see i think a point that should be brought up is what you use on these maps really matters in how youd rate them like for example the allies 01 map being command and conquer it would go greatly with a command and conquer themed collection of skins guns and vehicles [red alert 1 themed collection to be exact]. and is it really fair to be like aye why play oil rig attack when X obviously super well made other map exists. and im pretty sure offshore scuffle isnt even a map editor map which is a whole major point on its own your comparing a map made with the ingame editor which mind you has heavily limited abilities to a map made in mod tools like if the map editor had all assets and was lot better sure the comparison would be alot more justified.
Hey, thanks for commenting! You’ve made a lot of great points. Regarding Allies 01, given the new context, I realize I would have chosen a different example map. I initially didn’t know the design was influenced by a specific source, and I included it in the video to highlight unconventional or zany designs. As for oil rig attack, my intention wasn’t to dismiss the map outright but to use it as a baseline to illustrate the gap between an average map and a top-tier one. I still think the map is well made, however the comparison was used to reset mine, and the viewer's expectations, on what a "hidden gem" (of course the conclusion being that chasing a "hidden gem" is rather pointless lol). I also agree that the ingame map editor is quite limiting, but it doesnt mean a map from it cant be great. plenty of my favorite maps come from the map editor. That said, unity maps will definetly have a higher ceiling, but will require a lot more effort and expertise. The map editor also has the advantage of access to ravenfield assets, which arent part of the rf unity tools pack. I'm aware that this video can come off as overly critical, which unfortunately I wasn't able to provide more nuance to the topic without dragging out the video. I think Low Poly Adventure was broken because of EA25 to EA26 engine transition, since I had subbed maps that suffered the same problem.
The map did release prior to EA26, and it would also explain the map's oddly high view-to-sub ratio. Seems quite likely to be the issue, great catch!
