  • The General Fireproofing Company was founded in 1902 in Youngstown, Ohio, where it was best known for creating steel based office furniture. Their most noted creation was a standardized steel desk which could be constructed on an assembly line; by the 1950′s, GF was one of the largest manufacturers of steel desks in the entire world. During World War II the company converted to making aircraft parts, instead of its well-known office furniture - once the war ended the plant resumed making various pieces of office furniture until the company declared bankruptcy in 1989. This was shot using a DJI Phantom 3 Professional.

Do you happen to have the original footage? I like making 3D models from footage (photogrammetry). Is it 1080p or 4K?

Why in the hell hasn't this brownfield be knocked down and redeveloped. Pittsburgh's steel mill sights were all knocked down and have already been redeveloped. They all closed in the 1980s around the same time. I understand the city of Youngstown doesn't have the money but surely the state of Ohio does.

Because conservatives would rather keep their money than invest into an urban area.

Pittsburgh's a lot bigger, has lots of industry and a lot more money. As for conservatives being to blame ... maybe all those politicians that people from this area like to elect who have 'D' after their name have something to do with it???

Exactly where in Youngstown is the GF factory? Is there an address?
My dad worked there during WW-II when I was born.

John K. GF was on Dennick. On the northeast side of town, Dennick crosses Logan Ave A bit south of Gypsy Lane.

    Hello- Really outstanding footage!
Not sure if you're a fan or not of the scifi TV series Firefly, but I'm part of professional fan film based on the series storyline and we're looking for some footage exactly like this! For more info go to: www.shadowsonthewind.com
I'm the lead CG animator, in charge of all the various space and spaceship shots. Basically we have a ship going into an abandoned factory town, and then it lands through a roof (that opens), something a lot like what you have at 0:45-0:55.
Naturally we have no actual budget- but anyone involved will get credited, and many of the members of the team are working professionals out of LA. If you are open to working something out please let me know. Thanks!
