- This is Avatar Studio’s new Adult Aang movie. This is the flagship mobile game. And this is Netflix’s adaptation of the Last Airbender? What do they all have in common?
A bunch of lay offs.

I feel so bad for everyone this industry is horrible to employees:(
they are just laying off activists because activists lose a ton of money
I read an article from Paramount that was basically like they’re really pushing for Avatar and Spongebob to be like their defining animated projects. I think they’re definitely going to push for that adult animated movie to come out, and based on the reception of that, it will make or break Avatar Studios. Do you agree?
Yeah. It really does feel like everything will hinge on this movie. Hopefully it’s fantastic.
@@AntoineBandele I really wish they released comics for adult gaang in the meanwhile as we wait for the movie.
Ooo prequel adult comics would be fun! But unlikely since they’ve not been announced yet. And Avatar comics are notorious for how slow they take to come out.
The mismanaging of the Avatar franchise should be studied
FR FR
Avatar could have been the next Starwars. Shame.
@@LeBassDiaries After the massive success on OnePiece, I assumed that Netflix would have began to really stay on top of it for their live action series. ESPECIALLY AVATAR due to the multiple attempts to say that Avatar will become their next big show. I'm not going to lie, I had very little doubts for OnePiece, but watched it as a rough trial to see how well Netflix can adapt anime. However, I was blown away beyond what I could have ever expected. For that reason alone, I was beginning to have faith once again for Avatar. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that "we all want this to work in an entertainment stand point, and lore standpoint". Entertainment hinging on the aspect that the dialogue, acting, and bending are done right. And lore standing true to what we have grown to love, but at the same time, understanding that there is room for growth if done correctly rather than eliminating stories from the show that made it great to begin with.

I feel I was already skeptical with the creation of Avatar Studios, and the current state with Hollywood doesn’t help too much. Perhaps there isn’t too much of a connection between the two, but feel just with how history can tend to repeat itself, and how people like Brian Robbins is trying to make an ever so increasing franchise with Avatar, I feel plenty of bumps in the road might be expected, if not a bit inevitable. It’s a bit of a difficult topic as there hasn’t been much to witness yet from them.
I feel like Live action does not do justice to the world of Avatar, I feel like Avatar looks better and works better in Animation than in Real Life, but that's just me. A big problem Avatar Studio is facing is the same with most others. The industry is shrinking, the money is running dry now and so the big companies like Warner, Disney etc are going to be doing less shows now and tightening the belts as well.
In fact many of the writers just coming of the WGA strike are coming back to little to no work for many of them, and most of them ain't getting their contracts renewed either when they're are up for renewal. The whole industry is going on a budget cut.
Budget cuts for sure 😞
It's hard to say for sure at this point, it seems as though the layoffs are industry wide at the moment so it could just be a coincidence. But I am preparing myself for the ATLA live action to be a 1 and done season.
I’m preparing for one and done as well.
And yes, there are industry lay offs right now, presumably because of the strikes.
Given how long the wait has been between the actors' last day of filming and the presumed release date of early 2024, I think the numbers would have to be Squid Game level or the acclaim would have to be at Crown level in order for Netflix to think the cost of special effects was worth it.
They'd be wise to step up their merch game since it's how Disney and Nick make a lot of their income. I have a Scoops Ahoy T-shirt from Hot Topic that I bought in 2019, but that's the only merch I've ever seen in a store or online from a Netflix property.
Dang avatar is my childhood show. I hope it stays afloat 😭😭
fr I was so worried when I read the title
I think avatar going to turn into one of those franchises that started really good and is only going to get worse. Like when they milk something too much
🐮
Yup just like marvel
@@exoticeditz8863But what makes it worse is that the, “Avatar Franchise”, didn’t reach its peak in terms of movies, shows, games, ect. The franchise ended the same year Aang defeated Ozai…. In 2008 💀. I think “ATLA” was the PEAK for this franchise/verse.
