All good points and wise advices, thank you for this instructing video.
Even roundcase V-twins that have become very valuable nowadays deserve to be ridden and enjoyed. Well maintained, they will keep good value, and usual maintenance and simple wrenching on these marvellous bikes are also a pleasure.
Now more expert work better be implemented by experts, not by people claiming that they know how to do it!
Issue is that there are not so many good shops specialised on classic Ducatis. Back to Classics seems to be one of them. But in Nederlands... There are also some shops having good reputation in Germany. But I have to find one closer to my place (Brussels) for my recently acquired 1971 750 GT.
Btw, thank you also for all the other very useful and interesting videos on your UA-cam channel!

Bought myself a 600 TL years ago and turned it into a special by designing and building my own bodywork. Never regretted it. I still own all the original parts though. It is a very unwanted touring version which makes it one of the rarest Ducati’s. Still hoping some crazy collector will make me rich one day. 😁

In 1975 my husband bought a new 1974 dual seat 750 Sport. He de-striped it when he re-sprayed it himself after a minor accident. He then fitted dual brembo brakes after learning the Scarab brakes occasionally came on by themselves. He also fitted a SS fairing as he did long high speed trips. He rode the Sport in that configuration for 30 years. 20 years ago he had his friend at Desmo HQ do a full restoration. He was advised the Sport would be worth more if it was returned to original specification but as he had no intention of ever selling the Sport he had it restored in its modified state. He has kept all the parts to return it to original specification if required. He has a Pantah 600SL & a Bimota DB1S that he keeps in original condition.

A very good and concise presentation. However, I ride an 860 GT turned into a cafe racer. The fairing, tank, side panels and tail piece are all in hand made aluminium in a style much like a 900SS but not as a replica. It is not perfect but it runs well. A true SS is too expensive for me so I have the next best thing for a more affordable cost, despite the fact there is no such thing as a cheap Ducati. This does mean that I am able to ride even in the winter. Here in Britain I only ever saw one 900 all year. People only possess them now as an investment, which defeats the whole point of having a motorbike that raises the pulse rate of a true biker. Let the investment banker calculate the interest, the motorcyclist will calculate the true worth of such a wonderful machine.

Offering advice to prospective buyers is a very gracious undertaking. I have seen way too many far from original machines with unrealistic asking prices.

I live in New Zealand, the go to country to buy a classic Ducati is from Japan.
Japan in the late 1970's to the late 1980's was the number one market for Ducati.
Until recently it was a very accessible and reasonable cheap place to buy a bevel twin.
Prices have started to going up now, but bargains are still to be had there.

I buy a lot of old Ducatis, normally around 20-25 year old stuff. The BIGGEST thing for me is NEVER judge a book by it's cover. The Last two 1997 ST2 I bought, last month, both looked a bit sad on the surface but turned out to be the best two I have bought for many years under the bodywork. Of course this worked in my favour as the sellers didn't ask much for them. The bodywork was dramatically improved with a deep clean and polish. I have also bought very lightly used bikes that looked perfect but needed a complete stripdown because they sat in a warm dry garage for decades and everything stuck together. The prices often reflect how good something looks in a photo but can be very missleading to actual quality. In the end you never realy know until you try using the bike AND you start working on a bike. Sometimes you nevery realy know until it is a pile of parts on the bench.

The only problem is the parts are getting very rare and hard to find I've been looking for a original frontend for my bike it's been 30 years now I'm still looking

Great video, it would be great to have a collaboration between experienced collectors and restorers of their respective brands so we could educate and improve the quality of the vintage motorcycle market.

That is true. Have been with Ducati since the mid seventies. I have a mid eighty Panta based twin. It is not more fun to ride than the singles I own . I am not very intersted in being all original as very few are
