  • Ralph Castro: One of the early pioneers in martial arts history. Through his guidance and leadership, Ralph Castro played a huge role in spreading the martial arts not only in America but to the rest of the world. A student of William Chow, Castro forged a new empire under the banner of Shaolin Kenpo. Working with his friend, Ed Parker, who also trained with Chow, together they created new opportunities for the martial arts community. Castro created one of the largest tournaments in America and conducted countless seminars, workshops and through his children, he was responsible for the positive impact the martial arts would have on thousands of his students. Ralph Castro will be remembered as a man of great courage, a man of dignity, a man of influence, a founder, a fighter, a father, a leader, and a pioneer. Ralph Castro was inducted into the Martial Arts History Museum's Hall of Fame in 2002.

The summer of '69. Valencia Street studio, San Francisco. 49'er special sign brought me and Gary L to the doorstep and my martial arts journey began. Thank you Great Grand Master Ralph Castro, my first Sensei, for your straight up guidance and generosity, sharing your knowledge and your love of martial arts and family. Boss, much appreciation!

    Very nice presentation.
    Thank you for sharing.
I was just wondering and maybe I didn’t see a picture of them together (Please correct me if I’m wrong). Why there was no pictures of Sijo Adriano Emperado in this slide show. He was the founder of Kajukenbo and also the main instructor under GM Chow to GM Castro and GM Parker teaching Kenpo and many of the black belts in these pictures.
    HMM???

Greetings. Instead of saying Hmm...it would be better to say, "Hey, they don't have a picture of Emperado and Castro together. I will see if I can find one and send it to them."
We don't have unless people give it to us. People always say, "How come this person's uniform is not here and that person," because they never gave it to us. We ask and ask and ask, but if they don't give it to us, what do we do."
