to populate that space" That's really disappointing, because there are many scenarios where you may want to do that. With so many different devices now a days being able to take video, they are going to come in at many different frame rates and resolutions. I was trying to make an hour long gaming video. My capture card records in 1080P 60 fps, and my phone's camera records in 29.97 FPS or 59.9 FPS I cannot get the clips to stay in sync no matter what. Resolve can absolutely make frame's that aren't there. there's a whole Fusion FX page that can do just that, and you can change clip speed right from the timeline. It just sounds like bad coding on Black Magic's part. I am going to see if Premiere pro can do this instead.
So I shot some videos from my workplace to make a video for our YT. While my footage is technically in 4K and 60fps, it was also shot on a iPhone. Would that affect it while trying to edit? Mine specifically is playing back very choppy even when I mess with the FPS. Unless I did something wrong Lolll.
I appreciate this video. Question: Does playing with these setting give my videos a more clearer look? I mostly shoot in 1080...so should I shoot in 4k, to give it the really clear look. I trying to get that crystal clear look. Some of the videos shoot in 4K, doesn't have that look, that I see others have. I hope I explain that correctly.
4k can help with that, in the video I talk about how moving to a resolution higher than what you shot in will just stretch your pixels across the screen, the opposite is true if you go the other way... So if you shoot in 4k and smush all of that data into a 1080 project (Peter mckinnon does this for a lot of his videos) you'll have crisper looking 4k 👍 some of it has to do with camera as well though because different cameras shoot different quality even if they both shoot 4k (look up recording codecs) and A LOT of a finished video looking good comes from the color grade so make sure you are studying that too! Sorry for the super long answer, had to be thorough!
I think I'm getting it. For me, in most cases I am just editing or combining some clips from Zoom recordings or a few videos from simple meetings. If the clips all come from the same source, I can just keep them as-is and have the project change to the clip, and I'd be good (right?). If I have a more involved project going on, then I would likely want to make the clip match the project.
This is what i wonder the most, so i shot a short film on 50fps because they said i would have more options while editing. But i want to convert it to 24fps because i want the ''film look.'' I had 42 Hyperlapse clips @ 25 FPS from my Mavic2Zoom and 2 asteroids @ 29.97 that I could not figure out how to get them in my timeline and play smooth. I watched 3 or 4 other videos but your explanation nailed it. Selected my asteroids / clip attributes / 25 FPS from the dropdown and everything plays butter smooth. Got my subscription, and a well earned Thank You.
I use the studio version for my editing but the vast majority of the tutorials are in the free version... Studio has some really cool features but they are kind of a "you'll know when you need it" sort of thing so I'd start with the free version for sure 👍
Great video been using Davinci for couple of months now and always just change the frame rate to match ( both clip and davinci are at 60 frames) now at least know what those settings do for my future videos
It depends on what you want, if you want to snap your clip to your project settings click don’t change and if you want to set your project settings to your clip settings click change
@@GerritHarding Thank for the reply but what i don't know is: should i use the clip framerate instead of the default 25 frames from davinci? The clip is 24 frames. Is there any reason i should stick to a particular framerate for making videos?
If you're going to make a video about a topic, stick to that topic. In this case, the title is about different frame rates, but you spend a lot of time talking about resolution. These are separate things and i find myself skipping back and forth to find the info about fps. I don't care about the aspect ratio or resolution. Your title is "Different Frame Rate"

Thanks bro.
4K is pretty tough to handle for some systems, if you use a proxy timeline resolution does that help?
@@GerritHarding Thanks! Appreciate the feedback
Sure thing!
What happend when i need to edit 30 an 60 fps media in the same timeline
Cool brou 😎
I think I'm getting it. For me, in most cases I am just editing or combining some clips from Zoom recordings or a few videos from simple meetings. If the clips all come from the same source, I can just keep them as-is and have the project change to the clip, and I'd be good (right?). If I have a more involved project going on, then I would likely want to make the clip match the project.
You’re exactly right 👍
This is what i wonder the most, so i shot a short film on 50fps because they said i would have more options while editing.

Hi. Thanks for the video. Nevertheless I have hard times swithing to Davinci from Adobe Premier. Can't understand why it's so compplicated..? lol
Hi there, just wondering would it be better to keep normal fps clips or change it on the timeline to match on davinci? my clips are usually 60 fps but it has 240fps on the game. im not sure if that makes any sense but im just wondering if i should do the option to change or keep on the timeline.
Wtf
I had 42 Hyperlapse clips @ 25 FPS from my Mavic2Zoom and 2 asteroids @ 29.97 that I could not figure out how to get them in my timeline and play smooth. I watched 3 or 4 other videos but your explanation nailed it. Selected my asteroids / clip attributes / 25 FPS from the dropdown and everything plays butter smooth. Got my subscription, and a well earned Thank You.
That's great to hear! I'm happy it was able to help you out 👍 Welcome to the channel!
Hey man just got a Mac and found your channel I was wondering if you use the free version or the paid one and if so which do
You recommend ??
I use the studio version for my editing but the vast majority of the tutorials are in the free version... Studio has some really cool features but they are kind of a "you'll know when you need it" sort of thing so I'd start with the free version for sure 👍
Thanks king. 🙏
Great video been using Davinci for couple of months now and always just change the frame rate to match ( both clip and davinci are at 60 frames) now at least know what those settings do for my future videos
What would be best if a-roll footage is 24fps a d screencast is 30fps, would it be better to just make the project 30fps?
I normally just adjust my screen cap to match my a-roll so that everything matches to my words/actions 👍
@@GerritHarding so if the screencast is 30fps and t’i change it ton24fps, will it affect it negatively, look weird etc?
If you do it in the clip adjustments section you should be all good!
Thanks It helped. My videos were 24 fps but the clips were 60
Very infromative mate! just switched to Davinci Resolve 18 from Adobe Premiere Pro! Suck Adobe won't support Nvidia AV1
Came here to know if i have to change or not and i still don't have the answer!
Nope, 24 is industry standard for most things but you can set it wherever you want for the most part 👍
@@GerritHarding Ok thank again and i will just chose don't change so it keep the original video framerate.
Sure thing, best of luck on your project!
this is not simply stated. got nothing out of this and I'm struggling with how complicated davinci is compared to premiere
You save my Life tho u cant bevn imagine
I’m so confused..😢😢😢
w video
If you're going to make a video about a topic, stick to that topic. In this case, the title is about different frame rates, but you spend a lot of time talking about resolution. These are separate things and i find myself skipping back and forth to find the info about fps. I don't care about the aspect ratio or resolution. Your title is "Different Frame Rate"
If I remember correctly this video intends to address the error message, sorry if you felt misled
@@GerritHarding oh my bad then. I was looking for specific info so i probably missed it. Thanks
No worries, what are you trying to figure out?
Hey bro great advice as our YT chanbel has grown alot this helped. Do you an IG or a discord we could connect on because i have a few questions about resolve as im the main editor on our channel. Thanks again!
