Never be ashamed of needing some mental health support Nick. I have been there myself as I have complex PTSD from the Army and other arenas! I went to Combat Stress and they helped me a lot, however one of our lads decided to call end ex (suicide) and was going to do it 20 miles from my home.
He had called me to tell me and I got straight in the car and raced there and not within speed limits to see him with a noose and chucking it over the limb of a tree. I ran like hell to get there from the car park and climbed his ally step ladder as he dropped. I was lucky and so was he as I managed to catch him before his neck snapped. He was hospitalised and now he has two kids and a wife.
Maybe it would have been easier on him to just swing! (Military Dark humour).
My own PTSD had nothing to do with this incident Nick, my issues were care home abuse and wars. But it affects us all differently. I found out that my mind processed the hanging incident "normally", even though it was traumatic, but it was manageable in my mind. The other stuff, well I needed guidance to go through that maelstrom.
The moral of this wee story is that there is no moral. We save our fellow men when we can but are we white knights? Definitely not, we are just pals looking out for pals.

Have a Happy New Year Nick! I enjoy your content and love how much better UK electrics than the US. I have suffered from clinical depression and suicidal since my early teens (I am about to turn 61 at end of Jan.) and empathise with you. I have found my best coping mechanism is my motocross riding, announcing and racing. It keeps me in shape and is a good way to let off tension. I just did a race in October, my first one in 9 years. I plan to race a full season here next year. I also seem to have the White Knight Syndrome, as I try to please others whilst neglecting my own well being. Stay strong, all the best to you and your family. Cheers.

Commenting on an older video so you probably won’t see this but regarding step kids, you do right to call him your lad. He is in every way that matters. I’ve got three “prefabs” and one biological and I ALWAYS say I’ve got 4 kids. I mean, I didn’t build my house but it’s mine, I didn’t make my own car but it’s mine, I didn’t make 3 of my kids but they’re mine. And DNA is such a tiny part of what makes a person. My stepson looks like his dad, has his dads name, and 90% of his dads personality but just occasionally he comes out with something that’s 100% me and I smile thinking “I made that”.

Mate, find a specialist who does EMDR therapy. Trust me. It will change your life. EMDR was developed for soldiers suffering from PTSD, but is a saviour for many other MH issues.
