Floor Jansen is the only artist that has compelled me to get on a plane and fly on my own to a different country for a concert. Would still like to see Nightwish one day, but I caught Floor's solo concert in Eindhoven back in June and it was superb. She's not only a great singer, but also a genuinely lovely human being. Even catching a dose of Dutch COVID on my one-night stay in the country didn't dampen the experience.

Great reaction. There always seems to be people of all ages at their concerts. When I saw them live, a guy in the row in front of me brought his twin 14 year old daughters. Next to me was a guy that was 77. I'm 62 and have been a fan for 25 years. Enjoy the journey!
It reminds me of my reaction when my ex-wife first introduced me to Nightwish a decade ago, and I would watch this show over and over at work. I was really lucky to see them perform so many times despite living in Canada and being disabled. Now I am mostly bed bound, and they would never come to my city, if they ever tour again anyway… More Nightwish please! Love your shocked and impressed reactions to them! Wonderfull reaction. The tearing up and others have goosbumps at the end, we call that a Floorgasm. I know you are Dutch and I'm a Dutchman too. Some parts sounded familiar to you. This song is since 2019, after Floor appeared in the Dutch tv show Beste Zangers, in the Top2000 (NPO radio2) and also in the Koninklijke 500 (Also NPOradio 2). Unfortunately that are the only occasions this song is heard on Dutch radio, but you might have come accross this, not knowing what a masterpiece you were listening to. I can only say follow Gabriels list and you will have a lovely introduction in the world of symphonic metal and Nightwish in particular. Tuomas, the keyboard player, is the composer, including the symphonic & choral background tracks. You can't haul an entire symphony (the London Philharmonic, no less!) and a full choir around on a 100+ performance tour.

Floor werd, ook door mij, pas ‘ ontdekt’ in Nederland in 2019, zes jaar na dit concert ( Wacken 2013, een topconcert). Sindsdien een groot fan van Nightwish en al diverse concerten bezocht. Twee tips voor je: Disdain, ruig nummer met Floor in haar oude band Revamp ( Graspop2010) en een fonkelnieuwe An Ocean with Strange Islands ( 2024, video met tekst) . Geweldige muziek.

Re your hearing a choir, etc. When recording their albums, Nightwish work with orchestras and choirs to record those components of their music (though Tuomas also plays some of these elements using his synthesiser keyboards). When playing live, the recorded orchestral and choir backing tracks are added to the band's stage output via the mixing desk. This is necessary because touring extensively with actual full orchestras and choirs would be logistically and financially impossible. (This concert was part of a 2-year, 104-gig World tour.)

Mon ami vous venez de faire connaissance du métal symphonique et de notre reine Floor, mais vous n'avez qu'effleuré le dessus de l'iceberg et vous n'êtes qu'a l'entrée du terrier de lapin. As a Brit it pains me to say that the greatest musicians in the world all come from your part of the world: The Netherlands. You may already know of these, but if not try the following: Focus playing their song "Hocus Pocus" on The Midnight Special -Thijs Van Leer is a classically trained flautist; Epica, another symphonic metal band - suggest you start with "Sancta Terra" featuring Floor Jansen, or their collaboration with another Finnish symphonic metal band Apocalyptica, playing "Rivers" (or their a capella version of "Rivers" in their Omega concert); Ayreon - you'll need to watch everything live that they've ever performed, but suggest you start with the studio version of "The Day That The World Breaks Down" - you'll find it as "Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down - The Source (2017)" on Arjen Anthony Lucassen's UA-cam channel; and finally Simone Simons, the lead singer of Epica, who recently released her first solo album, which co-incidentally was written by and features Arjen Lucassen - start with her single "Aeterna".

Go on, and take any of the songs of the Wacken 2013 concert. You can do them all. They’re all different and all equally awesome. That way you also learn what else Floor can do. And just for comparison just go watch her version of Lady Gaga’s “Shallow”, IMHO better than the original. And then there’s so much more you can watch. Just go by general Bardac’s suggestions. He’ll probably be here soon.

And just for comparison just go watch her version of Lady Gaga’s “Shallow”, IMHO better than the original.
