Same, just waiting for this 16 point to show back up, hopefully none of the neighboring property hunters have claimed him. I pass on the same two 8 points and several other 6 points every day just waiting on him to show.
Gentlemen... If you are new to this channel I can not express enough these 3 words. Listen to Higgins.. I've made his name well know at deer camp and I've never met the man, but he will put you on nice bucks, all you have to do is listen and apply... Good day.
Thanks Don! Explains why I have seen a couple show back up the last couple of years including a nice ten after Thanksgiving last year.Appreciate the info
Very true, we have the samething everyyear, several big bucks hang out until the beans dry up and they're gone, then come back in December, but we did catch a big 10pointer last year hang out for 2 days around Halloween then never seen back again until January.
great video, and its 100% true. we have 40 cameras on 2000 acres in GA and will see bucks in their area in Oct and in nov same bucks across the lease and then right back a day later, its wild. this explains why the lose so much weight during rut
Last pic of our target buck was mid august. My brother killed him early November chasing a doe. We have 10 acres with multiple cameras so what you explained is exactly what happened.
Wow! I had a really high antlered 6 Point and I use to see him quite often during the Summer. He disappeared in about mid September. I thought he must have been killed by a car or a hunter. He showed back up around the 8th or 9th of November about 3 PM. It's the 15th of November now and I haven't seen him since.
I got a big 10 here in Missouri. Lots of pics of him and the last time I seen him was the day before gun season. All i get pics of now is the doe is was with but no big buck. I checked the cams yesterday and still no return yet. I hope he didnt get shot...but my gut tells me he is still alive. I have an area I know he like to hang in late season. Hope to cross paths with him.
Mr Higgins, I’ve heard you talk on this on other podcast etc and it’s always caught me bc I see this and agree strongly and ours is Thanksgiving week or week after and sometimes they stay for rest of winter. They may go back and visit the rut range but idk?? My main ? Is ... what are your thoughts on these bucks and the ranges being dispersal of 1.5’s etc and they go rut where they ran off from and that is how they know of it and the trails ???
Curious. Does the buck want to have the wind in his face? If so, how can I hunt him? I like to hunt bedding areas in the a.m. but I like to sit in front of them with wind in my face. Should I want the wind going away from the bedding, so he can scent check? How can I then hunt it then?
Well how about if you watched a couple of good buck had them on camera and then opening week came around and a monstershowed up on camera daylight hours but when you sit the time he won't show up
This is a great site....everything you say rings true or I've proven it over the years. Saw a big 8 point just before christmas last year......I believe he was a 10 point this year....shot him at the exact spot this year...about the same day. He was hot for the estrus/buck urine ...same as year before.
Any advice of nocturnal bucks? I know his bedroom but it’s on the northwest corner of the property with the dominate wind out of the south. Makes them hard to hunt when they don’t get moving till dark. I’ve actually set till after dark and listening to him get up and scrape and got him on cell cam. Frustrations.
Don, my issue is.....the 4 biggest bucks I've seen the last 4 yrs, I'm talking two 170 and two 200 plus, I get one photo, and it's early in the year...still in velvet. The biggest one came Aug 11 at 2:30 am to an alfalfa field. Only time I ever saw him. Any thoughts?
Maybe you can help with this one. I have a very nice buck that lived almost all year in a 12 acre area. 6 cameras are out and only have been checked 3 times. This buck I have spotted bedded down on 3 different times within 75 yards of my stand. He has only left that area one time at 930 am on the 5th. All other times he leaves at night, goes to both my scrapes and licking branches and then returns an hour before daylight. Of course I was having surgery on the 5th and could not be there, but how do you ever get a buck like this to leave this 12 acre thicket?
We have about 20 acers we wpuld get a buck a year off that 20 and then for 4 or 5 years we just didnt see many buck so we timbered 14 inch and up and we shot 4 buck off that 20 that year . So its very important to have cover for them in the fall
Around here in south west ohio ,a shooter to most of these boys is which one gets there heartbeat up... It's a shame but what do ya do...i still have a tag and I've been out about 70 times daylight to dark... I'm holding out
Not discounting your research, but what's the benefit of a buck wasting valuable energy huffing it back to their summer area only to leave in a hurry? Why wouldn't they stay in their Fall area, where's there's food, cover and soon, estrus does to breed? It would make sense to breed in the fall area first and then huff it to their summer area when the fall area is all bred. But I suppose that's me as a human applying human logic to an animal that has no rational decision making capabilities! Ha!
When I’m driving and I’m in traffic or it’s a long trip I am so glued to hearing your UA-cam videos that I cannot get enough. 👍🙏🏹🦌
Spot on commentary that my 40 years of hunting agree with….
What you described here is exactly what I’m experiencing right now...spot on. Great info. 👍🦌🏹

Awesome video. Ran across you yesterday on UA-cam and have not stopped watching your videos since. Keep them coming. God bless

Very well said and so true
Best whitetail tips on the market. Guarantee.
Great video and interesting information
Persistence and don’t give up. Great videos
Very cool observations

It's so hard to not give up... You have done your homework don.
How would one apply this in North fl? Would you belive the pattern to be a typical trait of whitetail? Our rut is mid to late january.

bucks scent check bedding areas using a crosswind
@@chasinggiantswithhigginsou6147 ok, so I'll use the down wind side of that crosswind
Just off wind. That is key to pretty much any buck you hunt.
When will a buck typically come back to his pre rut area.
Well how about if you watched a couple of good buck had them on camera and then opening week came around and a monstershowed up on camera daylight hours but when you sit the time he won't show up

very few bucks stay nocturnal during the rut
When is the video of your 3rd 200" buck coming out?
Thanksgiving day
Do you recommend hunting all day 6th through 8th or swap up morning and eving
Hi Don, when a targeted buck disappears. Are they the mature bucks that moves?

late season food on a brutal cold weather front
@@chasinggiantswithhigginsou6147 Well, he wont have far r to go because the best food plot on the farm is only 100 yards from his bedding area. LOL
That's what happens to me on my property. I have 5 to 7 really nice bucks up to being of bow than they are gone
You need to hing cut or do some ioggin if at all possible if you have timber

Let's be honest, bucks have a massive range in the rut.
Around here in south west ohio ,a shooter to most of these boys is which one gets there heartbeat up... It's a shame but what do ya do...i still have a tag and I've been out about 70 times daylight to dark... I'm holding out
They move to different trails....r

The buck can't find any does in estrus in his area so he's checking to see if he can find any in the other area he knows.
That's why it's beginning and end of rut, when hot does are more sparse
Also helps explain the fact on why they can lose 20-30% bodyweight during the rut.
I feel like you repeated the same thing over and over.
