Just out of random curiosity. Is there a way to make a fly plaid out of a larger peice of fabric if you weren't trying to look pretty for a formal function but were rather trying to take an extra poncho or shepards plaid when out camping?

I would never go camping in formal gear.
Also if you just want extra warmth and comfort. It would be great, but why trim in down? Wrap it around yourself and hold it in place with a belt. Or make it into a Shepard's plaid.
