I went to Normandy last year, the day after the commemoration. It was so good to see people of all generations paying their respects. We must never forget.
Romanian here. 58 yrs old. Two of my great grandfathers died in The Great War. One grandfather fought in WWI, spend 5 years under arms, was wounded twice. He was born in 1886, my mother was the last of his 8 children. My father's father, born in 1912, spend the 1930's on duty call, then between june 1941 (when he was 29 with 3 kids home) and august 1944 he fought the soviets all the way to Stalingrad an back, then from 1944 going west against the Germans all the way to Czeckoslovakia. 5000 km, on foot, through countless engagements and battles. He wouldn't talk about the war unless you gave him a few shots of plum brandy to loosen his tongue... And we think we have it rough today... God rest the the souls of all men and women that served.
So, basically your father's father went to Soviet Union with the nazis to kill soviets and then got his butt kicked, changed sides and went all the way back fighting for the soviets?
@@markaurelius61 Romania was Germany's main European ally. With an army of over 500.000 strong, it enabled the Germans to actually maintain a solid front line from the Baltic to the Black Sea. Also, when we joined the Allies, in August 1944, Romania deployed 350.000 troops against Nazi Germany, making us the 4th (fourth) largest Allied Army after the US, USSR and UK. We had more troops fighting against the Nazis that the Free French and Italy combined. was an extra in Love Punch while they filmed in Paris. Pierce Brosnan brought his mother along to all the filming. She would sit in a camping chair and read her magazine while being pampered by her son. It was lovely to witness
My grandfather on my dads side, and my great uncle (His brother) actually fought in WW1 and WW2, had my dad VERY late in his life. Apparently they used to joke during the second push into France that they were in the same damn places they had already been earlier. My grandfather on my moms side died this past year. He was an fighter mechanic on a career in the Pacific that got kamakazied a few times and saw a lot of Marines disembark during the island assaults and not come back. When I joined the Marines to go to Iraq and Afghan he was really proud. He had a spirit VERY similar to this character here. He died last year at 101. He actually grew up on Alcatraz. His father was a guard there. Had some amazing stories about so many things in that place, and so many things that he had lived through in his life. If you manage to still have members of your family from this generation around, talk to them, learn everything you possibly can. They have more knowledge about the world than you can possibly know.
I spent many hours talking about WWII with both of my grandfathers before they passed. They were both American GIs in the Battle of The Bulge. One went regularly to reunions and I attended with him for the last few years before he passed. I have their medals in cases. One put together a unit story book with the surviving members. The other rarely spoke of the war, but he was one of the men who took the Bridge at Remagen. One of my grandmothers is still alive in her 100th year this year. I've been going to her house and recording her stories. She grew up in Germany under Hitler. Despite living in a tiny medieval village (oldest recorded mention in 1163) in the Black Forest many miles from any city, a stray bomb killed her brother in the woods near her home. I love hearing stories from all the different perspectives of that generation all over the world.
Both my Mother and father served in the royal navy during the war, they were my heros.. May they rest in peace together and let us not forget the sacrifices of this generation.
Wow. They put an extra 25 years on Peirce Brosnan. Amazing makeup. It's hard to hide such a recognizable face behind makeup like that and still have him look totally natural.
En las primeras imagenes no me daba cuenta que era él. Muy buen trabajo. Es muy complicado envejecer en el cine porque los ojos siempre delatan que eres mas joven de lo que intenta representar.
I'm happy to see this finally received US distribution. It came out about a year ago, but not in the USA. Kudos to Angel Studios for picking this up for release.
This movie was available on a cruise I took over New Years and I watched it one morning. It is a very touching movie that explores the feelings and memories of an old vet so well, as well as the decisions he has had to live with his whole life.
My dad and I made it to Normandy for the 80th anniversary from USA. Of course they all had it shut down day off but we were there three days before. I will never forget that beach or Sainta maria Englese or all those reenactors or the graves
I was born in 2000. My biggest dream was to one day shake hands with one of these men. But since I lived on the other side of Europe, my chances were slim. So last year I travelled to Caen to see the anniversary of the landings, and I got the incredible privilage of meeting Mr. Bernard Duval, a member of the French Resistance. We shook hands, joked around, and i got to thank him for everything he had done for the world. He died three months later, aged 100.

I am an American….”the Greatest Generation” was my grandparents. And I am now a history lover and teacher. I will be watching this in honor of our allies, the Brits, the Irish and the Scottish.
A couple of clarifications if I may: 1) Ireland was not an ally during WWII. Indeed it was oft criticised for its pro-Nazi leanings. Charles Bewley, Irish minister for Germany, referred to Nazism as the “national rebirth of Germany” and endorsed it as a safeguard against Communism. He downplayed and apologised for the Nazi regime’s persecution of Jews, the suppression of Christianity and its aggressive expansionism. On Hitler’s death, Taoiseach de Valera sent his condolences to the Nazi regime. Notwithstanding, Ireland may have had good reasons for adopting this approach, especially in circumstances where its relationship with the United Kingdom was (arguably justifiably) strained; 2) British and Scottish are the same thing (i.e. the Scots are British in the same way as New Yorkers are American).
I have lived long enough to meet men who fought in the Spanish American war, World Wars 1 and 2, Korea, Vietnam and served in two wars myself, and was held as a baby by my great grandfather who fought in the Civil War and the Plains Wars. Do not miss an opportunity to speak to those who came before you it opens your eyes to what matters.
My grandfather stormed Juno Beach with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders on D-Day. Two of my great uncles fought at the Somme. Rest in peace, lads. Never forgotten.
As a man that had multiple relatives fight in WW2, this brought me to tears. We're losing them all, each day more are gone and it pains me to know that the generation that fought for us is slowly slipping away. Greatest men that ever lived.
It is impossible for an 18 year old man in 2025 to know what those boys went through, one generation after another. It is easy to sit back in the comfort of our homes now and think on it, warm in the freedoms they bought for us with their lives...everyone of them...even the ones who lived.
My grandfather and great uncle (his brother) both served in World War 2. My grandfather was with the US 101st Airborne Division from Normandy to the end of the war. Much respect to World War 2 veterans, especially those who fought in Normandy.

