He saved maybe 15 seconds. It turned out to be safe. Had he met someone doing 80mph, there may be a lifetime of regrets. Had the met a cop, he would be calling the officer every name in the book.
I'm guessing it's the same in this country as the UK, when there's a solid center line on your side you're not ment to cross it???? All good if nothings coming the other way!!!!!
May depend on some variables -- you'd have to check the laws in that state. In my state (WI), it would depend on the speed limit and the speed you were going at the time. I know that big rigs don't always accelerate quickly, especially on an incline. Wisconsin State Statute 346.09(3)(b) indicates, "The operator of a vehicle may drive on the left side of the center of a roadway on any portion thereof which has been designated a no-passing zone, as described in par. (a), to overtake and pass, with care, any vehicle, except an implement of husbandry or agricultural commercial motor vehicle, traveling at a speed less than half of the applicable speed limit at the place of passing." Therefore, if you were going at a speed less than the applicable speed limit, that vehicle could legally pass you on the left... even in a no-passing zone. Again, check that state's statutes to verify.
Yes, that was the point...and the red light was just a quarter mile up the road where I sat behind them for 30+ seconds. It wasn't worth the risk & it was a completely dangerous & illegal pass.
That driver was risking his/her life as well as the life of any oncoming driver. Seriously stupid move.
Crazy how people don’t get what a double yellow line means these days.

11 more seconds and he had a clear, legal, and safe passing zone. SMH
But I'm in a hurry!

And that lifetime might have been quite short.
Not safe, regardless of the outcome.
Yep, see it happen often especially in rural area's. No surprises here. 😕
I'd stay behind the truck and enjoy the beautiful scenery. What's the hurry?

Death by big rig.
It's a risk when you are on a curve, and going uphill.

Also, you can’t pass if the solid line is on your side.
