A "bit sore" hurts for a "little while" my god, I got the cane on more than one occasion and that is so disingenuous, it hurts a absolute truck load, it is agony and it hurts much longer than a "little while" and the marks can last for weeks after. Don't underplay it just because you dislike other forms of punishment.
I went to school in the 1960s, corporal punishment was normal back then, the punishment was carried out by the school secretary with the cane, usually there were between 8 and 16 strokes with the cane on the bare bottom 0:19
We had a teacher who picked on one boy for 4 years, then on the boys last day, reaching leaving age went to bid farewell to him, by this time he was a strapping 6 footer, I'll leae the rest to your imagnation.
