Can't believe Fionna & Cake took Betty's note to Simon and made it such a beautifully tragic moment

One thing I love about rewatching Adventure Time is recognising all these references! They took something that was only mentioned, not shown, back in Season 8 - and made it into one of the greatest and most tragically beautiful moments in all of Adventure Time!
Episodes are AT S8 E1 "Broke His Crown" and F&C E8 "Jerry"
Remember how he said he would have liked to punch Marceline's ex, and yet he did when he took his flying carpet in the Betty episode?
damn bro
Yeah it was great! ^^
Simon's the best Dad ever
Wait he did?!? XD
XD I honestly never connected the two when he said he'd punch her ex. He really did lol
Peep how when they hug and he swings her around, they go from standing on literal equal footing to Betty being twirled around to a lower step! So while they’re still in love, this marks a distinct solidification of their unequal dynamic. Her, devoting herself to his dreams and adventures while he (unintentionally) doesn’t reciprocate.
I actually viewed it as them being destined to be separate forever, to use lemongrabs analogy, each of them take a turn to be at the top of the Ziggurat while the other climbs the stairs infinitely
When Simon arrives he is on the lower footing signifying he is the one climbing the stairs trying to reach the top, when he reaches the top they are equal for a few seconds until Betty is on the lower step showing she would climb the stairs for him.
When Betty leaves because Simon is going kinda crazy, Betty has once again reached the top while Simon is climbing but now an infinite set of stairs until he goes super off the deep end into insanity and Betty begins to look for him, their positions once again switched, Betty is now climbing the infinite set of stairs to reach Simon while Simon is at the top.
When they are inside of Golb they are once again on equal ground but this moment is ephemeral as once again one must climb the infinite set of stairs, now it is Simons turn as Betty has merged with Golb and is at the top of the Ziggurat while Simon desperately climbs to reach the top.
It's tragic that in their one moment of true happiness they are already separated by one simple step that would evolve into and invite set of stairs
To add, in GolBetty's reformed memory (episode 10) where he have joined her on the bus ride, she stays on equal ground after Simon spins her.
“i want you by my side” and then he puts her on the lower step 😞 everything about them makes me weep
@@jamariirobinson725 which is odd, considering she is now an extradimensional being of pure chaotic energy which can devour entire realities. And he's just a guy.
@@luckas221a I think that makes their current understanding of one another more beautiful cause she’s this immortal, inter dimensional being, yet still sees Simon as her equal
🥲Aww, the way Fiona cares about those two. Simons right. Betty would have liked them. Thanks to anyone who reads this.
I rewatched all of Adventur Time after finishing Fionna and Cake and was amazed at how much they kept continuity.
I literally did the exact same thing and was also surprised by it
It's amazing how well they kept continuity in the show proper too. It's clear they didn't really have a plan for one single story to tell, and that stuff was kind of added as they went, so the fact that they managed to keep everything as naturally progressing and consistent as it was was a testament to how good its writers were, and still are.
that’s the standard
@@ajmoment8091 tbh Adventure Time us FULL of retcons after season 4
Kinda? Adventure Time had a lot of retcons, in Fionna and Cake too
I do like that Fionna and Cake has actual mild language. Cause it helps me remember Simon is a man from the late 20th century. Hes one of us. And Fionna and Cake do it too cause their world is influenced by Simon's mind. Idk, to me it gives a sense of deeper realism in one of the craziest, most thorough worlds in recent fiction.
We’re on the 21st century 😅
I rewatched this earlier too and thought the same thing tbh. They think far ahead
I think it’s more that they’re good at expanding on little things they’ve already established
@@lucio-ohs8828 I still appreciate the consistency
Exactly! They took a small moment, and made it so much more! They didn’t have to do that, but they did, and that’s cool!
@raflamar4146 a second season is almost guaranteed because we need further explanation on Vampire world. What happened to Marceline and Bonnie? Did they die together? Why does Marceline still have all her powers if she didn't hunt any vampires? And how did the gumball guardians become caretakers in baby world? Is PB also a baby orrr.....
And we still never see any lich hands in other worlds, so we'll probably be seeing them eventually considering they were dropped all over the multiverse. Many liches were bested by Finn, but some of the world's we've seen didn't have any Finns mentioned.
@@diamondynamite
True, and there's also questions about whether Farmworld Finn is okay or not (though some people suspect he is). Personally, I'd be down for more of Winter King getting ressurected somehow and/or making more appearances, especially since he has a lot of potential to be a great antagonist (especially after OG Simon's character arc has finished).
But it's also possible we'd most likely get something from Shermy and Beth instead, depending on what the creators want.
This is why Continuity is important when telling an extensive story.
I love this show so much
That was so beautiful omg
damn the voice acting improved so much
Are projection Simon and A.I. Betty still together within the ice crown?
I hope so, they had a happier ending than the real couple......
Tragically the crown was reset to its wishing state while inside Golb, so all the data/memories of people inside the crown were deleted
nooo not gunther the dinosour :(
Gunther? No. ;_;
@@Lynnzeeee3yeah in the last episode of the adventure time show
@@InfinitelyMasked It's actually possible that data wasn't deleted; Golb reset everyone's physical states and abilities, but not their memories.
Usually I don't give videos a like but this deserves one
I find it strange that people seem to empathise with betty but not simon. Fionna herself "didn't you get on the bus?" Like he would simply be allowed to enter into a trip without buying space in advance, buing the passage on the bus and knowing the 3th party of reswearchers betty was going. An argument is "when you come back Ill be waiting for you" is what Simon should had said, but going with her make no sense realistically. not to mention, he had to be there for his own work, bills dont pay thenselves even in ooo i guess. unles that hairy magician of life touches a bill, and it get a job to pay for itself, but that's beyond my point.
“Damn, that’s romantic”
"So you jumped on the bus with her?"
This was the whole show
Raflamar, I'm proud of you.
Read Description
Dang u can really see the animation change
Wow❤
I guess it was funny we just never got to hear what made it so
I am sorry but i ll be one to have a bit of hot take:
I prefered ambiguous note , cause it was most funny and clever thing ever.
Now i am judjing if it is true.
(P.s. please exuse my grammar , english is my seccond languige , and grammar wasnt my focus of study.)
It's not true, love is blind and enhances our emotions of the things tied to our loved ones. I like the idea of show don't tell. Don't tell me about the note, show me the event! I like this a lot more. The original mention felt almost lazy.
What streaming service is this on?
hbo max
I kind of wish we didn't get to learn what the note said, I don't really think what was written gives justice to what simon said about it being the "funniest and smartest note he ever read"-- distant lands and fiona and cake are both really indulgent in a way i think the original show wasn't, they feel like bad fanfiction
Tbh how many notes could he have read in his life?
It was for him, he laughed
They cutted that part in this clip, and we barely know what was written
@@DeeperIntoTheUnknown "This character hasn't read very many notes" isn't a very good counter to saying something is poorly written
@@tallgnome3229 Simon and Betty's relationship is poorly written in many ways but the note isn't one of that
@@DeeperIntoTheUnknown the dialogue in fiona and cake is poorly written and this scene with the note is an example of that bad writing
Quesiton, how the fuck is that note "funny"
The video cut out the portion where Betty criticizes the book and insists the authors head was up his own ass.
Before this part of the video happened, Simon read in the letter what Betty thought about the book she picked up.
earlier in the note she says "this book was so dumb it felt like the author was writing it for an audience of one: his own ass"
