David Gilmour - Murder

- Taken from a film by David Gilmour from his 1984 tour from the album About Face for Europe. The film is mainly a concert performance from The Hammersmith Odeon in London in April, 1984. It is now out of production.
This is what UA-cam was invented for. Being able to discover gems like this night after night. David is a God with a Guitar.
One of the most brilliant under rated songs ever
@@macsattic7155 in your ears maybe
Bass line is incredible!!!
@@billhickman1493 Mikey put Pino’s bass lines and made them his own….love it
I agree I have been rediscovering Gilmore s solo stuff lately
One of the best albums, unknown to many
It certainly is a gem of an album. I love the song "Out of the Blue", too.
I love it.
yes. So true.
One of the worst albums ever made by such a huge talent.
Bravo Tania😂👏👏👏👏
My absolute favourite Gilmour solo song. This version is unbelievable! Thank you so much for posting!
It certainly is. Fantastic band. I saw him on the "About Face" tour.
Great song. Even better live. Bass line so brilliant
that bass riff gives me goosebumps and make me almost burst out in tears of joy...
This song was huge in 1984/5 and I always wondered what it was about.
Then I saw an interview with DG and learned it was about the murder of John Lennon.
“What was that brought you out here in the dark”refers to the vigil outside John Lennon’s apartment that formed after word go out about the shooting.
“Did you get rid of the voices in your head,” sounds like a direct challenge to Mark David Chapman.
“On your own admission…” you can hear the anger in his voice.
In amazingly few words he sums up grief, mental health, anger, the brutality and finality of death.
And the musicianship is unbelievable. Acoustic guitar intro, fret less bass solo, amazing solo as the tempo of the song climbs and climbs, reminds me of Stairway in the the intensity climb.
Masterpiece.
It wasn’t huge at all…just like all the PF solo records were concerned….nobody heard or bought them bc nobody knew their names/faces
@@cbennett196631...no actually it was pretty huge. I was there.
I disagree. Gilmore and Watres became the faces of Floyd before the split. And much interest in Gilmore solo albums. But what do I know born and raised in Detroit. I think we had great music variety as far as radio goes. Love all my Canadian music influences. And Motown. 3 rock stations as a kid so competition kept music honest.
But Lennon was shot, not stabbed like the song states

I’m guessing it’s Dave’s amazing ability using a metaphor. He has done it in songs like Poles Apart.
Mick Ralphs on guitar
Gregg Dechert on keyboards,
Mickey Feat on bass,
Sue Evans & Jody Linscott on percussions,
Raphael Ravenscroft on sax, flute and keyboards and
Chris Slade on drums.
David Gilmour on lead vocals and guitar
Pino’s bass solo (On the original version) is great! Mickey’s bass solo is beyond!!! He respectfully adopts Pino’s legacy and even improved the bass part! I can’t get enough of this.
Terrific line up....I think this was when Gilmour took "About Face" on his First live tour in 1984...so lucky audience!

Forever and Ever
David Gilmour
His best solo song. Period.
Bass here is a masterpiece!
Mickey is bad arse here!!!
I LOVE the bass solo in this version. so much emotion in it. amazing.
Such a beautiful song .One of his best
Classic Gilmour.
Great supporting cast.
The harmonizing guitar thing at 6:34 is so awesome.
Love this version... the bass and first guitar solo, different but well constructed, amazingly driving drum line, great for a life version and the last solo by Gilmour, piercing BigMuff sound... simply awesome. The band is in full cry.
I absolutely love the opening bass line!!
And just drives !!!
Mick Ralphs’ guitar solo is my favorite of this song.
Glad I found this!! Early David Gilmour! I noticed his drummer also played with AC/DC!!
He was also in The Hills Have Eyes. And wasted his time playing in The Firm.
Chris Slade
Beautiful tribute to John Lennon
My face just melted off of my skull!
Nailed that solo his own way!!! That was awesome.
Totally awesome,he wrote parts for each instrument, and on album he played them all of them in studio.
Pino Palladino played the fretless bass in the studio.
Yea, don’t ever make that mistake again!
