This is such an exciting and informative video for me. I will be a solo traveler and haven’t been able to find/afford a small camper. I have a 2009 Flex with 110k miles and have considered a conversation. I can see it now. Thank you. Maybe one day someone will organize a Flex conversion meetup. Safe travels.
I have a Ford Flex, and I absolutely love it. Since I am only 5'7", I would be able to make the bed smaller and have some sort of seating in the back. I always sleep on my side with my legs curled up so I could get away with a slightly diagonal bed going from one corner to another.
I have a cot I set up in the back of my Flex for camping trips- it fits with the seats down, as we still use the Flex for daily driving. I lay the seats down, slide the cot in and add memory foam. It works 👍🏼
This is absolutely amazing. As a newly retired, environmentally friendly, energy conscious couple we have been trying to think of a way to travel for weekend trips without having to buy a camper van. This may be it. We actually have two identical Flexes. A 2010 (160,000 miles) and a 2019 (25K miles). We have been using the older one as a "pick-up truck" vehicle with all the seats down and a bed liner installed. But your idea may be the next chapter for my old friend. Thanks!
Thank you for watching and I hope y'all get a chance to join our converted Flex community! (or start one...there aren't many of us haha) Let me know if you have any questions!
2014 Ford Flex limited - I car camp in it but I'm a weekender camper only so I haven't converted it. But I've found sleeping in my Flex very comfortable and I love the convenience of being able to camp/sleep wherever I want! Cheers!
As a truck driver who travels all over the lower 48, even in the core of winter.... Ive learned a few things.... If your car ever gets stuck in ice ...there are 3 things you could use to help pull yourself out... either of the 3 will work 1.. cat litter 2. sand 3. floor dry All you need is a handful under each drive tire...whether front wheel or real wheel drive.... .. pull yourself out of the ice....then chain up.... Ive got a chain up videp on my channel that demonstrates how to put chains on...lol
We have a 2016 AWD Flex that I have wanted to convert even just for sleeping in and carry a tent for long stays somewhere but I can’t get my husband to go along with it. We are older and would be difficult for us getting in and out especially during the night. I’m definitely much more adventurous than my husband is, he just complains about every inconvenience instead of learning to adapt so that we can get in more travel. Thanks for making the video, I’ve been looking for awhile for someone doing this with their flex.
I agree related to low profile tires. If you still have this vehicle I would recommend swapping out the wheels for a more standard depth wheel rim and tires. The ride will also be smoother on those dirt roads.
Didn't kbow you guys live off grid full time till this video thought you just camped on the weekends from time to time. This is super dope id like to live off grid maybe a tiny house or something a car would be a little to small for me. Great content tho keep it coming!!! Enjoying the series
A really nice camper wagon design. I had a Dodge Magnum that I used as a camper for a while, but I'm looking at getting a Ford Flex now and you've inspired me to choose the vehicle. Thanks for the video.
Great video ! Big thanks for posting your Flex conversion. I own a 2012 Titanium Flex and can't wait for my first camping. Do u have plans or measurements for your rear window shelving? Oh so cool !
Nice build. Looking to build a Flex of my own, after my Audi Wagon adventure mobile got totalled. This give me a good idea of how big it is and how easy it is to set up. thanks for sharing.
Honestly, if I could start over, I probably would have traded it in simply because it's an impractical vehicle to take off-road, convert, and repair. However, I'm definitely impressed by all the places Chad (my car) has been! Thanks for watching!
@@TravelersTale I made the Mistake of taking it to "mudfest" for a concert. silly me thinking there would be a clean parking area. i was pretty well forced vto walk 5 miles, or, go muddin in the flex. i had cash, so i figured id be paying someone to drag me in/out. to my surprise, it went thru places where there were jeeps, and pick ups getting stuck it took all that cash at the car wash to wash all that mud off/underneath it. while I would not suggest anyone do it, i know its way more capable an off road excursion, as long as you have ground clearance. SMH!!!!! What a dumbass move that was!
@@TravelersTale no, mine is FWD only. And I had bald tires!! Haha traction control worked well. Drove right around several stuck vehicles. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤣
