650Hp Nissan March/Micra V6 || VQ35 Twin Turbo, 4WD Swap - Leadfoot Festival 2018

- This outrageous thing is the craziest Nissan March you will ever see. It is powered by a VQ35DETT engine mounted in rear-central position producing 650Hp/700Nm, it´s 4 Wheel Drive and competed on the last Leadfoot Festival at the hands of accomplished Touring Car driver Paul Radisich.
This is a creation of Glenn Hodges of The Lab Limited in New Zealand, a former Aircraft Technician, who set out to transform the innocent Nissan March into a Group B of the Modern Era. Using mainly Nissan parts for all the project, we have here a 350GT Skyline engine aided by a pair of Garrett GT2860RS turbochargers. Power is then transferred to the 4 wheels through a late model D22 Navara five speed gearbox, with brakes from the 370Z and much more that we would have to spend all day to explain.
We won´t for now as that will be for another video and another day, where a more in depth look of this machine wil be made. For now, let´s appreciate how it attacked Leadfoot Festival´s Hillcimb in its very first competitive outing, while almost securing a place in the Overall Top 10.

This is the coolest Micra that I've seen in my life! The body.. the engine.. the 4WD.. the power.. It's so complete!

@@liverush24 Yep, wouldn't be surprised if the 6R4 played some part in inspiring this build. Small light car, rear engine, 4wd. Admittedly the 6R4 started off with a N/A engine. But 0 to 60mph was around 3 seconds !

This surprising arrangement of rear mounted engine in a Nissan Micra was excited and appreciated. Wishing I could have a chance to be a driver or pilot-passenger on it.
My Micra has 80hp and its already funny to drive, this one must be heaven on earth.

Damn. He def took inspiration from the Nissan 350 SR Micra.
It was also a 350Z swapped March/Micra that is RWD mid mounted. But no turbo.
It blows my mind to this this car AWD swapped from a pickup drivetrain.
This might be a perfect rally car build.
Wouldn't the wheelbase be too short? My unstanding was that the shorter the wheelbase the less control the driver has while cornering?
@@TheDarkFalcon if the suspension is tuned right it better for rotation of the weight during cornering which is idea for rally stages.
@@linchester8464 A great suspension setup is a must for rally stages and hillclimbs.

The track doesn't do this car justice, it needs space to let it's wheels really let loose, absolutely crazy car, now if only They could bring the weight down to around 900KG, then it'd be competing for the top spots
IT is an ever evolving thing and this was just its very first participation on Leadfoot Festival. So chances are we will see it again but, dialed in and leaned out ;)
Almost sounded like they could gear it down for that course, alot.
If something is worth doing then it's worth overdoing. Beast is not a word commonly associated with Micras.

The engine is mid mounted similar to the MR2 or the older Nissan 350 SR Micra.
just see the ap4 class in asia pasific rally they use a fwd or rwd cars and then swapped into a awd cars like a mirage

@@linchester8464 jeez what gearbox and driveline did they use? It seems like it would be such a pain since nothing Nissan was ever mid-engine and awd. Maybe just has a ton of custom parts?

Nice setup but 3,5L Twin Turbo. SR20VET Single Turbo 500HP lighter and more revving.
VQ35DE weighs less than a SR20. That's why I'm putting one in my racecar. I was surprised, but alloy vs cast iron.

A few thousand attend, scattered around in the trees, on the hill sides in the paddocks and in the pits with the cars, not all that pricey to attend and a great event :)

Thats cool out of an engineering point of view but not the fastest layout. Prob, would have been faster as a longitudinally midmounted NA tuned, with a sequential.
Always possible, but whatever the layout, they all need time to be developed until reaching full potential. And this was the very first time this machine tried Hillclimb Racing 👍
