  • This week marks the start of a programme of improvement on the Isle of Wight's bus network, bringing a turn-up-and-go service to the mainline and town services that form the majority of the current Southern Vectis network. Vectis High Frequency will increase frequencies to every 15 minutes or better on the bulk of the network, this week we start the programme with the Cowes MiniLinks, and a new outpost garage in Cowes.

Interesting management as always 👌🏻 I find the shift scheduler to be a blessing or a curse ... you can lengthen the shift timings, bus run timings etc etc within it's settings, but what the scheduler does is not always what you'd hope it might do ! Perhaps prototypical of early post-deregulation times my coaching fleet is occasionally dropped on local minibus services to cover mechanical shortages, the game sure does have it's quirks ... Remember the IOW loves it's open toppers along the coast, there's E400's & other examples in the workshop 👌🏻

I was thinking of maybe moving the TEs currently allocated to the 6 onto a route between Ventnor and Freshwater, and "converting" them to open toppers in the process

I find that the auto-scheduler works very well providing you set the timings (see settings) correctly along with good bus type designations. You could mitigate against your non-allocation issues in the SV depot, by a manual amend, and subsequent copy/paste to other weekdays.

That's mostly how I have been doing it. I found that max shift lengths of 8.5 hours with no break for the buses works well for the way I plan my routes.