I f love these types of movies. Went to Normandy last year.. an amazing experience.. I couldn't imagine now supporting those who actually fought there.
Its so sad to know that in a few years, none of those who made the biggest sacrifices and lived to tell their tale, will be with us anymore to tell their stories. How much all the current generations could learn from them when just listening and talking with them.
December 16, 2024 was the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. My grandfather was on the front line in Luxembourg, right on the German border. He wrote a book about his experiences. Greatest man I ever knew. I miss him everyday but I cherish the time I had with him.

Seems like a great story, seems like an awesome choice in Pierce. One of the few trailers in the last 3 or 4 years I look forward to watching the film.
Both my paternal Grandparents were part of the war effort. My Grandfather was a chief mechanic for the Army Air Corps in Europe and was responsible for keeping a bunch of our planes airworthy and combat ready. My Grandmother worked in an arms factory, mostly producing 40mm anti aircraft shells. Both are gone. My grandfather passed about 20 years ago and my grandmother a year ago. My biggest regret is not asking them more about their experiences.

So it's essentially 2023's The Great Escaper.
This one came out in 2023 too. Angel Studios is just rereleasing it.
thats the film i was trying to remember
I want to say thank you again to my Grandpa who fought with the British Army in North Africa and Italy. He passed away in 1979. I also want to say thanks to my wife’s Grandpa who fought in the Asian theatre. He passed in 1999 and I never had a chance to meet him. They were part of the Greatest Generation ❤🫡
Where in the Asian theatre?
My granddad fought in Burma. Tank driver in the "admin box".
@ He was in Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Was captured as a POW at one point but managed to escape. After the war the Govt gave him a good civil job and pension.
This looks exceptional!! Angel Studios is knocking it out. I love to see films like this.
Wow. I'm already having goosebumps!
Last movie with John Amos. A fine actor!!! RIP
I could of seen my grandpa doing something like this, needless to say, i have to see this ❤️
Finally a movie worth seeing.
Angel has been aquiring some great shows. Can't wait to watch it on the app.
Seems like a great story, seems like an awesome choice in Pierce. One of the few trailers in the last 3 or 4 years I look forward to watching the film.
It brought tears in my eyes seeing the Bond of my teen years being old. Signifies I am going the same way and I don't like it.
I'll be keeping my eyes open for this one, looks like a good story to watch.
I have got this recommended by UA-cam. And I'm already crying.
Cant wait to see that movie!
Here's to John Amos. One great actor.
RIP John, hopefully he went out with a smile on his face (research his girlfriend)
We made it to the 80th D-Day anniversary, and it was fantastic.
I saw this movie and it's a heartwarming gem!
Rest in peace to my great-grandfather, sergeant major Richard Doyle, POW and a hero of his time, the best generation in the world, they saved the world.
It's weird seeing James Bond that old
I didn't even recognize Pierce Brosnan at first. The makeup artists did a great job
I love Pierce Brosnan here. Seems to be a good movie.
Favourite James Bond 🥰
Seeing him this old really hurts man. Wow!
I have to see this. Love the casting of Brosnan.
I know I am going to cry like a baby but I am definitely going to watch this.
Hope to watch this film.
My dad was a Marine and served in the Pacific. At war’s end he was sent to China where he spent about six months. He was one of the last China Marines
I know Pierce is old. But it's unbelievable that he's this old. God! I'm stuck in the 90's.
Just saw this movie and it was beautiful! Definitely, a must watch.❤
I know this movie will make me cry and I am going to cherish the whole experience
Movies like these is a MUST WATCH eod.
This looks beautiful.
Even the trailer made me emotional. That's usually a good sign.
This looks fantastic!!!
Another great movie!
These are bad times. An old generation can teach honor ,pride and humanity. Sorry for my english.
God bless the makers of this movie. Soon we will need the same courage and the same sacrifice to uphold and to honor freedom, once again.
I’m 46 years old, my grandfather was a 1st LT. Navigator on a Flying Fortress, 337th Bomb Squadron, 96th Bomb Group of the Mighty Eighth, out of RAF Snetterton Heath.
Has no one here seen The Great Escaper? Don’t get me wrong I’m all for keeping the public memory of the past strong but this feels like they’ve taken the easy route with this having a huge reference to follow.
Brilliant film, hes having a renaissance at the moment
we must honor our vets
