Unfortunate that they started making this way ahead of time - way before the current crossover mania. This is my favorite vehicle of all time, it’s a pleasure to drive around, very comfortable and big enough to fit taller folks in the back, they advertise 300 hp on that vtec v6 but I have checked and it’s usually around 310-314 hp at 6300 rpm. Me, my wife and 2 kids and our dog have driven around so much in this vehicle. Still runs fine with over 130,000 miles on it and only thing I have done is regular oil changes and scheduled services. It’s a gem of vehicle.

Thanks for the video. I first saw the ZDX at the Indianapolis Auto Expo in 2009, and fell in love. I thought to myself, this is the type of vehicle I'd produce if I were making an around good vehicle. It's disappointing that Acura is often ridiculed for making boring vehicles, but when they step out and make something unique, the pay dearly. Acura really got behind the ZDX, which was designed by Michelle Christiansen, Acura's first female exterior designer. There was even a superbowl commercial for this car which was planned as a flagship vehicle for Acura. I like to refer to the car as a bit of a crescent wrench of vehicles, as it does everything, but is best at nothing, other than it is versatile, along with being unique, timeless, and of high quality. Specifically, it tows just 1,500 lbs, enough for a motorcycle, utility trailer, or a watercraft, but not a boat. It's a hatchback, allowing it to haul a decent amount for what it is, a sporty crossover with a coupe appearance. In 2010, this car was ahead of its' time, and 300hp, AWD, and its' muscular rear fenders, alomg with a wider and lower stance, seperated if from the Honda Crosstour. You are mostly correct in that price killed this car, which was the jack of all trades and master of none. In 2008, after Acura was already committed to the ZDX, the economy declined substantially, so the price, 56k for the top level ADVANCE model, was simply too expensive, and the unique look was quickly labeled "polarizing," as people seemed to want more of the usual SUV look without the compromises of the ZDX. ZDX sales numbers reflected this issue, and ultimatelly killed this awesome car. Ironically, the expensive and less reliable BMW X6 is still with us, bit offered in trims exceeding 500hp. Also interesting, is Acura is now in the process of resurrecting the ZDX, but in a electrified form. I should mention I purchased a 2010 loaner ZDX in 2012, so I am the first owner, but was able to buy it at a siginificant discount, which was the only negative in my eyes. It’s got over 130k miles on it (I don’t have to mention it has never been in the shop for anything other than regular service and oil change) and I still get offers over 20k on it almost 10 years later. I test drove a ZDX on July 15, 2019, it had been on my bucket list for years. The ZDX came out in December 2009, I turned 17 that month and remember being impressed that Acura would design something so unique and hoped it would find a successful niche. Sadly that was not to be. I featured it on my blog, Cars That Are Unusual, in 2014 and being a die-hard Honda person knew that I had to get to drive, or at least ride in a ZDX. I searched Car Gurus, all of them were hundreds of miles away, until late night on July 14, 2019 when I found one at Gary Force Acura, our local Acura dealer (Nashville metro). SCORE. Booked a test drive and got down there the next day, and the rest is history. White 2010 ZDX Advance. Wrote about it. As far as how it drove, it's a lot like a last-generation TL; quite nimble with a smooth ride and very comfortable leather seats. The visibility is not great, but it's definitely very livable for a quirky car. At 170,000 miles it felt like it had done only 70,000, and it's quite roomy; I'm 6' tall and over 200 lbs, and had plenty of room. And I came away happy that I'm probably one of relatively few people born in the '90s who's driven a ZDX. January 10, 2023 1:44 am
My ownership experience is fair .It handles very well for its size , almost as if it has the front print of a honda accord rather than a MDX. The materials are typical Honda . The dashboards are very nice and wrapped In leather , how ever, they do get scratched very easy over time . The 3.7 V6 is very potent for the size of the vehicle . Some of the common problems I'm already experiencing are , timing belt issues , oil leaks from bad seals and motor mounts. So it runs a lil rough than it should . But, if you find one that has been very well maintained and serviced frequently, then it should run practically brand new. And even though many people don't care for the looks, in person it's a whole different story. I've had many people walking up to take a couple pictures of it because it's so unique and different. . It was very bold for 2011 standards , but now everything is similarly designed like the Audi EVs , Mercedes coupe SUVs , BMW X4/X6 even Volvo now have their own version with the XC40 . I don't think Honda or Acura ever get credit for there innovative ideas because of what it is. It's just another Hondas product lol. But if the Germans make a coupe version of a X3 or Q5 , it sells like hotcakes 🤣 . Having unique/different taste isnt always a bad thing . I'd never trade this thing in. I love it .
