- The outrageous Nissan March of Glenn Hodges was once again at Leadfoot Festival, now faster than ever. Converted into a 4WD, Mid-engined Monster, the VQ35DETT powered machine is now producing 650Hp/700Nm to all 4 wheels, capable of a 0-100Km/h sprint in little over 2 seconds, despite still using a H-pattern Gearbox. Driven by Touring Car Racing Legend Paul Radisich, this was the 11th Fastest Car at the event, narrowly missing the final Top 10 Shootout.
For those unaware, this is a creation of Glenn Hodges of The Lab Limited in New Zealand, a former Aircraft Technician, who set out to transform the innocent Nissan March into a Group B of the Modern Era. Using mainly Nissan parts for all the project, we have here a 350GT Skyline engine aided by a pair of Garrett GT2860RS turbochargers. Power is then transferred to the 4 wheels through a late model D22 Navara five speed gearbox, with brakes from the 370Z and much more. @@kiwijzx9475 Yip that's correct, a mate and I had already discussed in detail various options for the build.
I had come up with VQ35DE+TT in the back transverse mounted RWD OR longitudinally mounted 4WD.
Had a wee Google search and found it had been done by RML in RWD. Researched some details, got it done, blew gearbox twice, converted to 4WD :)
And it's a MANUAL... That's gotta be a handful to drive.
For proper drivers for sure ;)
You should add a pneumatic paddle shifter to the steering column.
Ofcourse its manual
Especially with how small those fucking gears are this could be done in most 3rd gear cars. Dude was going 1-4 on this small track
@@koettfaers Why do you say of course it's manual?! It could quite easily be sequential, in fact I'm surprised it's not. Faster gear changes. Fact. And if you use paddles, then hands on wheel all the time. Better. Don't get me wrong, I love a manual, but in a micra with 650bhp, there's no way I wouldn't go sequential with paddle shift. My opinion.

When the turbos spool for good this car moves FAST. Like, REALLY FAST, IT'S SCARY.
This mighty micra would destroy the Goodwood Hill at the Festival of speed. I’d love to see this V6 Micra go up against the Aston Martin V8 Cygnet or an old school 6r4.
Metro 6r4 lives on in spirit with this amazing car
205 T16 trumps the 6R4 in my book, although they're both insane and I'd happily have either! Or both!

I swear driving a stock nissan march feels like this because it's right at the edge of it's abilities taking a gentle curve at 100kph on SH1
HA ha ha ha!!! often the most fun is had in a slow car being driven at a moderate pace, fast cars become boring at normal speeds :)

Barely 1/4 throttle used . I’d like to see this car on a track using wide open throttle. Impressive driving keeping that thing rained in .
Here ya go mate, last session in this video I opened her up a bit more, only running 14PSI boost in this video, bumped it up after resolving a couple of minor set up issues in the tune.

The way it looks in the turns, the weight ratio must be spot on
About 618kgs on the rear axle and 600 on the front, might have changed a little with some minor tweaks it's had but it wont be far off that.
This build is impressive, I wrapping a v6, tr os and the 4wd layout to that tiny ass body, and still making it look cute.
Nissan micra will never have more than 27 BHP . Its a dream

No, the engine of the R35 GT-R is the VR38DETT. This is the VQ35, as used on the 350Z, here with 2 Turbos added ;)

We have talked about a sequential box, there are a few reasons why we haven't but really the big one is the money involved, we do have good support from sponsors but this car is essentially privately funded. Our biggest sponsor supplied the gearbox it has off their shelf and I think in some ways even though it could go quicker with a sequential box it's probably more fitting to use an OEM Nissan unit. (at this stage) :)

that's quite the slow shifting but that shifter looks reluctant to go anywhere..
It is literally a truck gearbox (small pickup/ute depending on your country) so high speed shifting isn't a great idea, while it MIGHT work most of the time, if it rejects a shift and you end up needing to put power down but can't select a gear ..... not going to end well.
It's the same family of gearbox as the R32 & 33 GTR, the Z32 300ZX and the RB25DET powered Skylines, none are well known for high speed shifting.

I remember a similar micra was built a few years ago ,just like this 1 by a group of students as a project ,I wonder is this it ?
Nope, this is 100% our creation from start to finish. Nismo UK had one built by RML that was RWD in east west config and with no turbos but that's the closest thing to this one I know of. there was a black one built with Mitsubishi EVO running gear that is probably faster but deff not as cool :)
@@TheLabLimited yeah the nizmo car ,that's the one, i think it had a btcc primera engine in the back of it ,I don't think it was half as developed as this though It's a beast !
@@johntomas5170 Yip started life with a four cyl BTCC eng and sequential box, was a bit hard for media to drive so they pulled that lot out and fitted a VQ35DE with six speed manual H pattern box.
HUGE money went into that car as I understand it, our car not so much money but a lot of time and effort :)

@@h.a.martin958 if you just stuck with the RWD conversion like RML did for Nismo it's actually not all that complicated.
Buy a Maxima, chop the entire front end out of it including strut towers and subframe mounts etc and then graft it into the back of the March.
adjust spring rates etc to suit.

Sascha on Speed Academy achieved 600hp atw from 4.2 NA VQ no supercharging. Here in Japan 600hp with small supercharger and good tuning from stock vq is common.
How to add power to my k12. 1.5 diesel?
With today's latest technology in nanostructures and ionic propulsion I could make a rear spoiler thruster for a twin-turbo rear-engine rear exhaust 2 flex pipe to Dyson windfoil rear spoiler made from titanium and negative sheet of graphite and positive carbon fiber or nanotubes nanowire for single carbon atom exhaust bern ion jet thrust active rear spoiler.
