    An IT guy here. SSD hard drives only have a limited quantity of writes before you burn them up. Disk drives continuously can rewrite and are best for video applications. Look at the TBW or Terrabytes written value to know how much data you can expect to write to an SSD before it dies.

    Another great review Stu. Thanks as always.
    One bit which I would’ve liked to see in the review (which I’ll go and check for myself now) is add-on compatibility with other eufy kit, such as the doorbell and wired cameras, also add on cost for more solar cams and any other eufy bits like motion detectors and spotlights.
    I’ve had my eye on the 2k wired ones for a little while but this might have caused just one eye to track off the side onto the latest wireless. Yes - I’ll see my optician about that….

    Great review, I'm here in Windsor, Ontario Canada, and I was wondering if they sold the Homebase 3 separately and could it connect to the Eufy Solo Cam E40. Thanks I'm going to check out some more videos.

      I believe they do- currently just $149 which is good value. Full compatibility is on their website FAQs, but I’m using a cam 2 pro as well as the two s330 in this episode with it.

    I got lucky in the Eufy summer sale. Wireless 2K eufyCam Solo Pro outdoor cam (no home base) and eufy 360 degree indoor tracking cam for just over £100.
    Ai works great. Only one wish, that I hope they'll add to a future update: default position bookmarking for the 360 degree pan and tilt indoor cam.
    I'd like it to return to a default position, instead of staring relentlessly out the window at a bush that caught a breeze earlier on in the day. Small gripe though because it will turn around when noise and motion is next detected and I can control the pan and tilt in live view.
    Interesting to see what's possible with Eufycam 3. Interested to see where the Solocam series go too.

    I use the Nest system, since it's inception. It used to be the best for me but the video quality has dropped so much that the footage is almost unuable these days. I also dislike that they want me to use that newer Home app. I like the Nest app, it works for me.

    • @flfl3969

      I own four Eufy 2K Pro cameras and the video footage is stunning. The 4K is three times better. Further, you can save important video events locally on YOUR hard drive and so you will always have access to them. There is no subscription fee and so these cameras will pay for themselves in about 4-5 years. The only advantage the nest system has is 24 hour recording. And 24/7 recording is expensive with Nest. Another question is do you ever really need 24/7 monitoring? Possibly during a robbery, but then, the Eufy cameras will record the break in and notify you and unless the thieves know about the base module that records your footage, you will have a hard copy video of the robbers in action to provide the police with.
      The Nest system is good, one of the best. But you pay for it, and it has a lot of flaws. Google is notorious for failing to update their hardware.

    I use reolink Stu. The old quality is good. Buy from the EU site as its cheaper and have a little solar panel. Pricey when you have a few of them and an NVR too. But the phone App is grand. Not 4k as my broadband would collapse but 1080p.

      My broadband isn’t the best… about 40mb on a good day! Still handles it well! I like Reolink, but like every camera system I’ve tried (except this one), there are a few issues!

      Do you have the spotlight one for outside? And how is that spotlight, lighting and ambience versus the ring spotlight? The only thing that’s holding me back is that it looks like it’s very small light Not giving much output?

    My only concern on these Stu is the solar power. Will they keep charged on a North facing wall where it gets no direct sunlight? Is there a wired option available? 🙂

    I use the UniFi cameras, and they do everything I want at an interesting cost! G3 Dome, G4 Pro's, G3 Flex, G3 Bullet indoors and outdoors, and all linking into my UniFi network as well. It's certainly not for the average home user, but for anyone interested in tech... well... they are a must go to series of cameras and kit in general!

    The Reolink also has a custom notification sound on Apple. I’m replacing all my wifi cameras with wired, and saving to my own “cloud” (cheap VPS). Might as well utilize the fiber now that I finally have it.

    Ring all day all cloud and never worry about losing data or someone just swiping the hub and all the data. Connections and Wi-Fi have been super robust. Owned for over three years now almost going on 4 years. And full integration with Alexa. Got three solar spotlights and one ring doorbell pro.

