Great exposure, love the 100D look. great eye for details, that's for sure. There seem to be a focus issue throughout your Bolex videos. It's exacerbated further when watched on a larger screen than that of an I-phone. Your videos shot with the Keystone A-12 camera look a lot sharper and in focus, almost on par or even better that the ones you filmed with the Arri. It goes to show that fancier/more expensive brands don't necessarily mean better. Love your documenting daily life in Japan. Thanks for sharing your art and vision with the rest of us.

This is shot in the DS8 Super8 format and stretched 1.5 times horizontally due the anamorphic adapter. I used a non focusing adapter so it’s a little soft. The keystone A12 is 16mm in its native 4:3 aspect ratio. I Also used a switar non rx lens on on the A12 . 16mm will always be sharper than 8mm also when you see super8 film the usually include the sprocket hole which compresses the image to fit the frame making it appear sharper by comparison.

Did you buy the E100 DS8 film from Pro8mm? I’ve been looking for DS8 film on 100’ reels and so far Foma Film has been the only DS8 I’ve purchased. I had hoped FPP had DS8 but they only had B&W stock. 50’ reels seems to be the norm. I did not check at Pro8mm though. Nice footage!

Yes pro8m. But they sold out. On8mm in England still sells it with or without processing included.

Great footage. But: why did you reduce the grain? Would you consider sharing the original footage without grain reduction? I admire and respect your footage, though. But really encourage you to share it! Also: are you doing any color correction?

I do it to make the footage look cleaner. I might upload a shorter version without any digital processing if my house power comes back on after the hurricane here in Houston. Regards!

I, too, hope it comes back on.
I love celluloid film because of grain. The sterility of Digital film has severely impacted my willingness to watch new movies for the past decade (or more).
The grain, in my opinion, makes it worthwhile.
I strongly encourage you to consider posting OG footage without Noise/Grain reduction.

Ps: so many people will appreciate the grain.
Also: Vimeo uploads video data much, much better than UA-cam. Grain is more intact and "free".
