    I agree...the pedal tilting should be abolished for the experienced riders...somehow. When someone packs already say 300 miles on a KS14D should not be treated as a neophyte when advancing to an upgrade of this caliber tipping the $2K.

    Mike , I’m sure by now you know that we all have to ride min 6 km before unlocking the 40 km /hr.....then the annoying decelerate goes away. The wheel is absolutely a beast. The best in my humble opinion so far ......globally that is.

    Hi Michael you are using the Kingsong app, I up load this app its pretty good. unlocking and Calibration was my issue, they set it up for me yesterday hope it continues the same. This video as all of your videos its very helpful. I still working in my balance and that may take weeks prior I start riding it.

      Yes, I am using the KingSong App on iOS in this video.
      If you are using Android, you may have additional issues. King Song posted this on their facebook page July 2nd, "If you’ve experienced your vehicle being locked and are using Android please download the latest APK from our website.
      This will unlock your wheel.
      If you require additional support please message us. Thank you!"
      They also posted that there was a new version of the app on July 3rd in the Play Store.

    • @michaelpaolini
      @michaelpaolini  5 років тому +1

      @@institutionalizedcreator229 the KS16s is a fine wheel, and it will keep you out of trouble till you learn what you need to know for more advanced wheels. There is a WORLD of difference between it's 1200W motor, and the modern 2000+W motors as well as it weight and the 50 pound wheels. I think you choose a good safe route for learning, and likely would have hurt yourself (or others) on a 16x (no offense). What's not shown in the videos, yet, are the even rides I did at higher speed. I've been riding for a couple of years now, and there were moments in that ride the scared the tar out of me and required every bit of skill I had to navigate. Higher speeds and road conditions can cause your feet to leave the peddles, wobbles and I'm not convinced that the wheel itself didn't cause some of them and is fully debugged.
      I have no doubt that even 6 months ago, I would have gone down and been hurt. Ride that fully debugged KS16s and learn in confidence. The 16x and others will be here when you are ready for them. :)

      Michael Paolini It feels good to know that I had made a good choice. I also thought about the fact that it has been out for a while and had sorted out all the buggs. I come from riding a 300W electric scooter to this beast! It’s flying up hills! It is more power than I can handle right now. But I am taking it easy and really trying to not do anything stupid 😆. When around traffic and other people I am really careful. I want the EUC to have a good reputation as I believe am the first one in my town to ride one.

    • @michaelpaolini
      @michaelpaolini  5 років тому +1

      @@institutionalizedcreator229 Excellent you are an ambassador for EUC's! I've got some episodes on this channel (much more formal and short) than this one that you may want to check out on safety gear and such. My buddy Mad Max road the KS16X everyday to work and around town for 2 years, he could do things on that that I still can't on any wheel - and he wore full BMX armor, wrist guards and a helmet every ride, no matter the heat. He always says seatbelts are invented for race car drivers, and we're race car drivers man. To which I'd reply, "Far Out." But he's right.
      Your next [Cheap] upgrade from the KS16s might be a Gotway MCM5 or an mTen3 - if you start to get the itch

    Ugh... I ride way to fast to have a wheel that yells at me to slow down lol. When king song makes a 100v wheel that I can turn off the tilt back and alarms I’ll think about buying another kingsong . Until then GotWay all day! Great video though mike. Also Ugh I have a wheel designed to be a race car, that costs $2k, and it's stuck in first gear. King Song such a pain in the ass with their Nanny approach and forced capture of your phone number.
      You know I love me some Gotway's - but honestly now that I've unlocked higher speeds on this, it's a beast. I'm not sure it's a debugged beast (King Song copying Gotway in more ways then one), but a beast none the less. It don't need 100v's. Peace.

