Shot on my Bolex Reflex RX4 DS8 with the Vario-Switar 8-36mm Zoom Lens and my 1.5 Anamorphic adapter. Mercer Garden, Spring TX April 2024. The image is a little soft due to the non-focusing anamorphic adapter. Film was rated 80 ISO to insure proper exposure of the E100D Ektachrome film. Transferred on my DIY Blackfly-S based frame by frame telecine. Processed by Pro8mm.

      I, too, hope it comes back on. I love celluloid film because of grain. The sterility of Digital film has severely impacted my willingness to watch new movies for the past decade (or more). The grain, in my opinion, makes it worthwhile. I strongly encourage you to consider posting OG footage without Noise/Grain reduction.

    Great exposure, love the 100D look. great eye for details, that's for sure. There seem to be a focus issue throughout your Bolex videos. It's exacerbated further when watched on a larger screen than that of an I-phone. Your videos shot with the Keystone A-12 camera look a lot sharper and in focus, almost on par or even better that the ones you filmed with the Arri. It goes to show that fancier/more expensive brands don't necessarily mean better. Love your documenting daily life in Japan. Thanks for sharing your art and vision with the rest of us.

    • @paulcotto
      @paulcotto 20 днів тому

      This is shot in the DS8 Super8 format and stretched 1.5 times horizontally due the anamorphic adapter. I used a non focusing adapter so it’s a little soft. The keystone A12 is 16mm in its native 4:3 aspect ratio. I Also used a switar non rx lens on on the A12 . 16mm will always be sharper than 8mm also when you see super8 film the usually include the sprocket hole which compresses the image to fit the frame making it appear sharper by comparison.

    Hi I stumbled across your video d scribing this Elmo system for sound synchronisation. I have a similar system manufactured by the Japanese company Chinon. As you say following the demise of super 8 sound cartridges we find ourselves looking again to these old synchronisation Systems. It can prove challenging to acquire all the required components of such a system...like you it took me several years to track down the components of my Chinon system. Thankfully I managed to find the special cable to connect camera and tape recorder.....I didn't have to make my own as you did... congratulations on that achievement. The DS8 camera uses 16mm wide film with super8 perforations. 8mm uses 16mm wide film with 8mm perforations

    So, regular or Double 8 uses 16-mm film, but perforation is different? And DS8 uses 16-mm with Super 8 perforation? And Super 8 perforation is different to Double 8 perforation?

    Even looks like Super 35 with the space for the soundtrack used.

    Awesome! I have a rex5 with the angenieux 12-120. I have been wondering about an anamorphic adapter option for it. What did you use to adapt the anamorphic adapter to the lens? Do you have any sample footage you have shot with this setup online? Do you set the 12-120 to infinity and only focus on the sirui? Thanks!

      I used a standard thread adapter to mount the. SIRUI. The taking lens is set to infinity and you focus with the SIRUI. Here is some recent footage. ua-cam.com/video/rEe1adKL-0E/v-deo.html

      Looks great. So no vignetting at 12mm? Can you open up the lens fully and still retain sharpness? Considering buying one of these adapters for my angenieux 12-120 & bolex rx5setup@@paulcotto

    Hello May I ask, optimistically, is that lens good enough? Was it just for prototyping, and have you replaced it, or are you still happy with it? I have not bought one off Amazon before, it is cheap, but then again internet things often are cheap and still good. Also, will it go in far enough for 8mm film do you think? No harm if not sure about that question. Thank you very much, Braith

      Check out my 16mm 4K film transfers on my channel. They were all done with this lens.

    Hi Paul, thanks for your videos, they are very good. I wanted to ask you a question, in your previous video you talk about an external 12 volt battery with a spiral cable. In this video you use another cable, do you still use that M12 power solution battery or do you use another type of battery like a V lock ?

    • @paulcotto
      @paulcotto 5 місяців тому

      I use the M12 for 100’ and a larger battery for 400’. I made a custom brick battery of 10AA X 2 NiMh batteries.

    I had to make it myself from the one that came with the lens.
