You're definitely not crazy my friend. I have fell in LOVE with this house since playing this game. I'm dying to know if there are any like it in real life. If anyone knows of any please let me know and lets discuss some. The characters, memories and stories are incredible in this game but the house is just wow! It's the stuff dream are made of! Like a childs imagination come true. It's like going back to childhood when you still believed in magic and hope and that any thing was possible! This house is just so magical and special and the game is an absolute masterpiece (just wished it would never end though!). All those secret passageways and hidden rooms too omg it's just incredibly well done! All of it!

Here’s some help to understand the deaths a bit:
    SPOILER ALERT
    Odin: Died from ocean
Molly: She ate berries from the holly and a tube of toothpaste. That itself caused her hallucinations and death.
Calvin: he wanted to escape his current life, so he thought he could go into outer space and leave by flying off the swing set. We both know what happened then.
Barbara: She spent too much time practicing on her scream, she didn’t pay attention to the radio which talked about thugs and gang members on the loose. They broke into her home and killed her.
Walter: After Barbara (his sister) died, he hid for 30 years under the house and left after he got tired of waiting. He walked along the train tracks that led to his house and a train hit him.
Sam: He grew up after Calvin died and had Dawn (Edith’s mother). While she was young, they went hiking(or something) and killed a deer. Or at least he thought he did, because when he went to take a photo, the deer knocked him off the cliff.
Gregory: Kay left the water running and the plug in. He drowned in the bathtub. (He is Sam’s son).
Gus: He didn’t listen and stayed while the tornado/hurricane/whatever it was, was happening. All those items hit him and killed him.
Milton: His overactive imagination caused him to disappear from the house and never come back. We don’t know what happened to him.
Lewis: HIS overactive imagination caused HIM to bow down thinking he was being crowned, but the blade that cuts fish’s heads ended up cutting HIS head.
Edie: We don’t know what happened to Edie. But I think she died from old age.
Dawn: We don’t know what happened to Dawn. But I think she died from a disease, Cancer, Seizures, etc.
Edith: She died while giving birth to her son, You.

I wish I could say I figured this out myself, but I saw a comment higher up that mentioned it.

I was really confused why Walter's main thing was trains. It's uncharacteristically dark for him to be memorialized like that. He obviously didn't know much about them, since he thought the shaking of the train was a monster trying to get in. But, then I thought, Edie.
She knew she couldn't stop Walter's imagination. She knew she couldn't force him to face his fears, since that could just drive him further away. So she tried to teach him.
In whatever ways she could, she tried to show him how it wasn't something to be afraid of. She tried to make him understand that it was just a train. Notice the train toys by his bed. But it wasn't enough to save him.

    • @shaeshevlin7995
      @shaeshevlin7995 3 роки тому +47

He also liked trains as a child. It was a mix of foreshadowing in that sense and the fact that he died getting struck by a train was a textbook example of dramatic irony. Much like everyone’s death.

Damn, I’m sitting here crying over Gregory’s death. Not just because he is a baby, but mostly because of Sam’s letter. He regretted so much about his son, and tried to cheer up his ex wife, saying that it’s not her fault. It hit me very hard, ohhhh.
Walter’s one is so great to. He tried to escape the curse, living most of his life with the same schedule. But in the end he accepted it. Not just like most of his family: they’ve died mostly accidentally. He walked outside and was fully ready for his death, he was not trying to run away again. I’m pretty sure he was smiling when the train was going to him.
Lewis’s story is so touching. He would become the better man in his fantasies, rather than try to change his pitiful, boring life. I really relate to this one, I escape my problems wandering in a fictional world too.
And Edith and Edie, thank you for this wonderful and tragical story about your family. I wish I could see you again. I cried a lot.

Even though he was born five years after Molly died, Walter's room's walls were painted in an undersea motif, with a shark in the corner swimming towards Molly's room, representative of how Molly recorded herself from her dream, and always visible from the foot of Walter's bed. The book "Twenty-Thousand Leagues Under the Sea", hiding the lever to get into Molly's room, is known to feature a giant squid, or kraken, which is, again, reminiscent of the tentacle shown in Molly's dream which showed her in a monster's form, only the tentacle visible, suggesting she imagined her monster form was that of a giant squid. And, under where the head of Walter's bed had been, on the carpet beneath, was added a long, blue, creepy tentacle, with branches snaking off of it, both suggestive of the monster under Molly's bed, waiting for her to fall asleep to eat her, now being under his own, as well as of the Finch family tree, a wall painting behind the side of his bed showing the old, sunken house, and behind the head, near the floor, a wall painting of a sunken wooden board reading "Finches", with finches painted atop it, showing what the fate of the Finches would be with the "Curse" . Walter was surrounded by the last horrific vision Molly had, and the vision of the "Finch Curse", his entire life, even if only subconsciously in his mind, and when he had to hide under his bed, he had to lay right on top of the monster's tentacle the entire time, between the dead, sunken house, and the sunken family name, and if he looked up from the foot of the bed, his eyes would rest on the mouth of the shark.

I genuinely do not know how to feel after watching this interactive gameplay. This story is so beautiful and there are so many elements to it.
I love how every story was unique, and that the build up to the deaths was so different. It kept me intrigued. With people like Lewis and Gregory, you knew what was coming minutes before it occurred. With Walter, you didn't know until you saw the train tracks. With those like Molly, you weren't entirely sure until it was stated. And then with Edith and Edie, you can only speculate.
Really interested into looking into theories about this story! I have never been so intrigued by something.

