Another triumphant video! Just love the chime whistle heard before the train comes into view. This was the loco pulling our train this week. It was late leaving Caernarfon and really got into its stride at one point to make up time. At Porthmadog I asked the driver what problem had delayed them arriving from Dinas and he said "We had a number of problems."

A really great video 👍 Just hearing the whistle and then seeing the locomotive, brought back many fond memories of when I saw these locomotives in South Africa when I still resided there. I recall the carloads of mine props and s couple of passenger cars tagging along as the train made its way from Umzinto to Port Shepstone on the coast! It's so gratifying to see the new lease on life for these engines! I wish my Dad was still alive to see these great videos . He was a Driver for South African Railways for many years!

The Chime is from A4 Golden Shuttle and was presented to driver Bill Hoole on his retirement from Kings Cross shed where he drove them to the Ffestiniog Railway where we also drove the trains for many years further.

Thanks for the correction. I knew it was from an A4, couldn't remember which one. Someone mentioned to me that the Ffestiniog had Sparrow Hawks whistle and had fitted it to a Garratt, so now I know. Thanks Owen.

@@04clemea You're getting your Welsh NG railways confused! The chime whistle from A4 Sparrow Hawk has been owned by the Talyllyn Railway since at least the late 1960s. It was fitted to No. 6 "Douglas" for many years & has now been swapped over so it's on No. 3 "Sir Haydn". The A4 whistle is the one that has a large dent in it from BR days.

Thanks for watching. It is one of many great locations along this line to see trains. My next video will show some more of them.

Not that I actually know but that chime whistle doesn't sound like an A4 whistle
I of course can't be sure.
Nice loco, so much raw power on a narrow gauge line

its the steam flow its different on a smaller locomotive so the whistle sounds a bit diffirent

Golden Shuttle isn't scrapped. She was renamed Dwight D. Eisenhower after World War II and is now a static display at the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA.
