Love these videos! I took a solidworks course in college and then didn't use what I learned for a few years. These are great refresher tutorials without requiring me to spend money and time on college classes that I have already taken. Thanks! Best videos I've found.
Great tutorials Tim, thank you very much! For problem #3, I got around the "over defined" issue by running just the two 10mm circles through the Circular Sketch Pattern operation, and *then* trimming out the slots. So what I did was to draw the two concentric circles at 60mm and 80mm, so that they were tangent to the two 10mm holes on the 70mm construction circle. Then I did the radial copy to create two more sets of those two holes. Then I trimmed all the extra lines, and when I was done I still had two over defined flags...but both were on the first slot (per your video). I simply deleted each flag, and then all three slots were fully defined. Life is good.
I love your SolidWorks tutorial videos, they're a real help 'cause I'm in a rush to learn SolidWorks to use in my final year project - I've used AutoCAD before but SolidWorks has so many more handy functions, and I don't have time to go through the help guide in the program. Thanks for sharing! Good explanations, and the tips are extremely helpful.
First I want to thank you for your way of teaching, I think you are the best teacher out there, second, I wanna ask when are you gonna up new videos of Solidworks?
Thank you for this lesson. I am new to Silidworks, but I found why this extra dimension was added to drowing on 34:26. It is becouse on 26:33 of film you thicked "Dimension Radius" box Robert
hi sir did you make a template , each time you draw a circle you get the arrow header to mark the circle , I have to go to dimension -> Leader -> custom text to get the arrow leader.
thnx for all the tips. BTW at 27 minutes when you cannot lock the central rotation point to the origin...Just select the origin in the feature tree with control and add the rotation center point. You can then lock it like you intended too.
Greetings sir, i want to ask you about at around 34:00 minutes of ur vdeo. How did you know what to do or what to delete when you get ur sketch overdefined? When I did this model,I delete the red equation and the result is it got 2 under defined.
at the start of the 2nd sketch, I put the 2 construction lines across the origin just as you did, but mind does not turn black after I add the dim, but yours does. I also do not have the green relations visible. Am I missing something or do you think I have a setting that is not right ?
Handy how you taught us to start with two center lines at 0,0,0. I start with two infinite lines in autocad but it doesn't seem to need to be at 0,0,0. I think because you can move your world to that center point in autocad by dragging it and using points to locate the dimensions. I've been struggling with this a little but now it makes more sense, you start at zero where we were taught, way back from version R12, location doesn't matter. Solidworks looks to be a very handy program. If I could get them to let me have a student version without actually being a student I'd be able to teach myself in short order. In the mean time, thank you.
The reason it's adding the radius dimensions, is because you have the "Dimension radius" feature box checked, like at 46:32 in the video. You did this earlier in the video, to demonstrate something...for a reason I don't understand. I think you were just checking boxes, lol. Anyway, that feature isn't checked by default, for good reason--as it seems to result in over-defined sketches much of the time.
Loving the videos so far. One minor issue I had is that there is sometimes no explanation for why NOT to use a particular option. In the first video when talking about setting dimensions he emphasizes, "always go line to line" rather than point to point, etc and in this second video he tells us not to use the "Fix relation" option as it can be a bad habit. I am guessing those options may cause issues if you go back and revise dimensions or other aspects of the sketch? Being new to this I appreciate the warnings but would like to know the reasoning behind them as well. If Tim or anyone else can add any insight that would be great.
you are a good teaching I knew nothing about SW until i started listening to your lecture. I have not completed Lesson 1 and 2 i am on my way to lesson 3. Can you tell me where you get your drawings from so i can have it in from of me when doing the exercises?
hello I know it is very late thank you for the ease you made. Iam new to this and i find it a great software to learn! but I need your advice: is there any future for the solidworks people?
I realize this video is a over 2 years old, if your still available to answer, what version of SW is this your using here ? And also are there any favorite forums you can recommend. I'm a beginner of course. Thank you.
I have a quick question. you show the number of the array next to the array. When I do a circular array, the number of the array doesn't show up. How do I change that so I can see the number of the array? So I can easily change the number?
