Right on ... thank you T.
You answered a bunch of questions I had. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Glad we could help out! We have a more of these vids for each state in the works. Be on the lookout!
@@GOHUNT definitely want this especially Montana
Great information thanks keep them coming
Thanks for watching! We will have a video like this for each state. Be on the look out!
Very good, thank you. Looking forward to videos for other states.
You bet! Arizona will be the next one!
Great video. My son and I are putting in for antelope this year 🙏🏼🤞🏻.
Best of luck to you and your son in the draw Kevin!
Remember that Wyoming hunt areas have different numbers for each species.....so don't use the deer numbers for Antelope.....I may have done that....drew the tags and the second area was 5 hrs away from the first!!!
I am late to the party. LOL Can you explain how Wyoming "Walk in Hunting" and "Hunter Management Areas" work for non-residents? What is the cost and are they worth a try? Looks like applications do not start until July 13 for Hunter Management Areas. Thanks
just hunt in wildness area i do you paid for it . larry reed
🦌❤️🇺🇸
If its gonna take longer than 5 years go to ALASKA CANADA or abroad NEW ZEALAND
Wyoming seems far more reasonable than Idaho
Do you have to apply for a hunt in order to buy pts in the summer time or can you just save some effort and buy pts if you are in the early stages of planning a trip?
You can buy points only in the summer, July 1 to Nov 1. No need to apply in this draw if you only want to gain a point for the future.
TRAIL...ON AVERAGE HOW MANY POINTS DO YOU NEED TO DRAW IN A HIGHLY SAUGHT AFTER UNIT IN WYOMING FOR BULL ELK TAG?
High demand trophy caliber hunts will require 15 and some real luck to go along with your points. There are hunts available with less butay require a guide to hunt wilderness or some research and land navigation skills to work within the private public land mix
How many preferences points can you buy in one year for elk?
Only one.
this may not be true for non residents but the general elk season is not a type 1 hunt for a resident. type 1 and general tags are completely different and follow a different set of regulations. Some units have a type 1 and a general tag. For example my elk tag last year was a type 1 limited quota in unit that has a general tag, the difference is my season dates started earlier went later. In addition to all the numbers general is also a hunt type or license type in the regs.
You are correct that there are units that have both general seasons limited quota type 1 or 9 or perhaps other hunts but one of the most common questions we get is about the weapon /season which the type 1, 2 general and some others are rifle licenses and in many cases you could bowhunt with the purchase of the OTC archery stamp/license..whereas the type 9 is archery specific
Can 2 people apply together for same unit and species for better chances of both drawing a tag.
No, applying with another person doesn’t increase your odds
@@grammoore3348 Thanks
Wyoming will allow up to six people to apply on a party application for elk. Residents and nonresidents may not apply together in a party application. Party applications have their preference points averaged out to the fourth decimal point. For example, a party application of three hunters with five, three and two preference points will go into the draw with 3.3333 points. The party is treated as a single application and, if it’s drawn, all members of the party will receive a license. Wyoming will allocate permits over the hunt quota to cover a party application, so there is no decrease in odds for group applicants.
Is there a state that doesn’t have point creep?
Any state that has a preference point or a bonus point / hybrid system where they offer permits to high point holders can have point creep. There are some hunts in this states.. Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona that are not seeing creep and there are enough permits to meet demand currently. Those are more opportunity type of hunts not managed for trophy caliber animals. You would need to review the detailed draw odds pages of the hunts you are considering to see the trend over the past several years. States like Idaho, New Mexico do not have a point system at all. Montana and Nevada have bonus point random systems so you are not seeing creep in the same way but you are still seeing more people applying and somewhat decreasing odds
Technically any state w/o preference points won’t have point creep….but you still have “application creep” where the odds will get worse at a given point level overtime.. this can be seen in states like MT, NV, and AZ.
With ID and NM not having points you will still see some creeping going on, but just in the odds getting worse for some hunts as they gain popularity.
Can you use any firearms to hurt?
Yes, in Wyoming you can use firearms to hunt depending on the tag.
@@GOHUNT from what I was told, you could use any firearms for hunting but the calibre cannot be smaller than the specified size.
First
Curse you!!!
Thank you for your continued effort in ruining our chances to draw a tag in this great state.