Yea exactly that’s one of the reasons why I wanted to make this vid because not much content out there on the ZDX and like you said never did and never will get credit it deserves for being different. Most Japanese cars will never get the credit they deserve.
I totally agree 100% Acura was the best to really start this trend but some people say the tesla stole the design for it but I haven't had timing belt issues I just had it replaced a couple 120000k in my old one but someone I know with one as well told me about the rough shifting and he has about 80000k and he said he took it to Acura they couldn't figure out why it does that
I’ve had my 2010 granite grey advance pkg for 13yrs 109,000 miles LoVE it! I did purchase it with the LED side steps rear wing and Acura also gave you the option of buying the car with 20inch wheels as well.I still get a lot of compliments on the car.
I’ve always had an attraction to the ZDX. I’m currently looking to getting one. Did you run into any major problems or repairs with that many miles. Thanks in advance, if you get a chance to respond.😎. The one I test drove, had 63k miles on it.
As a previous owner of one. And current owner of type r. They're comparable to the type r. The shawd on it launched so hard I belive it would best the type r.
Always been a Honda/Acura fan. Was seriously looking at +10 ZDX Adv back in 2014. Ended up going with an 11 MDX Adv+Ent instead because Utility won out over Sportiness for my growing family (still have the 11 MDX with +154,000 miles). I still got the sportiness and safety with the 11 MDX Adv with 1st Gen Acurawatch (ACC/CMBS/BSI), same ZDX 19" tires with 2 setting magnetic damper system, and larger RSB similar to the ZDX Adv. The Acura beak didn't look that bad with in the silver exterior color. Acura just can't seem to get into that high end top tier market with the ZDX, RLX, or NSX.
I still own a 2010 ZDX with tech package. It has been a dependable car (only oil changes) so far. Had to change out the original tires due to tires rot a couple of years back. Currently have 46k miles on the ODO. I liked this car ever since it appeared in the 1st Thor movie. Now, it's kind of cool because you don't see many like it on the road. I probably will keep the car until it can't drive no more.
I had a zdx. It could keep up with na miatas on backroads too! The advance package was super nice because the suspension really made all the difference. Unfortunately someone hit me and totaled it :(
This car always caught my eye. Love cars that are unique, a car you won't 👀 all the time like a CRV. I Almost was gonna get this but I went with a Lexus GS 350. All good 👍
Another funny fact about this car, it ain't photogenic, and looks far better in person. The proportions just don't show up well in photos. The 19" wheels make the car look far smaller than the rather large beast that it is. We also have an 05 RL, also a larger car and ZDX completely dwarfs that. When I wanted to look at one, my partner had zero interest based on photos. We showed up to see an MDX that was already sold, he saw the ZDX all the way across the lot and was like can we go look at whatever that is?! Bought it soon after.
Thanks for the video. I own the rarest of the rare ZDX. A 2013 ZDX with just over 60K miles. Acura was ahead of its time. I agree the gas mileage isn't the best but I still love taking it out for a drive. It never stops amazing me when someone ask me what type of car is this? When I say its now over ten years old they don't believe me. I think what gives it away are the front headlights. If they could be changed out without costing a fortune it would blend right in. I love it when I pull next to a Telsa Model X and they are looking at me! HA, ha, ha... Owned a 2008 TL Type S...sold it about a year ago with just over 100K. Some days I miss it. Again, thanks for the video.
Kevin, I love how you go to the well and come out with some obscure vehicles. If you look at the lines, this car was kind of ahead of its time, I think Lexus kind of borrowed some of it for the RX the Prius in a way . Another thing that I like is not seeing myself coming or going on the road, this accomplishes that as well. Love the review, excellent when you do the unexpected. Ahead of their time cars often are later appreciated, I think this is in that zone.
I love my ZDX!! Got it all blacked out. Most people don’t know what it is, never saw it before. They think it’s a new vehicle. I think the only reason it didn’t sell at the time was because it was too advanced for the average person. I rarely see others in NY but every once in a blue moon when I do, I look at them with excitement as if I’ve never seen one before 😂😂😂
Despite the higher cost of this vehicle and the McPherson Strut front suspension, had I been able to afford it, I would have purchased it and parked it right along side of my 2010 TL Tech SH-AWD 6MT. This vehicle is and absolute standout an that's what I like about it.
With all the vehicles that look way worse than this .. I was always confused why this beauty didn’t sell well.. I thought it was gorgeously other worldly .. & still is..
