- Here we have a tribute to the Caley No.828 which was built by the Caledonian Railway Company at their St. Rollox engineering workshops in the Springburn district of Glasgow. She is one of 20 of her class which were built at St. Rollox between May and November 1899. 828 herself was delivered from the works at the end of August 1899. The Caladonian will return to it's current home Strathspey Railway In Scotland. After 828 visited the Severn Valley Railway over the autumn winter period and also made a brief appearance at the Llangollen Railway.Footage seen here was filmed on location at the Severn Valley Railway with the final shot taken just outside Glyndyfrdwy on the Llangollen Railway. I hope you agree it was a great sight to see this type of vintage steam locomotive down on our local railways hope you enoy the video .
Beautiful engine and countryside; nice to see the sheep & lambs!
Played Donald & Douglas's theme in another tab while watching this video for full effect!
This made me smile. Thanks for taking the time to film her and post the footage here for us to enjoy!
Cheers dan for taking the time to watch !! Were very lucky to have heritage railways that run through our scenic countryside's and yes im sure you will get your chance to visit britain in the near future and take in our sights . Regards Liam
DID YOU KNOW: In The Railway Series, and related television show Thomas and Friends, the twin Scottish Engines Donald and Douglas are directly based off of this particular class of locomotive.
And they chose to be repainted in their original CR livery which isn’t shown in the TV show up to this point. At least they received their real world whistle sound in today’s CGI episodes
@3:50 My word, that’s a fantastic sight! I love railway engines like this.
Great video Liam and a good idea to do a compilation for this loco. I really fell for 828 after seeing her at the SVR last year, really agree with you that it's great to see her in action. Hopefully she will come south on tour at sometime in the future
Thanks for this tribute video, well captured and really good angles, particularly at 3.10 with 828 putting up its usual good performance. It belonged to the 812 class which didn't originally have steam heating, but some were eventually so fitted. The 652 class numbered in the same series were steam heat fitted as built and were turned out in the famous Caley passenger blue for regular passenger work. As you can see they a decent turn of speed and were extremely free Steamers. The boilers were the same as the famous Dunalastair class of 4-4-0s which distinguished themselves in Railway Races to the North in 1895. Great work, sparkling images and effective editing Liam. Thanks. Ken
I really enjoyed that thanks for sharing it!
yes it's a location which is rarely seen and gives a good view of the bewdley area just a shame about the trees which block out some of the approach . Cheers for watching . Liam
Very nice video, I liked the location out of Bewdley, never seen that angle before!
Great video, Liam, and thank-you for sharing! I became enamored of train travel while stationed with the US Army in Germany. It's the ONLY way, so far as I'm concerned to really see the countryside. If I'm ever able to come to Great Britain, I hope to do most of my sight-seeing while taking to the steam rails! :o)
Dan
It's a pitty only one 812 was preserved.