We have barely got anything 😂
No
I’m sure we will get to see an Adult Anyang movie, but I have little hope for a new animated series ever actually seeing the light of day, and truly believe the live action show will be cancelled after one season, if not cancelled before airing at all.
Definitely not getting cancelled before Season One, which has already been shot. I’ve always been doubtful on a second season though.
Ahh man this is not what I wanted to hear
I think this is a sign from the universe not to keep trying to touch a masterpiece 😂 at this point all I want is one GOOD 2 hr animates movie of the Gang older.
Just one! 😭
This is sad to hear. I hope the people who got layed off find another job soon
😞
It's been so long since they announced Avatar Studios and they still haven't dropped ANY content, not even a teaser.
No animated content but they’ve been doing everything else: novels, comics, rpgs, games, etc.
When it comes to stories like this live action will never be as good animation. Especially the action scenes
As a Avatar nerd since day 1, I'm pretty confident, that the Avatar Studios will be successfull, because Konietzko and Dante DiMartino are more independent now and have the opportunity to focus on what they love to do: extend the Avatar universe and create new storys. The reason why "The Legend of Korra" had so much trubble was, because they were sabotaged so much by Nickelodeon in terms of financing and releases. I don't see any reason why this first movie shouldn't be a great success, regarding the fact that the whole community is waiting for more "original" content since Korra ended
Yup yup. We talk about that here: ua-cam.com/video/67cQxukxlRc/v-deo.htmlsi=gk8AgauU357iBAdg
I hope that once they finally get some new content out, everything will be on the up and up 😁
Same same. This first movie has got to be a homer. At least a solid triple.
No company deserves your loyalty a week notice is more than enough and the start of this shows this
Yeah, good lesson for those going into the workforce.
i feel like i have a really unpopular opinion because while avatar is my favorite show and i absolutely adore it, i really do not want it to be a franchise. i don't want so many spinoffs and adaptations and everything for the show because i think it was perfect as is and any new content will be disappointing. the story was excellent, it did what it meant to do, and that's it. leave it alone. not giving stories and worlds an ending always ends up killing them for me. at some point, you just have to let it go and that's part of what makes it so great
All we want is more animation with good directing thats it. We could care less about all this other stuff
I thought Avatar Studio was hiring new animators like crazy? And why would Netflix's avatar live action and freakin One Piece be such a determining factor in layoffs at Avatar studio when they're two completely different entities. I can't make sense of anything in this video.
They might be hiring less expensive animators and artists, and letting go others to make space. And with One Piece it’s a case of focusing efforts. Especially if Netflix is hurting for cash right now after the strikes.
@@AntoineBandele I get how they save money with junior animators. But Netflix's One Piece overshadowing the Avatar live action when we don't have a trailer yet ? And that being a threat to Avatar Studio's animated movie (a different projet by a different company) even farther in the future ? There are many dots and too few connections between them. If Netflix's live action book 1 flops it could hurt the hype for the upcoming adult Gaang movie but the live action has already been filmed post prod should be done or mostly done by now. Hundreds of million invested (even more expensive that GoT, filmed on an even bigger green screen than the Mandalorian's). They've be teasing for YEARS. They'll do everything to make it as popular as possible.
It’s really going to do with marketing. As we’ve been seeing with the box office since the actors strike, films have been suffering without adequate marketing.
That’s why certain projects get buried on Netflix. Because people don’t know to search for them.
😢😢😢
Some franchises should be left as they are. The last Airbender is great and I enjoy the legend of korra and there are books and comics.
Do we really need more?
The world is rather expansive. More stories can be told in the timeline. Kyoshi books are a prime example.
@@AntoineBandele I'm just worried about the good being ruined or retconned.
I always wanted an Earthbender Avatar. Nothing after that is strictly necessary
@@marktwayne9796 I can agree with that but I see it working as a video game at this point cell shaded artstyle, engaging combat, the narrative be in the form of chronicles like ultimate ninja storm generation character stories.
Whats happening is they want to whitewash the Netflix live action series, thus layoffs ...
Huh!?