Bought a Crosstour back in 2013 as I cannot afford a ZDX.. but a very reliable and desirable car for me at that time.. surprisingly it offered full panoramic roof back then
I currently own a ZDX Advance I like the car but the gas mileage leaves a lot to be desired, also the back window is hard to see out of, I hate the active damper one shock cost 700$, I love the looks it gets people always thinks it's a 2021 model and it's not. All I did was upgrade every light on the car to LED headlights to brakelights and 5% tint on windows 25% windshield... if you plan to get one keep the gas above a half talk cause it does take 91/93 it can get costly...
I’ve always had an attraction for the ZDX. I’m currently looking at getting one with 64k miles on it. Did you run into any major problems or repairs with your mileage? Thanks in advance, if you get a chance to respond 😎.
Pictures and videos does not do it justice. Until you see it in person, you truly will not know what an amazing looking car this is both inside and out. Everything else is just an imposter.
Yeah, I read that too on the net, but so far my 2010 ZDX does not have this issue (knock on wood). However, my 2006 Lexus IS350 does - I just have to check/top off the oil once every 2 months or so.
The Oil consumption was with the 3.7L engine from around 2010-2013 for the MDX, ZDX, RL, and TL. Acura updated the 3.7L and the piston rings would get gummed up and stick to let oil pass. Acura did have an extended warranty to fix; but, I think it expired a few years ago. The 3.5L, 3.7L made before 2010 and the 3.5L DI made +2013 had little to no oil consumption issue.
My wife and I purchased a 2012 3 years ago we love it and we just 3 days ago bought a second one. So needless to say when people pass by the drive way they do a double take…
The ZDX is an intriguing Acura for sure! I ended up with a 2012 TSX Wagon instead, which is a unicorn that has served me well. Old school Honda engineering at its best, IMHO.
Great video! I was actually going to buy one of these a year ago but I ended up with something else. I always liked the unique design even though I think it is a little ugly.
Targeting the X6 is like comparing Apple to oranges Acura already won with reliability go back to 2010 and see how many x6's are still on the road. I have no doubt performance-wise that the X6 will beat it but reliability is a big factor for me and cost of ownership.
@MeynMotorGroup Not sure I get your point, regardless if you lease or buy, the acura is more reliable than the bmw, the only difference is who is paying for the repair.
I’ve always wanted one of these, and I constantly keep an eye out for them. I’ve always been humbled with our vehicles (Honda/Toyota) no matter how much money my spouse and I make, but now that’s I’m almost 40 I want to step up to Acura/Lexus. We are both about to get new cars, and I’m pegged on a ZDX and RLX sport hybrid as our replacements.
I also loved the ZDX; but, ended up going with 11 MDX Adv because I needed the room. I purchased a red/ebony 18 RLX Sport Hybrid back in 2019 and this thing is a beast with 377hp/341tq+sh-awd performance and my mpgs are usually above 26 no matter how hard I drive it in city or hwy. You might run into the ZDX/MDX/TL 3.7L oil consumption issue, magnetic damper struts/shock failures with Adv ZDX, P/S pump/rack leakes, A/C compressor issues, alternator failures, and mpgs in mid-high teens with the ZDX. No serious quirks or issues with the 14-20 RLX Sport Hybrid.
i actually saw this car for the first time in Thor…i’ve now owned a 2011 for the last 8 years…i have mixed feelings about it, lol…just hit 75k miles as i rarely drive it due to my career…same silver as the one in the video…Acura just sucks at marketing certain vehicles
The ZDX to me did look pretty cool, but was ahead of it’s time. It’d be popular today if it came back. Which the name ZDX is coming back but I doubt it looks like this.
This is a very weird and unique car. I could not move my eyes from it when I first saw it years ago. It has a closely related car called Honda Crosstour. Sold somewhat poorly and was replaced by Honda Passort in US and Avancier in China. Both has more boxy SUV body shape than coupe shape.
Strange but stunning. It was too early for the game. Sort of like the Venza. Both released during the recession. Both were perfectly fine. But the market wasn’t ready for them. Both Toyota and Honda were had to deal with company turmoil - Toyota with its unintended acceleration recall; Honda’s factories destroyed during the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. I do hope they bring back the ZDX. Just like how Toyota brought back the Venza to the US.
Honda was right about how dumb people would get with their buying preferences. Honda was dead wrong about the styling, though. There was nothing likable about the style, with a hideous grille, the ridiculous amount of front overhang, the entry/exit from the rear seats, the rear proportions... The vehicle design was stupid in all practical ways.
Doesn't matter, they are still related, Honda made the crosstour but there's no US Accord platform in Acura so ofc they used a different platform. Doesn't negate the fact that they wanted an Acura version of the Crosstour.
