My Broken 'Brier is Back

  • Knowing the right people makes all the difference. My Corvair Greenbrier broke down four months ago and left me stranded on side of the road. I was considering making the repairs myself but instead made the smart decision to take it to an expert. That expert diagnosed the problem and made the repair for cheap money.

GREAT example of the power of having a true SPECIALIST for a classic/obscure car.
I swear by specialists, in fact, before buying an rare older car like my Corvette, I made sure there was a specialist nearby.
Yes, they usually cost more per hour. But when they can diagnose and fix the issue in two hours, where other places might take four and STILL get it wrong...Worth every penny!

When I was a kid, my friends mom had one of these. She would announce to us kids let’s go for a ride. Between my family and my friends family there were 21 kids. There was no problem filling it up. Pre seat belt days too. A bunch of mostly us younger kids would pile in and away we’d go! She was a fun mom and the car was a blast! Great memories!

Ive always loved the Corvair. Its unusual and an eye catching vehicle because of its style. I had a friend who raced time trials in a 64 Mona...he had it apart so much, the running joke was..take the bolts and replace them with zippers...lot easier ...glD you found someone that knows what their doing and close and especially getting your Green Machine back on the road...safe trip to the show!

I totally agree with you. It's funny how routine and mundane a car can be but after a while and you don't see them anymore, it than becomes pretty cool and unique. A lot of cars from the 1980's and '90's are starting to get that way now.

Great video as always! I'd like to suggest for the next Greenbrier video if you could do a size comparison by parking next to a civic/other modern car. It would be very cool to see that form factor visualized

Always good to "know a guy". Even better he's not gouging you too! It's starting to get that way for my 2001 Chrysler Sebring Convertible Limited. More so with the top operation/parts, but I'm seeing less and less of these cars on the road (unless I'm in Carlisle, PA...LOTS of them there in July...haha). I've put together a list of techs who can do tops, suspension, etc. I will be adding more local techs as the car continues to age. Owned it since Halloween 2001, with 20 miles...now at 120k miles. Wicked cool Corvair Greenbrier!!

Wait?! That's the size of a Civic??? Wow. I know the newer Civics are bloated, but never thought this was around that size. You need to park that next to a random modern car - like a Crown Vic or not-Taurus (those are deceptively sized too). The TOWNCAR! Park it next to the Towncar - that would be an awesome scale reference.

  • @b-genspinster7895

    Yeah! More Greenbrier videos.
I saw a ‘65 at a “stock only” classic car show several years ago. I was so enamored with it, the rest of the cars were just blah afterwards. It was the best, I should have seen it last. There were some cool cars too. All stock Blazers, 70’s Caddy’s, Lincoln’s and even some Datsun’s but in my mind, the Greenbriar was the wholly grail.
It was green on white and no where near the awesome condition yours was in. It should have been the capstone cool vehicle of the show but I saw it about halfway though. The rest of them were not the same to me.

Its sitting in a parking lot of a upscale riverside home which is the most expensive real estate here. I soon gonna have a fun time disassembling the clutch assembly on my 64' Greenbrier :,).
The bolted flywheel or pressure plate(probably both) are most likely falling appart. It sounds like a Diesel Truck when I dont have the clutch pressed in.
When I bought the Van I first thought the car had major engine damage till I pressed in the clutch. It sounded like there were loose valves flying around inside the engien :D
Helped me bring the purchase price down a lot :)
By the way how is the rear(front facing) bench mounted? Mine is kinda loose and can tilt forward. I don,t think it's supposed to be like that.
