Too bad Roma was from the same year, and got cinematography and best foreign language film and direction, all categories Cold War was nominated. I can't really complain but I wanted to see Cold War winning something.
Erick Garcia Roma was worse movie in all aspects. That was win because of politic.
@@zepter00 Roma would have won best picture if it wasn't from Netflix and a foreign movie, the movie was masterfully direct and shot, deserved the awards, and coulda have won more.

I knew from the first scene that this movie had amazing cinematography. This mirror scene changed it in my head from ‘amazing’ to ‘perfect.’

I just saw this film tonight and was so moved by it. The story, the cinematography and, of course, this haunting tune that really stays with you after you listen to it. Just spectacular. 'Cold War' is truly a masterpiece.

I've not yet seen this film. Despite its Polish setting, the song combined with the stark, smoky black-and-white imagery reminds me of French New Wave cinema. Thank you, The Beauty Of. You simply have me itching to check this film out!
Yes. As with Chopin, Paris is the Polish lodestar and asylum. Godard’s comical “e Boue le Soufflé” has been cited. But the tragi-comic black and white Truffaut duo of “Shoot the Piano Player” and “Jules e Jim” are even more germane, if one imagines these films’ comedy suppressed. The triangular power in Pawlikowski’s world is occupied by nearly anonymous political players and powers. This offset perspective creates the rare, intimidating power of isolation in the story of magnetism - nothing that these New Wave pioneers could have pulled off convincingly. “Cold War” is suffused by loss and regret. France, as a sort of Victor after the Second World War, was not victimised by the post-war settlement like Poland was. This masterpiece encapsulates a homeland’s tribute by the lovers sacrifice and struggles.

Any other year this would have won foreign film shame it came up against Roma. I love both films though the fact the director got a best director nom was a big deal and it was first time since 1966 that two black and white films got nominated for best cinematography
I like this kind of jazz a lot. Anybody who can point me in a direction to find more jazz with this kind-a sound..? Can be with polish influences, or not. Singing is ok but not 'needed'...
I just like to find Jazz in the same kind-a style...
