I still have a steamer like that- my Grandma used it during WW2, my mother used it in the 60s and 70s for steamed puds and to steam vegetables, and I use it rarely- mostly for Christmas puddings..In light of current fuel costs I think perhaps I should be using it more often, the way Ruth does in this programme.
Agreed. A different world then. I was born in 1947 and had a ration book and ID card of my own, which I still have! Rationing ended in 1952, I think the last thing off ration was sugar.
