  • This 4-part documentary from 2008 follows the progress of 4 law students on the thorny path to become fully-fledged barristers, as well as giving a glimpse into the work of already established barristers.
Barristers are a legal profession with a long tradition in the judicial system of England and Wales. Until fairly recently most barristers were often not directly contacted by clients but by solicitors on behalf of clients. But as some things in the profession this is slowly changing.

So pleased for Kokoli she really deserves it, such an inspiration to aspiring barristers like myself.
I like Anna and I am pleased for her but I don't know that she wants it as much.

Very interesting. Very different from our [Canadian] system. There is no distinction here between barristers and solicitors. We have dedicated "Crown prosecutors" in criminal matters … much the same as the evolving CPS prosecutors in the series. A typical (typical, not rigid) career path in criminal matters is to act as a Crown for some years and then move over to the defense bar. It would be interesting to know if the UK system evolves the same way.
Rumpole must be spinning in his grave.

Not sure why the other assailants didn't go down as a party to the offender

Nice one bbc. I never thought for a second that this profession is difficult as this especially getting into it & after becoming a Professional lawyer, i used to think this guys just take cash from clientes & set up jugement within themselves & that all. I will start respecting Lawyers just the same i respect medicine personne. Kudos

In the U.S., all the 4 assailants would have been convicted of murder....and rightly so.

15 years old and is jailed for life??? Now who was defending them??? Omg he could've got off on suspended sentence at least

Leaving someone behind on the ground bleeding to death is brutal, ignorant, and unacceptable. The perpetrator does not appreciate a society that works hard at offering medical attention and maintaining emergency care infrastructure.
It would be irresponsible to suspend a sentence and uphold the destructive force. Admittedly, it is a harsh sentence. Everyone deserves to find the place and surrounding they are looking for - intentional actions of such major consequence speak for themselves.

anna needs to drop the faux posh accent. its so annoying. maybe the reason she was rejected so many times for pupilage is because the interviewers could see she's wasn't being herself.

she apparently went to a posh school on a scholarship so maybe the accents not false?

Anna is so unprofessional. She starts clapping her hands and squealing when she hears about her scholarship, is she going to do the same thing in front of clients when they have a successful case? Compared to Iqbal’s very calm reaction to his pupil age offers in an earlier video, Anna is very immature. Hardly barrister material.

@5:28 ~ Stuff like this always makes me wonder if the person who is found guilty was really innocent or not. Obviously anybody can act and yell out like they’re innocent but they’re not innocent, but guilty person is probably going to be more prepared to be found guilty than a truly innocent person.
