  • Well? what a week and its only Wednesday!
I promised you a full detailed video of how it happens, the mistakes, the up's the downs, this could quite go down as the biggest mistakes of my life, or it will define my autumn and winter years😑
Everything has not gone to plan, but Griffin, being me, will endeavour to rise from this early disaster and I will not be beaten, someone has wished me bad luck on this build, and in the words of Liam Neeson, I have developed a set of skills, none of which are helping me 😭
Smash it tomorrow? we shall see.

This series is a breath of fresh air. I cannot stand the usual over-produced, perfect world, glorified corporate videos that're now the norm on UA-cam. I enjoy the resourcefulness, common sense and ingenuity in these videos. Unpolished communication is youtube at its best. And the outraged Karen comments are hilarious. Keep it up and good luck.

Feel your pain mate, nothing ever goes to plan. We don't get results by giving up though so tomorrow is a new day and go again, you've got the skills to smash it 💪👏

You see Liam, this is why folk love to watch your videos. You don't brush over the setbacks, you show those too and how you overcome them. I can totally relate to this setback. My back garden imediately slopes up away from my house on a gradient of about 1:6 . I got they guy who is going to do my drive to come in with an excavator last November to dig out an area 3.5 metres x the full 8m garden width so I could make a new patio. I had one but it was crap and too high in relation to the conservatory. 2 grab loads of clay dumped on my front garden later I had a nice flat area. Then the bloody rains came and I ended up with mini landslides during the winter months. Watched loads of youtube videos to work out how to fix it and I ended up digging out another grab full of clay, built retaining walls, hollow blocks with rebar through them and into the foundations and perforated drainage behind protected with membranes and granite chippings. Sub base for the patio went down and whacked and now paved. New garden furniture is ordered, just need some sunshine. I've still a bit of work to do on steps and another low retaining wall higher up but im proud of what ive achieved and its all thanks to watching guys like you on youtubewhich made me believe i could do it. Shame I can't share pictures on here.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing how you overcome your collapsing trenches. I know you will somehow. Compulsive viewing.
    Cheers mate.

thanks mate, appreciate the time you've taken to write this, pumped it out this morning, back filled the trench so I could get the digger back in, dug it out again🤦🏻‍♂️shored up the trench, went to Selco, came back, fence was in the trench😭shuttering worked though, just got to get the concrete posts out now, big lump of concrete on the bottom too😬

I felt so bad watching you mate, that sort of groundwork shit is the worst thing to have to deal with.
A good tip to stop trenches caving in if it rains is to lay polythene DPM over the ground and into the trench. It doesn’t stop the trench filling up but it stops the water getting into the ground around the trench which then causes the cave ins. An old brickie gave me the tip and it does work. Enjoying the series mate, warts and all.

Building inspectors just like ticking boxes. They're not paying for it. Also there's the environmental impact ( I'm no tree hugger) digging deeper, means more carbon used, same with the concrete or footings, one or both will use more materials, therefore more carbon.
What ever happened to common sense approach to things, I know, lawsuits and covering their arses

you can't just change plans to that extent once granted. you would have to submit again and it's doubtful with roof overhang. it rare the external wall is the finished external measurement with roof and gutters so he would be technically in the neighbours garden