What was Acura thinking when the designed ZDX? did someone with sense ever said it was a bad idea? I guess no. had I been in that meeting, I would have said, stupidity! 300hp for what? who would want to use a 300hp car as daily a driver? Nobody.
Yea these sorts of “coupe” suv things are always less practical than a traditional SUV so the RDX just took all the sales away from this, plus this thing was expensive

I totally agree 100% Acura was the best to really start this trend but some people say the tesla stole the design for it but I haven't had timing belt issues I just had it replaced a couple 120000k in my old one but someone I know with one as well told me about the rough shifting and he has about 80000k and he said he took it to Acura they couldn't figure out why it does that
100% Agree. I own a 2010 ZDX, and I get asked if they can take a picture. Gets much attention and compliments.
@@deshawndavis2510 more then likely , it just needs a tranny flush
I’ve had my 2010 granite grey advance pkg for 13yrs 109,000 miles LoVE it! I did purchase it with the LED side steps rear wing and Acura also gave you the option of buying the car with 20inch wheels as well.I still get a lot of compliments on the car.
I’ve always had an attraction to the ZDX. I’m currently looking to getting one. Did you run into any major problems or repairs with that many miles. Thanks in advance, if you get a chance to respond.😎. The one I test drove, had 63k miles on it.
Nice to see a video about such an obscure vehicle. I’ve always liked the design but I also like the other weird coupe SUVs.
Same this would have done really well if it came out a few years later very cool looking vehicle
I've wanted one of these since they landed. Shame that they're not produced anymore.
The ZDX is timeless. Looks like a 2022 car easily, at least from the outside.
Agreed
Definitely, alot of people will think you have a new vehicle.
So true 💯
I've always liked the zdx. You should do a video about the 09-14 tl shawds. They're insane.
As a previous owner of one. And current owner of type r. They're comparable to the type r. The shawd on it launched so hard I belive it would best the type r.
The glass moonroof is insanely ahead of it’s time, my god. It’s a shame it never took off
Always been a Honda/Acura fan.
Unfortunately someone hit me and totaled it :(
it always happens smh. I had 4 4th gen tls awd that got hit and totaled. I liked them so much I had 5 of them
Rip zdx, glad you're ok
@elle clark it was deff a shock when the f150 that hit me was worse off than the zdx
Great video my man! Thanks for all the effort.
hey thanks for dropping in Patrick!
This car always caught my eye. Love cars that are unique, a car you won't 👀 all the time like a CRV. I Almost was gonna get this but I went with a Lexus GS 350. All good 👍
Right on!
The ZDX and the Tl were 15 years ahead of time. These styles are what car manufacturers are making now. Love ACURA
I'd say this was slightly inspired by infiniti fx series which started in 03
Kevin, I love how you go to the well and come out with some obscure vehicles.
Haha thank you my friend yea I love reaching into the archives to talk about the forgotten stuff
Bought a Crosstour back in 2013 as I cannot afford a ZDX.. but a very reliable and desirable car for me at that time.. surprisingly it offered full panoramic roof back then
$56000!! I didn’t even know they were priced that high lol You’re right, that’s exactly why these AND the RLX didn’t sell that well either 😂😂😂
Yea def pricey for the time
I currently own a ZDX Advance I like the car but the gas mileage leaves a lot to be desired, also the back window is hard to see out of, I hate the active damper one shock cost 700$, I love the looks it gets people always thinks it's a 2021 model and it's not. All I did was upgrade every light on the car to LED headlights to brakelights and 5% tint on windows 25% windshield... if you plan to get one keep the gas above a half talk cause it does take 91/93 it can get costly...
Thanks for sharing!
I’ve always had an attraction for the ZDX. I’m currently looking at getting one with 64k miles on it. Did you run into any major problems or repairs with your mileage? Thanks in advance, if you get a chance to respond 😎.
If u looked the the B pillar sticker on this vehicle, it consider itself as MPV, not a crossover or CUV.
Thanks for making this
Thanks for watching!
I have had it for about 12 year's it's a great car. I love it
Pictures and videos does not do it justice. Until you see it in person, you truly will not know what an amazing looking car this is both inside and out. Everything else is just an imposter.
I think it looks STRANGE, but I wouldn't call it ugly. I saw one today, probably won't see another one for a year! 😂
You’re not kidding, there’s only like 20 used ones for sale right now in the country maybe 6000 sold total in the U.S. very rare car
When I was 11 my best friend of the time their mom had this car and I was so obsessed with it
8” of ground clearance is more than my ‘21 Ridgeline. Also, The RDX didn’t have the V6 until 2013. The J37s are also notorious for consuming oil.