@@AntoineBandele they think it can't be or won't be or don't want it to be successful without them...
Huh!?
@@AntoineBandele don't worry about it
No No No No, no, this can't be happening. I don't want this to happen. THE AVATAR STUDIOS should never fail. I can't let this happen! I can't.
you have no idea what is going on bts at Avatar Studios..your singular fanatical loyalty doesn't amount to anything
It was simply too good to be true
Are Netflix employees apart of thew strikes?
Not necessarily.
Depends if the Writers/employees are WGA members or not.
Can't believe they are considering one piece a golden child... any slight success is considered a golden child lol, personally hated that show, why cant you make multiple decent quality shows lol
THIS!
Though, I haven't seen One Piece (as I don't have Netflix right now), so I can't speak to that.
Not really worried, but that's in large part because I lost interest in the franchise for sometime during my first watch of Korra Season 2. I just lost interest, nothing in Korra made me stop watching out of disdain, I just never followed up on it. That being said, I have my opinions on that series, but as for the topic of this video, I'm not worried just out of casual interest alone, but primarily due to the fact that I have a hunch it'll be all okay in the end. I just hope those people who got layed off are okay.
Oh, man. You dropped right before one of the best seasons in all of Avatar.
@@AntoineBandele The best part is, I kinda remember where I left off XD It was just after Korra's uncle went evil-avatar. Sorry there.
This is so disappointing and sad to hear
Hopefully it just means a scale back and more focus on that first movie.
I dont care as long as 2025 movie is still on track 😢
Still on track (as far as we know)!
The triby again screwing our beloved franchise
Triby?
First :))
I think there must have been failures in visioning such a big upscaling in the avatar verse (too many different projects) that just get out of hand in numbers. Its quite a start up phenomenon that repeats itself, so their plan must be kind of focussing on the essentials (avatar aang movie + new avatar) which will be the main goal again and then when actual numbers start to come in, they will gradually pick up on side projects
So yeahh Im super chill about it, I think theyre choosing quality over quantity and just scaled it to right proportions (I hope😂)
Cant wait for the movie and the next avatar to come out!! 🫶🏻💕
I'm guessing the same. Just scale back on projects. Not doing everything at once. One at a time (which is smarter anyway). I would say the things that are most likely to be still be intact are the Aang and Zuko movies. And I'd be surprised if the Earth Avatar series gets dropped (but it's possible at this point).
No this isnt just a bump in the road. The reality is Avatar is an older franchise, and unlike One Piece, hasnt really had anything but a few comics and a couple novels in the past decade. I felt this whole Avatar Studio thing was going to fail..... and I didn't want it to, but here we are
I’m a bit less grim on this overall. It troubling to hear for sure. But I think this movie could be pretty dope.
I mean, One Piece is a lot older. It came out in 1999…
But yeah, call me crazy, but I can’t wait for the LA ATLA. It’ll be different, but I strongly believe it will have the same heart as the show. I don’t care about whatever changes they make, I’m stoked to see it. Like, One Piece wasn’t exactly a 1 to 1 anime adaptation. Sure, it changed some things, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless! So yeah, I’m pretty hopeful for the live action. :)
@@Jaiso like i said, one piece is still relevant with an ongoing story
@@MyLittleGreenHairdedMermaid Yeah! I thought you were saying One Piece isn’t an older franchise. I think I might have read your message wrong. 😅
After so many years this crap netflix didnt release any trailer yet. Maybe in summer 2027 if we are lucky 🫡
not looking good for a lot of studios one UA-cam channel i watched made a good point just because the wga got a good deal doesn't mean tne corps won't lay off tons of ppl and green light less shows to make up for said deal.
There are pros and cons to everything.
@@AntoineBandele Yeah. Sadly, this will impact not only the quality of the shows we get but the quantity. On-top of that the ones that are suffering aren't the big name showrunners but the smaller writers that only get their names in credits. It's going to be pretty weird checking to see what new animated series are coming only to see like 4-5 shows(If that) for the entire year.
