The new-generation Toyota Kluger has arrived in Australia, but is it better than before and has it lost its crown as king of the seven-seater SUVs to the likes of the new Kia Sorento, the Hyundai Palisade and the family favourite Mazda CX-9? Richard Berry went to the Australian launch of the new Kluger and also lived with this new seven seater with his own family to find out just how good it is. This review includes everything you need to know including engine specs, practicality, fuel economy, boot sizes and what it's like to drive.

It's so old that it makes sense to say it came out a few years ago.
I watched the CarsGuide “review” before this one, and they’re chalk and cheese. CarsGuide sounded like they used the Toyota Press Release as the script, and used Toyota’s b-roll footage almost exclusively. However this review IS MISSING SOMETHING IMPORTANT, and that’s how much Australian motorists have been short-changed when comparing the Kluger we get here with the Highlander in the US. TWO YEARS AGO the US version had many more luxury features than were released in this latest Kluger. Where is the 12.3" infotainment screen? Where is the digital rear-view mirror? Where is wireless charging? Where is 4-way lumber support? What happened to ventilated 2nd-row seats? And what about the latest Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.5+ missing from the Kluger? I can almost hear the Toyota executives saying, “Those Aussies won’t miss this stuff, and we add some of it to the 2022 refresh if too many are buying the Palisade.”
Well I miss it and I’m as mad as hell.

Very entertaining, informative and fantastic review. It would be great if you can go through the interior a bit more such as quality and build of the cabin and the infotainment unit.

Idk though u guys here are saying Richard make good reviews but the dislike ratio is so high. I think carwow or chasing cars do a much better job than carsguide in general. The like to dislike ratio is generally 40:1 at chasing cars and 10:1 here, that's 4 times more dislikes here! The reason I'm here is just cuz I'm considering the Kluger and wanna see more reviews about it.

Was so looking forward to this car but disappointed with tech features it’s beaten by Kia and Hyundai and Mazda. I wish they had all the tech like the US and it would be my first choice.

Hi Richard can you please double check the airbag coverage for third row? My understanding was it extended till the end.
Other reviews are saying that the curtain airbags do cover the third row

Very good review however I disagree with the value for money statement, a fully optioned kluger grande comes out at 84k which is then Jeep grand Cherokee money

Prado is a 4wd. Heavy. Sways around like old balls. Sluggish. Dangerous to overtake in. Only would accept these problems if you are going off road a lot or if you are towing a 3.5 tonne shitter.

I won’t be paying $85 for a Kluger Grande when I can get all the same features in a CZ9 Azami for close to $20K less. Toyota is a ripp off. Value for money is the Mazda CZ9

Why would you put the cheap stuff in your engine even if it supported it? Always use 95+ for all your cars. It'll be cheaper in maintenance costs long term.
Kia Sorento and Hyundai Palisade are so much better and also look nicer than this bland Toyota design