@@fatharold1788😂
Saw Gilmour live on this tour Boston Orpheum 1984. Friggin awesome show!
So did I. I have the ticket stub saved inside the CD case of About Face.
@@frostyavalanche Still have my stub also.
Sunrise Musical Theater, 1984.
Thanks for the ride.
Amazing performance!!!!!!!
THANKS FOR THE UPLOAD....EXCELLENT QUALLITY!!!!!!!!
Gilmour - Para sempre e sempre \\m//
Amazing performance 40 years ago!!! Happy new year, David Gilmour! (born at march 6, 1946).
Mick Ralphs Bad Company : other Strat.
Great song. Love both solo albums. Thanks for posting.
He and his sound inspired me as a guitar player.
Tasty soling by Mick Ralphs-one of the boys!
I always point to this and Coming Back To life when the falsehood of Gilmour's "poor" lyric writing ability is brought up. This song is adressed to Mark David Chapman for those wwho don't know.
It's not really a falsehood. David himself has said that he doesn't consider himself a very good songwriter, and that he didn't like very much of what he wrote for "About Face," with the exception of this song and maybe "You Know I'm Right."
He's actually pretty good. I have to wonder how much of his own lack of confidence in his own lyrics is thanks to Roger Waters. I can easily see him constantly being put down and belittled musically by Roger.
@@cubdukat
Apparently Dave is extremely humble.
@@cubdukatyeah and i think its unfair,
Roger is so powerful with metaphors and life changing messages, its really harsh to compare them, David can write good lyrics, hes just always going to be in the shadow of one of the greatest song writers in rock music.
He also wrote Childhoods End. One of my favorite Pink Floyd songs.
The One & Only Sir. D.G. (Deus ex Guitar)!!! Check his famous Black Strat here with the Kahler or maybe more friendly "Floyd Rose" tremolo bridge...great video Tania!!!🙏💙
When will David Gilmour officially released this concert on DVD and Blu-ray? This is the best band in concert he has ever done after the break up of the original Pink Floyd.
Saw this on TV way back then. David Gilmour at the Hammersmith Odeon. Why wasn't it saved? Classic!
Tight rhythm section here and David, well he's just David!
Absolute legend 😎🎶
Damn I love that bass line in opening!!!
Mikey took Pino’s bass line to another degree
Beautiful song.
I remember seeing this tour in 84 in Detroit with my buddies, Migdale & Watson....you know who your are. Its been along time and great memories to have.
Gilmour was amazing.
Don't ever say Gilmour can't shread. Ever
'saw this tour 1 month later at the Beacon Theater, NYC; beautiful song.
Absolutely amazing
Wow. Underrated song.
TROP 🤩🤩
Very good this, gives me shivers
Great recording, thanks for posting.
Legend
One of my favorites hard to find seems once i add to favs it disappears
SuperGilmour🎉🎉one more time
Was a great fukn show!!!! Was 15yrs old back in 84
That is awesome!!
Bass solo excellent!
I swear that David Gilmore guitar strings are attached to his soul
Beautiful!!!!
Awesome!
Amazing bass solo
Pino Palladino does one of the best bass solo's to accompany a song!
man that bass player was feeling it
Far and away my favorite sing from him or Pink Floyd
DANG!! Thank you!!
Thanks Tania!!!
Listen to this!
That fucking band !!!! Love ...
Other notable musicians here - Chris Slade on drums (AC/DC, Jimmy Page and others), Raphael Ravenscroft mustachioed keyboardist here but is a Sax player by trade, famous for being the sax player on Baker Street of Gerry Rafferty, Jody Linscott a percussionist who at least in those days played with and toured with everyone and anyone you can think of and lastly Gregg Dechert who had brief stints in latter day Bad Company and Uriah Heep.
Raphael Ravenscroft played sax on Pink Floyd's The Final Cut, and performed one of the most heartbraking soloes ever, in "The Gunner's Dream".
First saw Jody Linscott with the Who and fell in love with her.
That time Dave wemt back to basics and killed it!
of all the great sounding instruments in this band playing with David, why does the snare drum reach out to my ear so strongly?