If you actually look deeper into what the Studios are planning to do post WGA strike you will likely thing this 'victory' for the writers is a long term defeat.
The Studios have already declared they're going to limit show numbers, cut down on episodes per season. And the more devastating hit for the Writers, many contracts are not getting renewed once they're finished. Hollywood are doing a major shrinkage it seems, and many writers are on the chopping block in the 1-3 years as their contracts end.
The Studios had this all planned out during the strike months.
Happy for now, much sad later.
It kinda feels like Nickelodeon kills it in their own network. But completely lack the foresight and skills to ever extend beyond it for whatever reason. They need Disney channel originals to start hitting again so they have competition they can understand and grow from lol
yeah they've made HOW MANY insufferable sit-coms?
just about ruined SpongeBob...
and all it's actually good shows get canceled.
I know I'll get hated on for this but I don't care.
Live action sucks. The Las air bender movie that we had once before really sucked. I think if they don't make the a live action I think should be fine.
I don’t think it sucked _because_ it was live action, but because it was poorly directed and horribly cast.
@@AntoineBandele yeh true. But I really don't like anything live action.
I just hate how some companies take up projects that they can't handle and short one group.
An animation studio did that to Hell's Paradise and might be to Chainsaw man (because it didn't get as much popularity in 12 episodes than another show got in 24ep + movie) JJK is obviously their bread and butter and I have a feeling it is going to short the other two shows.
This seems like it is happening to One Piece and ATLA... instead of laying out a 5 year plan they rush it all in a couple years and jump ship to the ship that is still sailing.
😢
Well… as my life has gone to shit I feel like it’s quite unsurprising that my favorite franchise is too.
It might be a sign that Avatar should just be a one and done franchise. The comics don’t progress much, Korra is very divided amongst fans, any games we get never look good, the live-action stuff is always racially wrong in some way, and anyone that’s worked on Avatar, and tried creating their own shows has never done that well amongst fans (TDP & Voltron). It’s probably best to just hang it up at this point… but who knows maybe things will clear up soon and we get positive news/details.
What about the the Kyoshi/Yangchen books? Those seem to be generally accepted positively
Yup. It’s possible to make great Avatar stories. Just need the right team together.
The problem is not the Universe/franchise itself, But those working with the world that are. With great creators it could become a Gem again, it just needs more refined hands on the clay you could say.
@@Karas540 I’d say the Kyoshi books are. But they’re mostly known by the fans, the GP has very minimal knowledge about any Avatar related media aside from Aang.
No way! The comics are great and so is Korra!
Netflix has already spent hundred million dollars on avatar franchise and thats excluding the loss they incurred during the strike. Netlfix doesn't have one project going. All these years we have seen people rallying behind multiple shows. The big IF is whether avatar can reach the benchmark of one piece. If it does, netlfix wont mind spending on both. They are already watching witcher ship sink.
This. Should be room for both (so long at ATLA live action does well for Netflix).
The avatar movie is what's really going to matter. The live action remake of atla show is going to be terrible but people will probably shovel that shit down anyways
I think the live action has a shot to at least be solid. The movie has to be better than average though!
About the live action no i'm not worried the game That's two years yeah i'm worried i'm moving in a couple months
If only they would focus on doing stuff the fans actually want... the animation was always Avatar strong but they keep insisting on shitty licensed games and love actions
Exactly.
I am starting to wish your videos were longer
😂 for why? Typically the retention on these videos say they need to be shorter.
My VS video coming out soon will be pretty long though.