Hopefully this one will be an easier fix just through firmware and no replacing boards or motors or anything. I’m sure they’ll get it worked out ASAP. When I first got my 18xl a couple months ago, I had to tinker with the app as well because it capped my speed at 10mph. You can still go up to 25mph while locked, but your alarm bells have to be set higher than your max speed limiter or the app won't "tell" the wheel to let you go faster

    How dangerous are euc, my concern would be landing face first going 20mph

    • @michaelpaolini
      @michaelpaolini  5 років тому

      TheHelicapt fair. I’m a 50 year, I don’t bounce anymore, I break. :). Safety is a big concern and one reason I choose EUC’s over other PEV’s like the OneWheel.
      To your question though, in most cases you can simply let the EUC go by jumping and running it out. In cases where this isn’t possible, this is what full faced downhill bike helmets are for. When doing speeds above 18 mph, I wear motorcycle armor (jackets, pants, boots, as well as wrist guards and helmet that utilize D3o).
      In 2 years, I’ve only ever had one bad spill, and that was at low speed when a biker tried to wipe me out intentionally. Safety gear saved me. I was up and fine in about 15 mins of rest from the shock and only a cut lip (half Helmet - I cut my lip on my wrist guards, and the brim of the helmet stopped me from impacting my face on the concrete, as designed.
      In general, they are reasonable safe providing you respect them as a vehicle and the warnings they give (audible as well as tilt back), and that you get them with properly large motors and batteries, and you drive defensively. The real danger is other people.
      I’d argue they are safer than scooters as well because of the large diameter tubed tire size (road issues and gyroscopic force) as well as the power and mobility. Probably helps they are a earned experience to ride, and in earning the ability the riders tend to learn both limits and respect.

I’m awaiting my KingSong16x and it should be arriving around the 2nd week of August, what do I initially need to be able and get it going. Which actual apps do we need to be able and “Calibrate” “Unlock” “Register” these wheels to..? 🤷🏻‍♂️ is it an actual KingSong App.? Plz help out a New Glider Thanks for the help

    • @michaelpaolini
      @michaelpaolini  5 років тому +2

      There *is* and actual KingSong App (search KingSong) in your phones app store. Be aware there is an OLD version which you do not want, and a NEW version which you do. The new version has a couple little bugs, and a new version of the new app will be available next week (so before you get your wheel). There is a sticker on the peddle of the wheel that is a QR code that should point you to the App download as well.
      Once you have the app, you can unlock the EUC (it ships locked to prevent accidental activation in shipping), and to calibrate it as well as to be able to adjust the Speed Limiter warnings.
      It's sounds harder than it is. You'll be fine.

    Still splitting my hair between mten3 and mcm5. any thoughts ? looks like you have ridden both.

    • @michaelpaolini
      @michaelpaolini  5 років тому +1

      Glad to here it. I tried to make the video I'd wanted to watch as I was doing the research to buy it. The polished stuff will come later (actually uploading now).
      For MCM5 and mTen3, I actually have owned both and still own the mTen3. I sold my MCM5 800Wh in preparation for the KS16X for the 1600Wh because I knew it would not get ridden once the KS16X was in - I'm too big a fan of FAT tires (3+" tires are so fun to ride).
      That being said, the MCM5 was a great and affordable EUC (I have many videos on it in this channel), and I rode it for a year and love it very much.
      Really it's a question of what your purpose is and what your budget is. If the goal is neighborhood fun as well as last mile to and from the bus stop, mTen3 is excellent (I kept it, I ride to the pool, I chase the kids, and so on). Understand that the mTen3 requires concentration that larger wheels don't because that 10" diameter tire is less forgiving on holes and bumps. Also it is so small, that it appears to read you mind and will start turning the moment you think about turning, and wheel before you command your body to consciously do so. That's one of the magic things about it, very small weight shifts produce huge results. And the torque is incredible. But it's not modern. No trolly, no spin shut off, etc.
      If the goal is to cover some few miles at a time quickly, especially in hilly country, the MCM5 would be the way to go. It's fast, it is nimble, its more forgiving and requires less concentration, and it is small enough to stow, and it's affordable enough with a high enough resale value that you can not go wrong.
      If budget allowed it, I'd skip the MCM5 and go straight to the KS16X frankly (problems and all) because it is better in every measure.
      At this point, my stable is the mTen3 and the KS16X - two different purposes, both highly recommend , and backed my recommendation with my own money. :)