It’s how the mix panned out. Got to remember, the source material is from the early 80’s. Don’t let it get you down, that’s Chris Slade- a very underrated drummer. It’s good to see him get to really belt out a rhythm with the likes of David Gilmour. Wish that collaboration would have lasted a bit longer... but I suppose fate brought us other gifts from David and Nick and Richard (RIP)...
Reminds me of college 1986
Reminds me of Gilmoour 84
Holy smokes the bass solo.
Bought it first day It came out. Speakers in window. Pioneer system cranked
Je trouvais que On The Turning Away était la chanson la plus sous côté de Gilmour... Mais celle ci est excellente!
it's a shame that David doesn't played About face songs on his last tours. It would be amazing if he play Murder and Until we Sleep in his presentations again.
He may now!! He has one more tour left!
@@brysteinberg1972 hardly he Will. He said once he doesn't like the old solo albuns
@IamAwake86 It's my opinion, I always recall that song when I listen to Murder, maybe for the vocal line, everyone thinks it wants...
Je t'aime ❤️
The Best Man bass The history pink floyd
Who is the lead guitarist and bass player I don’t think I know them
F for John Lennon
As good as ANYTHING the Floyd ever did!! ❤❤
@Davidekap I don't hear any flute here,lol
Pino on bass?
Chris Slade, Mick Ralphs and Raphael Ravenscroft is a pretty good backup
This bass solo is cool , but the studio version is more emotional, and by the way is more decent than the other version with Kenny Aaronson on bass.
Everyone has their FAVS and that’s cool. I prefer Mickey’s bass over Kenny’s.
Nobody can touch Pino, though
I just happened to see that other live performance with Kenny that you’re referring to. Yikes, I felt bad for him! Oh well. Like someone else had said I guess they were under rehearsed! 🤷🏻♂️
How! Power, anger and sentiment. Pure and utter command of the moment and so blasay. That's the point I guess, life dice in the hand and not comprehension on any level of what the roll can mean. Kill John, and imagine the impact.
Shakes. Ground.
Who’s on the bass? Is it Pino?
Michel Feat
👁El ojo
Ty 😢
I may be wrong but, I believe that's Pino Palladino on bass, he made so records in that time, he was the bass sound of the 80's
Hi, it's not Pino although he did play on the record! Mickey Feat is playing here, as others have posted. I like what Pino played more, but the solo Feat plays starts to grow on you! 👍
@@joeseymour4824 it didn’t grow on me…it was ma major improvement over the first touring bass players rendition
RIP Lennon.
Get on that whammy bar David!!🤪💭💭💭
does the full gig exist ?
Yea
This was from the CBS/Fox video "David Gilmour in Concert." Don't look for an official CD release of this, though; Sony never thought to do one, and considering how much DG hates "About Face," I wouldn't expect one.
80s pink f,old where's Roy harper with hangman
Bass player played some other version
He didn’t play a parody….thank Gawd…Mickey made it his own
Just found out this is about John Lennons murder
Damn. Without Pino...
Mickey made that bass his own and did better than the previous live bass player
anther evidence that roger without rick, nick and dave would be a psycho john denver out of tune
And vice versa with GilWhore and all his hired help to make subpar records later on just like Waters lame solo career
Good size crowd but not Pink Floyd size
Who cares? Of course not, it was at the Hammersmith Odeon (movie theater!). Rather there than in some stadium!
O outro baixista é melhor
mick ralphs of bad company on lead guitar.
Thx Genius
His sound and style inspired me as a guitar player.
@@psychodelicrock12 Mick Ralphs doesn’t have a signature sound…the Gilmour’s and May’s has that
Amazing song but huge letdown that David G isn't playing the solo. That other chap isn't up to the task.
??
Idiot
What are you talking about?? Gilmour is playing lead solo. The other chap?? That's Bad Company's & Mott the Hoople Mick Ralphs.
It's too similar to "thick as a brick" by Jethro Tull...
Fukoff
I hate the sound of fret less bass guitar.
I love it
David is using THE MOST UNDERRATED drummer is Rock nRoll and that is CHRIS SLADE
Try hard bass player
Mickey made that bass solo, his own….No offense to Pino…