I couldn't get over the graphics and all the neat little physics elements. The moment she said maybe she wasn't the only one left I knew she was pregnant and would die giving birth...at least that was where I thought it was going. I wish it had a proper ending and not just another the whole game was a metaphor for living life to the fullest. Mollys story makes no sense because either a) she was writing down a dream she had in which case it doesn't tell you how she died or b)she did actually wake up and eat poisonous berries that made her trip as she was dying basically...in which case she wouldn't have been able to write anything down. There are tons of fantastic things about the storytelling and the overall presentation...showing off what our current game engines are capable of. Any small criticism I have doesn't compare to how amazing that whole experience was.

I think Lewis' death impacted me the most. Not only was it a little grim, but I kind of relate to him. I have a huge imagination myself, and often build this whole world for myself to go to when I need an escape. It kinda scared me actually; if i'm not careful and stay too absorbed in my wild imagination, that could distract me from the real world and I could end up hurting myself, physically or mentally.
Speaking of being absorbed, i was fully absorbed by this story... I feel like now that I've finished the game I don't know what to do with myself anymore lol.

This is just my personal opinion, but I think the curse is true and that there is something supernatural tied to the Finch family. Specificially, I think it's tied to imagination. The two things that make me most think is Milton's disappearance and Gregory's death. According to the game developers, Milton's disappearance relates to another game the studio has made, in a way that seems to hint at Milton still being alive, but in another world, meaning that the magic brush in his flipbook is real. In Gregory's death, the plug had been pulled and I don't think Gregory would have been able to reach the faucet to the bathtub.
I think the Finch family is blessed with an amazing imagination that's doomed to turn against them, and that if they believe something hard enough, it becomes reality, at least to them. In that way, you can say that the curse only exists because the Finch family believes it, but it also extends to all the other fantastical things we see happening to the family members

If anyone is watching this because they are stuck I’ll list things he’s missed for you (This isn’t meant to be offensive Took me multiple gameplays to catch everything).
    ****This does not include achievements****
    1. When Edith mentions peepholes being drilled into the bedroom doors. It’s telling you you can get sneakpeaks of rooms b4 you’re in them. Says a hint again when she’s in Molly’s bedroom and explaining she only looked at it through them.
    - Calvin/Sam
    - Edie/Sven
    - Barbara
    - Molly
    - Library
    2. Odin’s portrait on the wall
    3. After going into the crawl space from Walter’s room there is a black painting on the wall made by milton. Will explain how he’s been missing and that before he disappeared he found all of these secrets first.
    4. Molly’s Room
    - Before you interact with her shrine move closer to the wall painting something should pop up. (just make sure to survey each room closely b4 interacting with the shrine/memorial of each person)
    - [As Molly] Before eating all 3 things interact with bedroom door knob, Halloween pumpkin candy basket, and fish bowl.
    5. Can’t remember any specifics but I feel maybe look around more in pink bathroom and developing room crawl space.
    6. Go all the way up stairs on sams side of the room??
    7. Look around more in Barbara’s room Edith talks about what the aftermath of being a child star must of been like for Barbara

I saw an interview with the creators and it was obvious from the beginning it was inspired by One Hundred Years of Solitude, which Netflix is turning into a series now. In the end, all of their deaths are their own damn fault for being so reckless. Leaving your daughter hungry for the night, hanging a swing at the edge of a cliff, not checking if the deer is dead, leaving your baby alone in the bathtub, smashing a hole through the wall and walking on train tracks instead of using the door, and Grandma Edie constantly telling people all these extravagant stories over and over to the point where Lewis thought he wasn't special as a person and committed suicide! Edie herself dies to alcohol poisoning, mixing alcohol with her meds, and Edith dies in childbirth, pregnant at 17! What a mess of a family; "Family curse" my ass.

Cordan Philo, The family curse is a device in the story but not one of legitimacy. The "curse" was a coping mechanism gone wrong in a sense. Death had taken it's toll on the Finches before and to deal with it they created this curse to blame everything on which ended up becoming real in their minds prompting Odin to move the house once his wife and newborn died. It was great grandma Edie, who took it too far by taking this series of events and turning it into a publicity stunt, and twisting the stories into tales of grandeur when, as stated by DemonLordHatty here, the deaths were the fault of the families careless behaviour. The only death with a supernatural cause was Milton who according to the creators disappeared as the flip book shows because he was transported into the universe of "The Unfinished Swan", another game that they made, as the King. Every other death in the game came from neglect and reckless actions which were then justified by the "curse on the family" by Edie who simply loved all the attention it drew. So in a way your both right. The main story is one of Family, Tragedy, Fate and Legacy, but the deeper story is a tale of caution to all that if you believe to much in a myth it will become real and it will comeback to haunt you until like Edith's mother Dawn, you wise up and face reality.
After all even Bible a book of faith tells Christian to be wise in all they do or they will become easy to manipulate and followers of foolish and greedy men.
Here a link to a video that explains this far better than me if you have the time (then again you probably do if you made it this far)
      ua-cam.com/video/6bMn4CoyUkM/v-deo.html
sorry if your not a christian but it felt right to add than in as you wouldn't believe how many christians fall into that same trap.
      Thanks for reading

how is it "not one of legitimacy?" that literally makes no sense. It's so obvious that the game is designed toward themes of families and their legacies. What you have done is not any sort of actual analysis, you've neglected the structure of the story to do some game theory ass bullshit. Sure, your theory is plausible. But it's absolutely irrelevant to why the creators made the game. You're paying too much attention to the wrong areas