    • @StusReviewsUK
      @StusReviewsUK  2 роки тому +1

      I use the ring doorbell currently, but it annoys the hell out of me that you *have* to have a subscription if you want video playback. Otherwise it’s just a doorbell… with a video camera on it.

    I use Arlo Q cameras (I have 2x) as only wanted internal placement and they didnt charge a monthly fee for cloud storage, got them 5 years ago. I found the Arlo Q was the right balance between cost vs quality (5 years ago). With so many subscription services these days i didn't want a extra monthly cost, its a bit deceptive that some brands try and hide this monthly payment from the consumer with their cameras. The eufy product looks pretty innovative, but i see its very expensive.

    • @StusReviewsUK
      @StusReviewsUK  2 роки тому

      I’ve been using Arlo prior to this for about 2 years as it was the closest thing to being what I wanted (with a few small irritants). Had a few of their original cameras and then upgraded to the essential range. Unfortunately the system just got worse over time. I ended up getting double notifications every time they were triggered, and the AI became less and less accurate - not to mention that the AI was hidden behind the paywall.

    • @SecretOfMonkeyIsland784
      @SecretOfMonkeyIsland784 2 роки тому

      @@StusReviewsUK Yes, the Q series has a bug where the night vision turning on can make a pop sound and trigger a recording (So false positives) and their battery camera versions are super pricey. Yeah the AI & long term video retention is behind a paywall, but basic features and 7 days isnt,, so its good enough for me. Glad Arlo has some competition now :)

  • @flfl3969

    Why would any security camera manufacturer engineer their cloud storage access for other companies. Think about it, they would have to engineer specific software for each company and they would not get paid for this huge amount of work. The software connection over the cloud is very complex, further, the unlimited amount of storage has to be purchased from various web services. You might want to not think out loud in your videos, and prepare more vetted questions.

    • @StusReviewsUK
      @StusReviewsUK  2 роки тому +1

      With that notion, why would any company bother making integrations for any other service? HomeKit, Alexa, Google etc? And no they wouldn’t have to ‘engineer specific software’ at all. The base station already has access to the internet, it already has a robust filing system that can be read like a regular drive, and therefore it wouldn’t take too much to integrate pre-existing APIs from services like google drive or Dropbox to store this information as a backup. We see this in the *thousands* of apps that already use this type of integration.
      Why would they do it? Well to evidently appeal to a bigger market share and generate greater numbers of users. With no subscription fees AND the ability to use cloud storage from other providers by integrating with the Homebase 3 would convert a significant number of users for sure, and that means more sales and more people in the ecosystem.
      Also, as I said, they already let you do this with older base stations… So you might want to think before you comment to prepare a more valid argument. 😉

    Stu I am seriously worried about you now. I don’t know where you live but seriously…does anybody really care this much about their property while they’re out? I don’t have a remote camera at all. Never have and never will. Our home has never been brocken into and I really don’t care a toss who walks past the front door during the day or the night. You really need to relax more and stop planning for disaster. No one should be this anal. Ever!

      My favourite saying is ‘it hasn’t happened until it’s happened’. I care about my property, my family and my dogs yes.
      In rural UK there are a lot of burglaries, so having products like this act as a very visible deterrent, and makes my property an undesirable target.
      Lastly, as a cheeky bonus, it also means my house insurance is cheaper because I use the company locket who give discounts based on your preventative technology.
      It’s not being anal - it’s being sensible. I’d challenge you to name any business that doesn’t use CCTV.

My apologies. And thank thanks for your work. Entertaining and important.

      security isn’t the only rationale for owning cameras,
      I have a camera in my backyard to check on my dogs when I am away (they have unrestricted access to the backyard),
      a camera in my side yard to animal watch (I put out feed for the local wildlife and get all sorts of interesting guests[just yesterday I saw the marvelous sight of a hawk looking to grab a quick meal)
      And finally a camera watching my porch to let me know when the mails been dropped off, companies come by, or a package has been delivered.