The ZDX suffers the same excessive engine oil consumption as the MDX and TL during that generation.
Pretty much every Acura suffers from that that’s why I only lease and dump new cars
ZDX is a great car, it's like a better Honda Crosstour. Was seriously considering ZDX but wasn't able to purchase one back then.
ZDX is actually based on the MDX platform of the time. Crosstour was based on the accord of the time. Yea ZDX was very expensive when it came out
@@MeynMotorGroup ah good to know. Thanks for the education
My wife and I purchased a 2012 3 years ago we love it and we just 3 days ago bought a second one. So needless to say when people pass by the drive way they do a double take…
Very comprehensive video, well done!
Thank you very much!
The ZDX is an intriguing Acura for sure! I ended up with a 2012 TSX Wagon instead, which is a unicorn that has served me well. Old school Honda engineering at its best, IMHO.
That’s awesome congrats on the wagon!
Great video! I was actually going to buy one of these a year ago but I ended up with something else. I always liked the unique design even though I think it is a little ugly.
Yea very cool and very rare I think there’s only like 20 for sale in the whole country right now.
About 6000 units sold total in the U.S.
Targeting the X6 is like comparing Apple to oranges Acura already won with reliability go back to 2010 and see how many x6's are still on the road. I have no doubt performance-wise that the X6 will beat it but reliability is a big factor for me and cost of ownership.
You should lease new cars so you never have to worry about reliability ever again
@MeynMotorGroup
Not sure I get your point, regardless if you lease or buy, the acura is more reliable than the bmw, the only difference is who is paying for the repair.
Saw this on the road today it was unique. I have a HRV 2017 . It had similar lines to the Tesla model x.
Almost snatched one up for my wife last year but ended up getting her a NX200T Fsport pretty much just because of the year difference 2010 vs 2016…
Yea I think you’re right
This is a very weird and unique car. I could not move my eyes from it when I first saw it years ago. It has a closely related car called Honda Crosstour. Sold somewhat poorly and was replaced by Honda Passort in US and Avancier in China. Both has more boxy SUV body shape than coupe shape.
It was based on an MDX not a crosstour the cross was based on an accord
I never knew this thing existed.
😅 A lot of people don’t
Just saw one of these on the road this morning
It’s a beautiful vehicle.
Ngl it feels very weird having a car you knew and had for so long called "strange" lol
The honda crosstour takes the cake
Based on an MDX
The Crosstour was based on the Accord; while, the ZDX was an Acura MDX based.
I have a advance package zdx its the best car I ever owned everybody love this car it as peanut butter seats i wouldn't trade it for nothing
so a rebadge crosstour. only seen one of these in the wild
based on an MDX not a crosstour. Crosstour was based on an Accord
This was the Acura version of the Accord crosstour?
No it’s not
Question I just bought one, what kind of gas does a 2012 zdx take?😭
PLEAS USE PREMIUM
Ive been looking for a decent one for some time now and i see the price is going up on them.
Video on the second Gen MDX ?
I want 1 so bad however they are hard to find. I am currently looking
tyhe stiling on the zdx actruly looks realy nice, not a fan of coupe like suvs, but this one is not bad.
Call me crazy but I liked it, the Accord version, and Venza. You never see them, well I don't
It's not a FX35 or X6 competitor imo.
Yea same, maybe the Infiniti def not the bimmer but they tried 😅
I have one and I want another
It looks like a modern EV
looks like an overblown 4th gen tl
Acura version of the BMW X6
Looks like Elon bit the design for the model x and y
I love the ZDX!! Haters be damned
That was cool.
Thanks for watching!
I find this vehicle really visually unappealing
I think most people did
ZED-dee-x. It is made in Canada eh!
I was considering buying one of these and modifying them bc their such a random wierd car that is very uncommon
Facts 😅😂 I do like these as well especially all blacked out def not a common sight
発売が早かった。今なら売れたはず。
BMW & Mercedes copied Acura
No the X6 was released in 2008 and the cls 06. So how
Looks like a fattened up Accord Crosstour.
They're not even related at all. The ZDX was based on the MDX, the Crosstour was based on the Accord.
Nobody.
Yo bro
Hey bro thanks for dropping in would love to get your thoughts on this weird car 😅
@@MeynMotorGroup No problems bro and ok lol 🤝😎👍🏾👍🏾
👊🏾👍🏾👍🏾
UGLY, and that low slope rear roof means no rear head room, not a fan.
Yea these sorts of “coupe” suv things are always less practical than a traditional SUV so the RDX just took all the sales away from this, plus this thing was expensive
