If you need extra tanine in any kind of wood you can buy tanine and apply it to any wood you wann ebonize then after it dries out a bit apply solution interchangeably to make it black. This procedure is man made. There is also original procedure for doing it but that procedure takes a lot of time. One example of original ebonization is bog oak or any kind of wood that doesn't have to be oak dug out from bog. What happens in bog is simple. You have a lot of tanine that dissolved from pieces of oak or and kind of wood rich with tanine, you also have iron acetate in bog water. Iron acetate which is reddish reacts with tanine and as result wood ebonizes and turns black over period of centuries and since there is no air after so long wood pulled out from bog needs to be stabilized or it will fall appart.