      @@michaelpaolini Wow ! thorough reply . thanks . so here is my situation
      1. Beginner(only done electric skateboards)
      2. lot of slopes and RAIN !!(traction important,) roads-moderate not immaculate. walkways - uneven)
      3. office commute - 2.5 miles - one way. thru downtown . so lot of stop starts
      4. got sense of balance which helps me to learn relatively quickly (at least thats what i noticed in my circle) . So dont want to buy something and quickly outgrow it.
      5. if its not fun, It would just become a showpiece in my home. has happened to me before. so looking for pleasure as much as utility. (mten appeals for fun)
      6. weekly 2 times i have an outdoor tourney - around 9 miles. may be i will ride all the way(some trails available) or may be i will use it to hop between buses. dont know yet !(mcm appeals for utility)
      7. Portability is important for me as i want to be able get an uber pool and not be yelled at (mten appeals again)
      it took me a long time to narrow and focus on EUC. so many ads on onewheel, boosted - kind of kept me confused .

    • @michaelpaolini
      @michaelpaolini  5 років тому

      @@mshyamkrishnan Both work in that situation, it would come down to preference.
      The MCM5 would have the edge because it has a trolly handle which allows for quick conversion to pedestrian mode for walking through crowds, crosswalk, and so on. It also has a spin-shut off switch for lifting over curbs and stairs and such without shutting it off. This is almost the precise situation I got the MCM5 for.
      A trolly can be added to the mTen3 (eBay), but it would not have the spin cut off.
      Go for the MCM5 I think you will find it the better ride. That being said, its very powerful for its size, so wear gear and get help while you are learning. I have a video that might help here: ua-cam.com/video/NnwNMdBbjOc/v-deo.html

      @@michaelpaolini Thanks again ! I am checking out your videos now.
      After many comparisons I narrowed down to these 2 but I might have overlooked some wheels. do you think I missed out any wheel that I should consider ?
      This video is one of a kind ! ua-cam.com/video/dBQ3GI32IZU/v-deo.html .
      So the range is 19 miles till 30% battery and 22 mph - comfortable ride ?
      you mention that the casing makes it look like 16 inch. So it is big as 16 inch ? in that case ., there is not much benefit of compactness of 14" here ?
      Also do you have a similar video for mten3 ? what is the realistic range and comfortable speed ?

    • @michaelpaolini
      @michaelpaolini  5 років тому +1

      @@mshyamkrishnan The MCM5 was a comfortable ride for me. I really enjoyed it, and at the price point it can not be beat.
      That being said, I've since come to love wider tires (the MCM5 is 2.1"), so I sold it and upgraded to the KS16X (and I kept the mTen3 which I love). The MCM5 was about the same size as the KS16s, maybe a little smaller. The benefit of the compactness of the 14" wheel is in navigation and turning while riding.
      I've ridden the mTen3 about 18 mph at the top speed, but battery wise it drops dead about 15-18 miles (the first time I face planted was at the end of a 18 mile ride on the mTen3 - at about 2 mph going up hill and over a bump). I love the mTen3 for neighborhood rides and chasing the kids. There are things you will do with a tiny 20 pound wheel that you would not risk on anything heavier. :-)

      MSX is super solid and debugged, but less modern and the trolly sucks. MSX was updated to be Nikola, which is where I would go if I wasn't doing the KS16x because of the updating and slightly better trolly. And I'd probably look at the 100V version because of the better MOSFETS.
      I think the KS16x is an excellent wheel, but the teething issues are getting to me a bit. ;)