Can you talk about the poopshow that is Avatar Quest for Balance? What a disappointment
You can see me thoughts on that here: ua-cam.com/video/4Gfi3x-GEFY/v-deo.htmlsi=cxOWlqzDS9RDxM42 and here: ua-cam.com/video/ThzXF9KPfHs/v-deo.htmlsi=Dv5Kn_HYTna1g-5b (in the comments)
Great job with this video👍
Thanks! All I did was give my thoughts on what has been brought up in the fandom 😂
At least the 2025 adult team avatar movie seems to be doing alright, it's the project that I am most excited for
So far nothing bad has come out about it. 🤞🏾
At the end of the day, I don’t expect much out of Avatar Studios. I can say with damn good confidence that they can do very little to outright kill off the franchise. Paramount spent *years* self-sabotaging the franchise with Korra and the franchise is still “going strong.” Braving the Elements is still ongoing, Cons get plenty of people out and about, Avatar Legends (the TTRPG) smashed Kickstarter records (even if it is a rather substandard TTRPG, IMO/IME when compared to other games out there like Blades in the Dark, Brindlewood Bay, and Agon 2e), and Avatar Generations has- I’m certain- plenty of Downloads.
So if the franchise is still going strong even after how much Paramount/ Nick sabotaged Korra? The franchise will continue going on as long as it needs to. Star Trek went on for **years** surviving solely on syndication before The Next Generation was a thing and the first 3 seasons of TNG were a hot mess and Trek was off the air with new stuff for *a while* after Enterprise until Disco came around… and even with substandard episodes of Disco and Strange New Worlds (which is better than Disco by leaps and bounds, IMO) and Picard… Trek keeps going strong
Of course, I don’t expect Trek to reach the heights it did with TNG’s later seasons or some of the brilliant things it did with DS9. It’s the same way I don’t expect Avatar Studios to stick the landing with any of their “modern” stuff. I expect the Adult Gaang movie will flop, the Netflix live action will disappoint, and so on.
Obviously it’s unfortunate because Paramount really has no idea what the hell people want and their capacity to advertise and support is absolute dog crap. The Chronicles of the Avatar books are some of the best (if not THE best) Avatar-verse media to have come out since ATLA. They are the “Adult Avatar” media we longed for with Korra and never really got… and the advertisement and hype for them are nonexistent! I mean TikTok had that f’ing “Lightlark” book that got circulated around and that book is hot garbage! Yet it got plenty of copies sold because of good ‘ol savvy marketing and that’s something Paramount has never figured out.
Anyway, long story short:
- The Avatar Franchise ain’t gonna implode. ATLA will always still be there. It’ll always be great. There will be plenty of fans for it now and in the years to come
- But don’t expect any modern things for Avatar to capture the same magic due to the overall mishandling and poor business decisions of Paramount.
And most don't even realize that best Avatar story isn't in the shows. It's in the Kyoshi books imo.
@@AntoineBandele Exactly! ATLA is my favorite TV show of all time
But the Kyoshi Novels are my favorite Avatar stories of the whole franchise. They are incredibly good and unfortunately so darn obscure in terms of marketing. There is a certain charm with the Graphic Novels, but F. C. Yee has done something really special with those books. He’s like the Dave Filoni of Avatar (in some ways, at least. Filoni goes a little too hard with nostalgia when it comes to Star Wars, but at least he **knows** what makes Star Wars tick and Yee **knows** what makes the Avatar-verse tick)
The Yangchen Novels aren’t *as* stellar as the Kyoshi Novels (but they’re still *really* damn good and I have the biggest damn smile on my face when I read or listen to them). I haven’t heard if Yee will continue with the franchise, but I really hope he does. It’s great stuff.
Live-Action Avatar is like trying to grab the third rail. The stomach detour is critical.
Never heard that expression before. Stomach detour 🧐
Where is Mike and Bryan
Working on the movie. They don’t have 100% say on who gets let go.
I honestly just wish they had stopped after the release of North and South (and excluding the Korra comics, since I absolutely despise those too). It’s been a while since the franchise’s resurgence in popularity in 2020, and at this point it just seems like they’re milking the franchise.
Can't really milk the franchise if you're not putting much out, LOL
@@AntoineBandele I was talking more about the comics and the Kyoshi novel, but still, fair enough 💀
Hello avatar generations for me is glitching also I’m mad because I wanted to see if the live action show is better than the live action movie
I think it’s safe to assume the show will be better than the movie.
