      nope; "the supreme art of war is how to subdued your future enemy to fight your current one"
      Why did anyone think China offer to buy Russia's oil/gas-etc at a premium during the Beijing Game;
      "We'll help offset the financial sanction, Go for Ukraine buddy, we'll politically assist you"
      Then nearly all of Beijing media is on Moscow's side and some even were echoing "This battle will be over in days or 2 weeks" ; RT was even saying Zlensky had fled which is ironic when Putin was the one that did when Wagner came close to Moscow"
      It was smart for Beijing not to get directly improved in the actual fighting so it will weaken Russia and make it its underlining in the future (as long as it doesn't fall apart)

And “Russia doesn’t pay a high price for its aggression…”… the US has never paid for their aggression starting wars and coups in other countries either (neither has the UK if you want to go back further in history).
    Do you not see this as applying a different set of rules to countries outside the US/NATO alliance, not based on fairness.

    "Some western governments are skeptical that china can be an honest peace broker"
    Many people are even more skeptical that some western government can become an honest peace broker after all the nonsense that is happening in the middle east.
    The world is not divided only into east and west. There is always the southern part of the world that certainly can help, the "non-bloc" (also known as the non-aligned) are independent of other influences so why not just get India, Indonesia, or South Africa to broker a peace deal, why it has to be the west? The West does not have to dictate who gets to do what and how this war should end and so is the east. All they should do is to provide a space for both side to negotiate and actively supporting the development toward peace. But if China or anybody else managed to stop the conflict then its great for everybody regardless of how honest they were.
    As President Lukashenko once said (well, he did said it so just take it as you will) "A bad peace is better than any war".

This conflict has come at a unimaginable price for 🇺🇦, 8-10 million citizens fled, a few million were already working in Europe, they have 1/9th of Russia's population, They have mobilised 29 times in various regions, "I did not say they mobiled 29 times nationally, 🇷🇺 has mobilised once, Ukraine is entirely dependent on mainly America for its government to function, weapons and ISR. Russia produces weapons dispite being the most santioned nation in history, it also has multiple partners it can access weaponry from, they lean heavily on the Chinese for revenue however it has other markets it still receives over 50% of its revenue from including Euopre, America will most likely have a new president next yr, despite what MSM is saying Putin is not going anywhere and will only concede power to his successor "Medvedev's son" when he dies of natural causes or his health requires it, Russia shows great restraint towards Ukraine in terms of hitting civilian targets "conflicts always sadly have civilians being hit no matter how precise you try to be", it could easily obliterate Ukraine if it chooses to "nuclear weapons excluded" they themselves know this could easily escalate to a world war if they do this, same as mobilising 5 million troops could have the same effect, Putin hate him or love him is a master of chess so to speak, keeping a conflict confined to one nation suits russia, america, and europe, sadly I have a feeling when Europe wakes up to the fact they are pawns in a chess game it will be to late for them...not a popular opinion I know but come at me bots 😀 😉 😄

    Also- this may or may not be Mr. Remnick's completely candid analysis, as in Xi's China, journalists, and in this case, foreign ones are required to spin any global event as one in which China was in the right all along. The Ecornomist must cater to Chinese demands of glorification of the dear leader(not to be confused with the North Korean Dear Leader, who was better than Tiger Woods in the game of golf!😊
    Overall, everything Mr. Remnick says is factually accurate and I mostly agree with him. Particularly the part regarding to whom Mr. Putin will be able to export energy to. Simply look at all of the pipelines being built in Russia.