Wow that's amazing! I've definitely had different experiences with mine haha. Been stuck manyyyyy times, but typically with snowy conditions. Maybe we can grow the Ford Flex Camper Community!
Hello ! I don't know if you remember me but we met a few years ago in Norway and we talked a lot ! You forgot your camera battery and I gave you it back ! Good to see that you are still travelling around the world !
Great video. I really like your battery/inverter set up. I just bought a 2017 Ford Flex to replace my boler trailer and 2004 VW passat Wagon. I am considering buying one of the tents that attach to the Flex for some extra space when camping. If anyone has any suggestions that would be awesome.
Hi Everest ! Wow thats a ton of good organizing skills. You said you have lived in your car for 2 years..Do you not have a home base? Love the vids please keep making more !
Hi Everest. Good Video for a guy who is converting his 2014 Ford Flex into a sleeper. Question I have is where are you keeping the spare tire>. Did you hidge the plywood? and you have your electrical stuff in the bay for the tire? Thank you
Hi! The spare tire is usually on the roof rack, I just busted it so I didn't have one for a while. I'm thinking that I might just get a full size tire and fit that on top instead. None of the plywood is hinged, instead, all of the storage underneath is accessible when the doors are open. Usually, anything that I need (and want without having to open the doors) I simply keep on the passenger seat. Usually it's not an issue unless the weather is bad or there are tons of bugs. Also yes, all the electrical stuff fits where the spare tire used to be, give or take a few things just beside it. Thanks for watching!
why go with that solar panel setup rather than a jackery? Also, would you have rather made the bedding area smaller so that you could of used more room for storage on one side of the bed?
When I converted my car back in 2018, I had never heard of Jackery but many of my friends use it today! I was excited by the idea of experimenting with creating my own power system and tailoring it for my needs. For the bed, I had considered making it half as wide and creating additional storage accessible from the bed platform but decided against it so that two people can comfortably fit on the bed. Glad I made that choice now! Thanks for watching!
You would have a better build and way more room if you emptied all your stuff including that giant bed. Then add a bed after it's all been pulled out Just a thought. I may be skinny this with a flex.
Did you remove the rear seats? (2nd and 3rd rows) Or did you build over them? Also, you probably should have gotten the EcoBoost (or at least the AWD Model) for all that off-roading your doing! Great vid tho!👍🏾
I removed all the seats in the car. The front and mid seats were simply bolted but the back row required taking off nearly all the paneling to access the metal rod that allows the seats to rotate! After all the seats were out I also got rid of everything in the spare tire compartment to house my electronics. I wish I had the AWD but unfortunately I got this car long before planning to go anywhere off-road haha. Thanks for watching!
I'm a 14 year old making 10 dollars an hour at Ollie's so this is a bit farfetched. I was planning on buying a ford flex and making the back into a camper until I have enough money to buy a house. Lol 😂
You are so on point over and over again with your videos. It’s great. Women are so clueless when it comes to the reality of dating. They think men are just trying to hook up and some are but it’s not the case for most guys. Women say that so they can put men down and act like our troubles are brought on by our own terrible decisions rather than a system that’s built for us to fail.
Thanks for the tour of your Ford Flex camper. This spring I will be living part time out of my Flex. You have given me inspiration to go for it.

@@TravelersTale Mostly good stuff. Hope you do not get a flat tire, as the spare is underneath what used to be the third row seats?
Yay! Finally a ford flex!

Excellent build! I now have my 2nd Flex, Limited w/ecoboost 2017 model. Do U have a electrical parts list and schematic?
Awesome set up.
What do you use if you don't have a fridge?
What are the metal bed legs called at the store??? It’s the exact solution I’m looking for but I’m not sure what to search
I can see this as a candidate for a pop up conversion
This is brilliant!

looks so good be nice if you had a ford Galaxy suv. 👍👍👍👍👍
This just made my day. I’ve decided to move into my flex, although I have just purchased a jakery. Do you have any tips for first timers like me!!
If you lowered your bed could you sit up in it?
Great job!! Love it!!
Did you take the seats out?
For FWD you should use chains on all four tires. No traction on the rear can allow it to pass you.
You would have a better build and way more room if you emptied all your stuff including that giant bed. Then add a bed after it's all been pulled out
