On 22 June 1991, the band attracted around 50,000 people to an outdoor concert held in Balloch Country Park, near Loch Lomond. This was the largest number of people to attend a Runrig concert...this is our party tune for weddings house parties, outdoor parties and new years,,we are a very proud nation i still say this should be our national anthem but hey im just an old scottish woman that loves her heritage..gives me goosebumps everytime..🏴🏴🏴🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🏴🏴🏴🏴
Loch Lomond is an old Scottish ballad from the 1700’s, about a soldier dying in battle, and an anthem at The end of Scottish weddings, it’s been covered by a few bands including AC/DC probably because the Young brothers are Scottish
No it isn't...it's about 2 scottish soldiers captured by the English, the english tell them one of you die and the other goes home......one takes the high road home and the other takes the low road home.
"Loch Lomond" tells the story of two Scottish soldiers who were so imprisoned after a battle against the English. One of them was to be executed, while the other was to be set free. According to Celtic legend if someone dies in a foreign land, his spirit will travel to his homeland by "the low road" - the route for the souls of the dead. The dead one would never see his true love again, by the banks of Loch Lomond
@@yarp123123123123123 The Picts, Scots, Angles, Britons and Norse all made Scotland but it is a Celtic nation. About 5 mins of research will confirm this for you.
Scottish person here if you want to appreciate bagpipes to me there's no better than highland cathedral a song written by two German composers as basically a love letter to the Scottish highlands
This is one of those songs that really makes me proud to be Scottish, along with “Flower of Scotland” (nothing more stunning than hearing this sung by a crowd at a sporting event) and “Caledonia”. Plus, I have never been to a Scottish wedding where this hasn’t finished up the night - perfect song for drunken Scots at the end if an extremely happy day.
Runrig are scottish who came from the Scottish Highland. The song is about 2 prisoners 1 being set free the other executed . The song is about which 1 gets home first
Thank the lord you realised Loch Lomond was in Scotland😂😂 also, Glasgow woooooo!! 1 of the most traditional Scottish songs played at any occasion 💙🏴
Loch Lomond is played at the end of weddings or at New Year. Fantastic. You may also like "Going Home" by Runrig. NO Bagpipes. Runrig's final concert was in 2016 at Stirling Castle. I was thereand we all sang Loch Lomond. We had a whole weekend of Runrig with a Ceilidh (dancing) on Friday, and concerts on Friday and Saturday. We camped in the field under the castle. Unforgettable. Bruce Guthro from Canada was lead singer at the time and sadly he died last month.
I am glad you guys enjoyed it! It's one of my favorite anthems. If you want to check out more Runrig, I highly recommend checking out their songs: Protect And Survive, Heart Hammer, Rhythm of My Heart. Pride of Summer, and Skye.
After this one, Alba and Pride of Summer are my other favs from this band. Too bad they aren't touring anymore, I would have bought a ticket to Scotland just to see them live.
Wow, this takes me back. I saw them in Winnipeg at the folk festival in the late 1980's. I haven't listened to them for years now, so thank you for the reminder!
This is the song every event like birthday parties finishes on and everyone joins hands in a circle with the birthday person in the middle and we sing it. Everyone gets all hyped.
While we are ruled by the world in politics and government. True shame. This isn’t Union, it’s a colonisation marketed as a Union. Independence or a real union is how this needs tae go.
